You might ask, why? Answer is simple. FATHERLY!HICTOOTH AAAAAAAA. My inspirations for that fic. This fic was written just because I couldn't find any modern AU of that. My thoughts on how would that look. Well, have fun with that then.

He still stood, stunned. Did he hear the clear for sure? Has he finally gone insane? There was no view of the baby in here at all! No mother with a stroller around, even so, what mother would go that mad to take a child in such a place! When yet again, the screams were getting louder, he finally moved forward. He didn't look now calm, he wasn't calm. All of that situation was at last odd for him. Maybe, someone made jokes, and at any moment now they will just jump onto him without any hesitation. He wasn't sure what to think anymore. As he went forward, he passed trash cans, just to look just behind them, finding a little, really little box, already wet from the rain. It seemed that screams were coming right from there. He tightened his teeth, even lightly thought that gave him shivers.

Getting himself together, he sat up just before the box, and let his umbrella pass by him to hit the ground, not caring now about raindrops rushing his back. He opened it, and his eyes went wide, and his mouth opened uncontrollably. Baby. Infant exactly. Tiny infant. Tiny boy. He had never seen such a fragile child. It was crying and was only wrapped in thin material. His eyes were watery, the poor boy was crying probably all long night. Even so, for an infant, he had some hair, brown hair, yet his eyes remained black. There were freckles all around his whole little body. He struggled around, probably for pain.

At first, he was frozen. It was the most devastating and vicious thing he had ever seen! How old he even was?! Someone bring him straight from a hospital here?! Toothless panicked, he wanted help, but how could he? He never had contact with a child, nonetheless such small. When again screams hurt his ears, he finally calmed, after all, he should call an ambulance. He stayed in such terrible rain, he might catch hypothermia. When he choose a number, he get it onto the speaker and turned to a little boy. He pulled his hands to him, but flinched in the last moment, like the little boy before he was made of fire. Or like he was scared he would hurt him.

911, what's your emergency?

"I-I have here little boy, infant I think. He was left onto one of the streets." Toothless explained the whole situation, his shaky voice surprising him. Since when he is shaky? "There is, terrible rain, he was left in a box. He might have caught something bad."

Calm down, I'm sure everything is going to be okay.

Female alike women called him from the speaker. Her words gave him confidence, yet he still couldn't calm his now racing heart.

Address, please. I will call someone for you.

"I-it's um, Bork's street. I'm in something like a-a fourth alley while driving it from the south."

Okay, I'm called an ambulance. What is your name?

"T-Tobias Night."

Tobias, you have to listen to me, okay? With your help, we are for sure going to save a little boy. Listen to me.

"Alright, what do I have to do." He sobbed, looking before him, a boy still cried, but his eyes met with something just next to him. He slowly took something, a document alike. "Miss, I found something interesting, it's a birth certificate."

What's saying?

"His name is Henry Hiccup, no surname. He was born on 29 February." One mouth. That poor child has one mouth. What monster would leave the child in such a situation?!

I will search for him in the documentation, but right now, we still have many more important things to do. Is there cold out there?

"Y-yes, there is."

I need you to check if he is cold.

"R-right." He pulled one of his hands towards the boy. He touched his forehead, my gods he is cold as ice. By the meeting of their skin, the boy calmed a bit, probably wanting him to stay like that. He didn't take his hand away, maybe he needed that. He stocked a little child's forehead with his thumb, as a way of calming him.

What's going on out there? Okay?

"He is really cold. Like really freezing."

You have to share his body temperature, are you able to hold him?

"I-I n-never held a baby. I don't know how to do that!"

We're going to do that slowly. First, take one of your palms and place it under his head.

The first thing he did, was take off his jacked, placing it away. It might be useful later. He then as pleased, was done. His hand was now touching little hairs on his neck. "N-now what?"

You have to place another one just underneath his back, somewhere close to his legs. Then, you might take him closer to you, but remember to keep one of your arms under his spine, it's really important.

He tightened his teeth and eyes in fright, but as said he was done. He took the little boy into the air, that way said the boy was now laying close to his chest. His heart was beating loudly, he breathed deeply. The little child seemed to snuggle into his chest, as close to him as possible. He helped him do so, underneath his eyelids were little drops of tears already. When he was already located, both boys now looked at each other, Tobias smiled at him weakly, but even so, the infant stayed teary. Was he afraid? Then, he yet again started crying. Instinctively, Tobias started rocking him.

Is something wrong?

"I-I don't know. I'm holding him already, but I think he might be still frightened."

I think the little one is still cold, do you have anything to keep him warm?

"I-I have jacked, b-but I don't have a free hand."

You said he is a little one, didn't you? Are you able to take him with one arm?

"I-I might give it a try, I'm just... maybe he isn't cold, maybe he is frightened? Afraid? Is he afraid of me?"

I'm sure it isn't that Tobias. I know you're scared, but he is sensing your fright and he's getting frightened as well. You need to calm down, for him. Place him onto one of your arms, it's your choice, but a better one would be a stronger one. With your palm held onto one of his legs, his spine has to be straight and look out of his head.

He breathed loudly and looked at the little boy hidden now in his chest, crying at top of his lungs. He must help him, there isn't another option. He would never forgive himself if he wouldn't now do it. He carefully positioned his arms in that way, the little boy now fit into his one arm. Luckily for both, he was fitting almost perfectly. It was rather strange for Tobias, how his whole arm was enough for his little body, yet he still had part free. He swiftly took his jacked, which was placed nearby, placing it delicately onto the boy. He looked up, surprised by this new warmness. His screams calmed a little. "N-now what?"

Tobias, I'm sorry, but there is not much I can do anymore. The ambulance is on its way, I will instruct you on the last things you have to do.

"O-okay."

You need to keep him warm, he had to calm down, he might become tired and most importantly he can't fall asleep. He might never wake up anymore. Did you understand?

"I-I think so. I will try."

Alright, good luck Tobias.

There was the sound of ended conversation. They were left all alone with only two of them. The little boy in his head was still stressing out, he had to calm him somehow. "H-hey, Henry... Henry, I-I'm here." He closer his body to him, trying to force Henry into listening. It didn't do its work. "Henry, Henry, Henry Hiccup?" Immediately after the last of the words, he started at him, like it was the magic word. "Hiccup, alright Hiccup. If it's how you want to be called. Alright..." Both started now, probably both waiting for the next thing the teenager is going to do.

He started crying uncomfortably, and Tobias panicked. "No! No! It's alright! It's okay Hiccup, it's okay." He started rocking him, it made something of its work, but not enough. Maybe, he is still cold? He placed his cheek against his forehead, in a way of strange closure. Hiccup was surprised by that, even so, he was oddly calm. Did he, like that? With his second hand, he embraced little body, even more, creating a hug alike. "Sh~ Sh~ it's alright." Tobias tried to talk to him, with the softest voice he could. "It's okay, I'm here, little one. It's okay, buddy. It's okay." Hiccup now calmed and breathed calmly against his chest as well as against his face. Tobias melted at the view of a little boy, snuggling into him. He was happy that for that moment, he trusted him.

Then, Tobias panicked, and Hiccup was closing his eyes. "No! No! You can't go to sleep buddy!" He likely breaks away from him, now looking at him from up. Hiccup was startled, sobbing was coming from him, yet again started crying. Great Tobias, great. You're fucking idiot! He cursed to himself in his mind. He had to think something through fast! He yet again rocked, but this time it wasn't working. Even so, he knew Hiccup was already warm, now he was just scared. It broke his heart to see him in such distress. Move that stupid brain of yours! Maybe, he needs a distraction from sleep!

Tobias looked around, searching for anything. Backpack. Maybe, there would be something useful. He slowly let Hiccup into his old place, just so he could swiftly get it from his back. Unfortunately, when he did so, Hiccup screamed, really loudly. Like, Tobias just hit him or something. He yet again panicked, and looked terrified at the distressed little body. "Hiccup! It's okay! I'm here!" Even so for his words, yelling didn't get quieter. Free from the heaviness of his back, immediately he yet again took Hiccup into his arms. He stopped crying, now sobbing softly, face now turned to Tobias's chest. Did he just...missed me? Did he want me? No, that's impossible, he just gets cold again, you're fucking damn idiot.

With both of his arms, he embraced him tightly, but not too tightly! Their foreheads were now touching, Hiccup calmed a bit but still had watery eyes. "Sh~ Sh~ it's okay, buddy. It's okay. I know you're scared, but please, calm down, buddy. Calm." He whispered to him, close to his ear. It was amazing how it looked like he understood. He glanced at Tobias, blinking at him. He was getting tired. On the difference of last his try, he decided to change his way. He looked into a backpack, searching for anything interesting for the infant. Books, notes, pens. Great, I might write him an essay. His eyes focused on something at the bottom of a said backpack. Plushie. Don't get him wrong, he got it as a present from Meatlug. She has always been gold-hearted, she sews for every one of their hockey team 'Dragons'. It's supposed to be them, in their dragon form, or something like that. Back then, he would roll his eyes at it, but now it was like a blessing.

When he was about to grab it, he froze. What if Hiccup would become afraid of plushie? It was black, and it was dragon-like, he might frighten. But then, had he another option? Hiccup was almost asleep in his arms! He breathed loudly, took the toy, and showed it to Hiccup's little body. "Hiccup~ look! A toy! A dragon!" He smiled nervously, showing a soft plushie before him. It was amazing how Hiccup's tiny body was smaller than said toy. Plushie itself was a black dragon, it had big wings and a long tail ended with tail fins, one of them was red. Only a few people knew why. It was aerodynamic alike, it had big, green eyes. Hiccup just stared at it, he wasn't scared, he wasn't happy, just started, fascinated. "You like it?"

Hiccup follow it with his sight, when Toothless placed its muzzle onto his stomach, he immediately lowered his eyes. There was a moment when Hiccup tried to take his hands in its direction, but they were into the material surrounding him. Tobias giggled a little at the view of sweet little Hiccup, trying to play with his new toy. A strange feeling came at him, this little boy was such innocent. Whoever dared to get such danger at him, he surely would want to have with them 2 minutes of talk. It would be indeed fast death.

Toothless woke up from thoughts at the sound of a siren. Ambulance. He immediately stood up, still keeping the little toy by Hiccup in a way to calm him in an emergency. He picked up his backpack at one of his shoulders, and slowly rushed towards the entrance of the alley. There was already stopping by street the emergency car. From it, one of the paramedics came forward to him. "It's alright now. I will take him from here." The man's voice drummed in his ears, as said male pulled his arms towards him, showing him to hand him a little bundle in his arms.

At first, Tobias hesitated. Will he ever see that boy ever again? He would at least want to know if everything is going to be okay! Then, he was saddened. He has to go, he still needed medic help. He carefully pulled Hiccup into the arms of the other male. He shivered at the thought it was the last time he see him. Then, there was a cry. Hiccup immediately screamed at top of his lungs, like they were now cutting his skin. The paramedic started rocking him, but the boy remained distressed. He didn't know why he did that, but Tobias went forward. He wasn't scared of paramedic reaction, he just from instinct placed a thumb over Hiccup's forehead, stroking it peacefully. Hiccup immediately stopped, and looked in the direction of Tobias, which now smiled brightly. He indeed wanted him! The paramedic glanced at him. "I don't mind disturbing you anymore sir, but do you mind driving with us toward the hospital? By there you'll be all free."

Tobias looked yet again at the little boy in the paramedic's arms. His eyes almost begging him into going, he couldn't disagree." Of course." He pulled his arms and in a mere second yet again held little bungle. Hiccup immediately looked at him, staring alike. Tobias bend over him. "Sh~ buddy. It's going to be okay. I'm here." With that Tobias rushed to the ambulance, and sat by, holding Hiccup close to himself. The feeling of the little heartbeat by his brings a smile to his face. I wish I could hold him like that forever.

The ride went almost peacefully, there were only a few little incidents. When Hiccup grew tired of the ride, he started crying, just to again look at offered plushie by Tobias. When Hiccup was checked by medics, he got distressed, just to be calmed by Tobias's comforting presence. When Hiccup started closing his eyes, Tobias panicked, but fortunately, doctors informed him that his body heat was safe now, and he could finally sleep in peace. He looked down at the little sleeping boy in his arms, his heart screaming with happiness. He finally let himself let out a breath of relief like he was holding his breath almost the whole time.

Already by the hospital, while going out, a nurse ran to him. She showed him a hospital bassinet and steered him into placing Hiccup in it. He breathed loudly, but he did as told. Just then, a nurse with Hiccup immediately rushed towards the hospital. Tobias didn't even hesitate, he followed. Both of them went inside, closing the doors after them. He stared at them, motionlessly. What he was even doing here? There is nothing he can do now? Even so, he shouldn't be here! Hiccup isn't his brother or something, he found him on street! There wasn't any chance for him to see him again like he was a stranger!

Although that, the thought of leaving now hurt his heart. He wanted to know, what was going to happen next. He wanted to know if the boy was still sleeping peacefully. He wanted to know if the boy was still breathing calmly. He wanted to be close. Behind him, he noticed a bench, probably a place for those waiting for families. He couldn't help himself, he sat by it, his eyes still staring uncomfortably at these doors. He couldn't leave now, he couldn't. He cared.

A few hours later, at about midnight, he still sat in the same place, not daring to go away. It was like he knew, if he left now, he would never see Hiccup again. His eyes were shutting uncomfortably, tired already. His head was dangerously getting lower and lower, but he still stayed with a mission. He wouldn't let him, not now. That was when someone opened these doors. From room get out, a woman with ginger hair, made into a bun and green bright eyes, had a white cloak suggesting that he was one of the doctors there. She exactly left the room, at which he was staring. With Hiccup in it. At first, he just started, not knowing what to do about that knowledge. A woman noticing it came to him. "Good midnight sir. Are you waiting for someone?" She asked with a calm and soft voice. Tobias opened his mouth and shut it immediately. He couldn't say he was waiting for Hiccup. It was all over for him, he should have gone home by now already. "I guess you must be then Tobias Night?" He looked up at her, not hiding his eyebags. She pulled her arm to him. "Amaya Maidenwing, but everyone just calls me Atali. For now, I'm a doctor taking care of Henry." Toothless immediately stood up, almost tripping himself. He shook her arm tightly.

"I'm sorry for bothering you. I just wanted to know if everything is alright."

"That nothing to be ashamed of mister Tobias. I'm happy someone cares for such a fragile boy."

"Is he alright?"

"I assure you, little Henry is just fine. Poor boy must now get some sleep, after such a terrible experience." Toothless looked down, even thought of what just happened, about what he got through, made him sick. "I think you should as well get some, don't you?"

"Just a few minutes more, please." He looked at her, begging alike, Atali just sighed and showed him to sit down. When he did so, she sat just by him.

"Terrible fate came at that boy. Nobody deserved such a thing as abandoning. Thinking, now he's going to become an orphan." At those words, Tobias's heart stopped beating. He felt like familiar darkness surrounding him. Orphan? That little, innocent... becoming an orphan? He breathed loudly, over-ventilating himself. "Is something wrong?"

"Well, I-I'm me an orphan."

"Then, you probably know how hard it's going to be for him. He would have to live through something, you went through years ago. Am I not right?" He didn't answer, Atali get that as acceptance, but the truth was Tobias was disagreeing with her.

While living in the orphanage, hope gave him the feeling that his parents trade their life, so he was able to live himself. Hiccup didn't have that luck. Being there would be for him much worse. His parents dumped him. For the rest of his life, he would live with feelings of weakness, uselessness, and worthlessness. He wouldn't imagine, what the future was about to start for that little buddy. He didn't deserve it, nobody would! "Isn't their mobility of finding them? I mean, his parents?"

"Even if the police would found them, Henry would still become an orphan. There is no way, the law would let them continue being parents."

"But then, there might be relatives, his family. Nobody would take him under their care?"

"It's just wondering. We can't be now sure of everything. Hiccup would stay in the hospital for about a week, then I would be forced to transfer him to the orphanage. I'm sorry, but there isn't much I could do."

Tobias looked at the ground, his thought was yelling at him. There is nothing, which might be done. Anything?! His heart was inching with pain, his eyes went towards these doors. Inside that room was tiny, poor Hiccup, which he was sure had never done anything wrong in his life. Only monsters would treat their child like that. You had to have no heart to even think about something like that!

"Police already is in case? Did they search for guilty for all of that?"

"Yes, they do. They already tried to get some information from us, but I immediately chase them off. There is nothing they would find interesting here. You shouldn't be bothered about that as well, they already get all of the information that they would take from you. Place, time, situation."

"What about a certificate? I passed it in an ambulance."

"Certificate of birth was passed to them already." Tobias nodded at all of that information, not hiding his unconfidently and uncomfortable about leaving. "He will be alright. You're free to go home."

"I'm not so sure about that." Seeing the doctor's questioning face, he explained saddened. "It's just... I got close to Henry. I'm just frightened, it would be the last time I'm able to see him."

"You're surely really caring for him, aren't you?"

Tobias needed time to think it through. At first, the word caring in his ear felt, strange. It felt that it didn't suit him at all. But, there he was, standing in front of the door, waiting all night, just to see the little infant he met about a few hours earlier. Then, he couldn't just forget about him. He smiled to himself. "I am, probably."

Atali smiled at him, turned away, and took something from hers pocked, a card alike. "Take it. When you will came here tomorrow, just show that at the register. It's permission for the meeting. They will lead you towards Henry." Tobias took it and smiled brightly as the woman showed kindness and sympathy towards him, which was rather unusual for him. "See you tomorrow." Atali was about to leave. She stood up and went forward.

"Just, one more thing." Atali stopped, and turned to him, waiting for his words. "He might find himself an adoption parent, right?"

Atali sighed saddened. "Problem is, Henry is in really bad shape now. Not only he was abounded, but for his age, he looks really small. We are guessing, he was an early born. Such a situation leads to many problems, he might be vulnerable to much of sicknesses. Worst of these all was something which we just find out not such long ago." Tobias looked at her questioning, already frighten for her next words. "He was born without part of his leg. Left nonetheless. From his knee, there is nothing. I think you know from experience that such kids have it much worse than others." You don't even know how much. Tobias nodded sadly, Atali came closer, patting him on the shoulder. "The future isn't said, mister Night. Much of things might change. For now, I recommend you go to your own house and get some needed sleep. We all would be tired after such mental pain." Tobias just nodded, seeing it, Atali left him all alone.

Tobias should have felt calm now, the truth was he wasn't at all. Even the thought of seeing him tomorrow didn't help. He eventually, lead his way toward the exit of the hospital. He tried to smile weakly, reminding himself of one thing. He would see him tomorrow. He will see him tomorrow.

My little vacation just ended, and from tomorrow there wouldn't be any of the 'everyday chapters' just a little information for those who's reading my ships recently. (I got such fans, which I love) thank you for reading!
