Chapter EIGHT - Not listening to what each other was saying
Amanda pulled into her driveway and got out of the car. She knew that the boys would still be in school but she wondered where her mother was. Dotty didn't say anything to her about going anywhere. Amanda shrugged and opened the side door and went into the kitchen. Sitting on the counter was another bouquet of flowers, the familiar box and another letter. Amanda figured since she was home she would get herself a snack. She went to the fridge to get the milk out and she noticed something out the window above the sink. She smirked to herself and pretended not to notice her husband watching her through his usual spot, the kitchen window. She went about her work of making a sandwich and pouring a glass of milk. She went over to the couch and took the letter and box with her. She opened the box first and inside were two beautiful little charms, one with "BEST MOM" on it and the other was a tiny window. She giggled as she took a bite of her sandwich and opened the letter. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Lee watching her as she read the letter. She smiled to herself and pretended not to notice him.
My Amanda,
You are such a great mom! Phillip and Jamie are so lucky to have you! I think my mother would have been just like you…and Dotty. You are always there for the boys. For the past four years, through your kitchen window, I was able to get a glimpse at what I thought my mother would have been like. If we are lucky to have one of our own ( I know a conversation for another time ) but there isn't anyone else in the world that I would want as my child's mother. I love you Mrs. Stetson. I hope you are having a wonderful day.
Your next two stops have to deal with places where our relationship took a huge turn. With the first one, I did something that I swore I never would do…and you instantly forgave me. The absolute trust you had in me is still something that I may never fully understand. But I guess I trust you the same way. This is why I feel we are soul mates and it was fate that brought us together at the train station. The second place was where you told me that life turned out pretty great and I said that it wasn't good enough for you. I was honestly afraid I may have lost you then. I don't think I ever told you that. Joe came home and seeing you with him during that case was hard. Seeing your face as you were dancing with him, but looking at me, I knew that we had a future. We just weren't sure of what it was just yet. Thank you for always being there for me, Amanda. I will spend the rest of our lives showing you how much I treasure you. I love you so much! See you soon!
Lee
Amanda wiped the happy tears from her face and sighed. She stood up and walked over to the kitchen window. She knew that Lee was hiding underneath it like he had done so many times. She opened the window as if she was getting some fresh air. She could see him trying to duck down lower so he wouldn't be noticed. She stifled a giggle and sighed. She said loud enough for him to hear her "I love you very much, Lee Stetson. More than I can possibly say. Thank you for today." She rinsed off her dishes, grabbed her things and went out the front door leaving Lee underneath the window beaming.
