Ziva arrived at the embassy to find her sister sitting with another Mossad officer. She didn't know his name. He wasn't younger. He looked familiar, like she had seen him in passing before, but she just didn't know his name.
Ziva didn't pay too much attention to him, because her main focus was on her sister.
Liya didn't look like she has been beaten up or tortured. She had a small bullet graze on her arm, which looked worse than it actually was.
"I'm fine, Z." Liya assured her concerned looking sister, "Come give me a hug."
Ziva gladly embrace her sister in a hug, "I have missed you."
Liya hugged Ziva back, "Me too. So how's that team been treating you?"
"Good." The younger sister replied, "Now what happened because I know you did not kill that marine."
Liya shook her head, "No. He was dead when I got there. But somebody shot at me."
Ziva gave a nod, "Okay. Why are you back with Mossad? What happened with your team?"
"Ian Doyle."
Ziva's eyes widened, "Your Interpol assignment? He is back?"
"He tried to kill me. Almost did, and he's still on the loose. I'm supposed to be in Paris, but I decided to return to my old life as Liya David." Liya explained
"Why? We were both out of Mossad. Why return to it?" Her eyes widened, "Is Declan okay?"
Liya shrugged, "It's easy. It's familiar, and it's safe. Declan's fine. He's safe. Witness protection just isn't for me. You know I don't do well sitting on my hands."
"Mhm….Abby knows about your blood being at the crime scene. What am I supposed to tell my boss about you?"
"Tell the truth." Liya told her sister, "I can handle myself."
Ziva hugged Liya one last time, "I love you, Li."
"I love you too, Z."
Meanwhile back at NCIS headquarters, Abby was staring at the blood results on her computer screen. She knew that she had to tell Gibbs, but she didn't want to betray Ziva. Why hadn't Ziva told them about her sister? They knew about Ari and Tali. Why not this mystery sister?
An hour passed by before Abby called Gibbs to her lab. He was heading to the elevator to go down to Abby's lab. The elevator doors opened to reveal Ziva.
"Oh Gibbs, just the person I needed to talk to."
"Well I was about to go to Abby's lab. Can it wait?"
Ziva took a breath, "No. Because it is about what Abby is going to tell you, and it should come from me."
"Okay. Whatcha got for me, Ziva?"
"Abby caught me before I left. I did not have a lead, but I needed to talk to someone first." Ziva explained, "The blood found at the crime scene belongs to Liya David. She is my sister, Gibbs."
Jethro nodded, "Okay. Where is she? I'll need to question her."
"She is at the Israeli embassy. I already spoke with her, but I know her, Gibbs. She did not kill that marine."
Ziva relayed the information that she had gotten from Liya to Gibbs.
Studying his face, she could tell that he was a little disappointed in her about the fact that she had lied to him, and kept something from him. He wasn't mad though. He seemed like he understood.
"I am sorry that I did not tell you, Gibbs."
"Why keep your sister a secret?"
Ziva shrugged as she let out a breath, "I do not know, but it was not my intention to keep her a secret."
Jethro nodded, then stepped into the elevator.
Ziva headed to her desk. Tony wasn't there, but Timothy was.
"Hello McGee, where is Tony?" She asked as she sat down.
"Hey Ziva." Timothy greeted, "I don't know where Tony is. He hasn't come in yet."
Ziva furrowed her eyebrows as she stared at Tony's empty desk, but tried not look for too long. She turned her attention to her computer as she gave a sigh. She needed answers. Why was her sister's in DC? What was her Mossad mission? How does the Mossad mission relate to the dead marine? And why did someone shoot at her sister at the crime scene?
As glad as Ziva was that she left Mossad for NCIS and became an American citizen, it was in this moment that she wished she was privy to information on Mossad mission. Or at least just this particular one since it led to her sister.
Liya was almost like a second mother to Ziva. She always took care of and protected her as much as she could while they were growing up. Now Ziva wanted to return the favor. After everything that Liya had done for her, Ziva felt like she owed her sister. Like it was her turn to protect Liya. Not that Liya needed protecting. She was innocent. She hadn't done anything wrong, and she definitely didn't kill that marine.
"So what do we know about that marine?" Ziva finally spoke
"Well Clarence Melton was twenty-four years old. He was the sole caregiver to his eight year old niece." Timothy started, "He was a loving uncle, a dedicated marine and…hmm."
Ziva glanced up, looking over at her colleague, "What is it, McGee?"
"It says he consulted with the FBI's behavioral analysis unit."
Ziva went silent.
"What would profilers want with a marine?" They heard their boss ask as he was strolling back into the room.
Timothy shook his head, "Don't know, boss. Its redacted."
"Find out." Jethro ordered
"Call the FBI and ask for Aaron Hotchner." Ziva added
Jethro gave his youngest agent a well-meaning look as he walked over to her desk, "Ziva, what do you know?"
"Nothing. Just that Hotch is BAU's unit chief. He was my sister's boss."
"Was?"
She nodded, "Yeah. Liya is supposed to be in witness protection. She was declared dead three months ago."
"Declared?" Jethro questioned
"She is not dead."
In the background, Timothy was heard talking on the phone. He was speaking with Aaron Hotchner, but wasn't getting anywhere.
"Um…boss, Agent Hotchner is telling me that Captain Melton's role with his unit is classified."
Jethro gave Ziva the classic Gibbs' stare.
Ziva took the hint as she stood up from her desk, strolling over to Timothy's desk as she made a motion for the phone.
Timothy shrugged as he gave Ziva the phone, mumbling, "Be my guest."
"Hello Aaron."
"Ziva? You're with NCIS?" The agent questioned
She hummed, "Yes. Aaron, we need to know about Captain Melton's involvement with your unit, if it has anything to do with his death, and how my sister is involved."
"Your sister?"
She heard confusion in his voice.
"Yes. We found her blood at the crime scene."
"What is she doing in DC?" Aaron asked, still confused
"I do not know." Ziva replied, "I do not know what her mission is or what she is involved in, only that it got her shot at."
She heard a gasp from Aaron as he asked if Liya was alright.
Ziva assured him that she was, and at the moment they didn't suspect any involvement from Ian Doyle.
