After getting the phone call and then jumping out of the car, Liya took shelter in an abandoned warehouse before making a call of her own.
"Okay. The hen is in place. She's laid her eggs and the sky is beautiful." She said, speaking in code.
Moments later, a guy came strolling in. He was pulling two large rolling suitcases behind him.
"Is that the cargo?" Liya asked
He nodded, "Yes. Where are my eggs?"
Liya tossed over a couple bags, "Now. My cargo."
He laid the suitcases on their backs and slid them over to Liya. She grabbed them, unzipping both of them simultaneously, shocked by what she found inside.
She pulled her knife as she fumed, angrily, "This is not what we agreed to."
"Relax." He encouraged, "All in due time."
Liya shook her head, "No. What is this? Where is my cargo?"
"That is what you were looking for." He smirked, "Or should I say who you were looking for."
Liya looked horrified, eyes widening, "No. Don't tell me."
He just smiled as he took his 'eggs' and strolled towards the door out of the warehouse, going back the way he came.
Liya charged at him with the knife, stabbing him in the back.
When he fell to the ground, she grabbed his wallet out of his pocket, searching for his ID. Unfortunately, he had only cash in his wallet. Nothing that gave her any clue as to his actual identity.
Turning back to the suitcases, Liya just stared at the chopped up body parts. She blinked, giving them a closer examination, but they gave her nothing. The pieces were too small to conclude anything. She did however examine the eyes, which clearly told her that this was not Shula. These eyes were brown. Shula has really pretty green hazel eyes, which means that Shula is most likely still alive and finding her is still Liya's primary directive.
There was not much else for her to do about this body though. She called Ziva before placing the phone on top of one of the suitcases, leaving the phone to ring as she left the scene.
By the time that Jethro and Timothy arrived at the warehouse, Liya was long gone. She had left no trace and no clues about where she had gone.
Jethro was getting more and more frustrated by the minute. Bodies were dropping and he was still no closer to understanding what this all was truly about or why an eight year old girl seemed to be at the center of it.
Ziva and Anthony were back at the Navy Yard. Obviously Ziva was still benched because of her sister, but now so was Anthony. Ziva was benched for the familial relationship, while Anthony was benched because he had lost Liya.
"Your sister is so much like you." Tony told Ziva
"Actually, I am like her. She is older." Ziva countered
Tony glared at her, "You know what I mean."
"So what happened?"
Tony shrugged, "She got a phone call. She was angry at the person on the other line. She hung up and then at the red light, just got out of the car and ran in the other direction."
"She must have had a lead." Ziva said
"She could have told me."
Ziva shook her head, "Like you said, I used to be like her. She doesn't trust anyone. Liya had a very chaotic childhood. She spent a lot of time with us in Tel Aviv, but she also moved around a lot with her mother."
Tony gave a nod, "Right. Elizabeth Prentiss. She's a diplomat."
"Yeah." Ziva agreed, "But Liya also took Tali's death really hard. Harder than I did. Never knew why, but Liya and Tali were always really close. They had an inseparable bond."
"Well, Liya's the oldest, right?"
Ziva shook her head, "No. Ari was. But Liya was the oldest girl. She was Abba's greatest soldier. He was really hard on her. He trained her pretty hard, because he trained her to be the best. And being the best, means not trusting anyone."
- 1991 -
9 year old Ziva and 5 year old Tali are sitting on two chairs at a table that is by the front door. They are having a tea party when 21 year old Liya David comes stumbling in the front door. Both little girls look over to see their big sister beaten and battered, looking like she had come close to dying within an inch of her life.
"LiLi?" Tali spoke softly, getting up and moving over to cuddle up to Ziva's side. She loves her oldest sister, but the sight of Liya bruised and bloodied could be a little scary to a small child.
Immediately, Rivka David rushes over from the kitchen to bring aid to her step-daughter.
"Are you okay?" She asks Liya, looking over the young woman, checking for her injuries and any possible broken bones.
Liya is too hurt to answer. She just collapses into her step-mother's arms, holding onto Rivka, trying to keep herself upright.
Eli David strolls into the front foyer room. He does not look pleased. Liya can tell from the glaze in her father's eyes that if it wasn't for her step-mother, he would slap her across the face. And she would deserve it. She failed him.
Rivka holds her step-daughter close as she turns to face her husband, knowing very well what the look in his eyes means.
"Don't even think about, Eli." Rivka says, "Look at our daughter. The mission is not more important than her well-being, and it's obvious that she tried her hardest. She always does. Just to please you."
Eli opens his mouth to say something, but Rivka just walks past him, holding up Liya as she takes her to see the home nurse.
"Ziva! Tali!" Rivka calls to her young daughters, "Go to your rooms and pack a bag. I'm gonna get Liya stitched up and then we're gonna leave for a while."
"What about Abba?" Ziva wonders
Rivka pauses for a moment, stopping in her tracks, passing Liya off to the nurse, "It's just a girls trip."
