"C'mon Midoriya! Put your legs into it!"
Izuku was currently struggling to carry an old washing machine to the truck. The truck bed was already halfway through being filled since the morning. It was in the evening when classes ended for Izuku so as part of his schedule he headed straight for Dagobah Beach.
"Arghhhh!" Izuku screamed out.
He launched the washing machine with all his might upward to the truck bed. His strength was used up as he felt his entire body contract his muscles as he threw.
*Crash!*
The washing machine drops with the loud and unmistakable sound of failure. Izuku looks on with horror as Toshinori watches closely at the attempt.
He missed it by a few inches, Izuku groaned and layed on the ground, tired after his failed throw. It chipped the asphalt below as Izuku closed his eyes and breathed heavily.
Toshinori approaches the exhausted Izuku on the ground and calls out to him. "Midoriya, you've improved how much you can send out at a time."
Izuku lazily opened his eyes and started to stand back up. "But All Might, I barely placed the last one down on the truck bed."
All Might chuckled. "Don't keep thinking like that. Progress is still progress, you at least got it closer to the truck this time."
"Thank you, All Might."
All Might deflated into Toshinori and opened the door to the small rented-out pickup truck. He turned on the engines and faced Izuku out the window.
"I'll drive this over to the disposal, rest up or help out young Kamisato while you wait for me."
Izuku bolted upward after hearing about working with Ayaka's quirk. He was always excited to see cool Quirks and Ayaka's was on top of his list.
Izuku started to mutter out loud while making his way down to where Ayaka was. "Unlike many of the previous generations of ice-related quirks, Kamisato's is really unique. It doesn't affect the temperature of the user at all, ignoring the negatives of an ice quirk. So what she needs is just to keep practicing, especially that part of hers where she can form into ice itself!"
He started to out everything he had on his mental map. After every moment he was finished with training, he headed to Ayaka to see her concentrating and practicing her Quirk. Not just that but helping Izuku out by slicing off larger furniture he couldn't carry.
'I can't wait to see how much she improved.'
Ayaka took in a deep breath, her armored attire fluttered as the wind howled from the sea. She focuses on that warm feeling on her back as she snaps her eyes open.
"Flash Freeze!"
A blanket of ice erupts from underneath her, it snakes across the ground before interacting with the waves and instantly creating a bridge made of ice across the sea.
She breathes out, like in a dance she paces herself as she prepares another thought-up attack recommended by Izuku. There were too many ways Izuku made Ayaka apply her ice, which made it hard to visualize and remember.
Izuku told her to try and assign names to it and condition her mind to use the attack she wanted. Screaming out her moves made her wary of how it would affect combat, she would want to phase out that habit when she can handle remembering her attacks.
It had been 3 months since the start of their training, Ayaka has been assigned to practice her Quirk and lift up junk from the beach. At this moment, her schedule made by Toshinori made her practice using the more aggressive parts of her Vision turned Quirk. She didn't know if it was the case but for now, it didn't bother her.
She took out her fan and started to focus, she lifts up her leg, like a crane resting along the water.
"Glacier!"
Ice grows exponentially at the stomp of her heels, it rapidly grows to a reasonable size as Ayaka steps back to observe the height.
'Still the same as last week...'
She was hitting a roadblock on how to improve her production of ice. Her specialty was intricately and accurately creating ice, she has fine control over it. She was experienced with her Vision after all.
Yet, she needed something else. Larger and larger ice, she wasn't used to using raw elemental power to create as much ice as possible. She usually just accompanies her Vision with her sword.
She was taught all her life to be elegant in a fight, not wasting energy on unnecessary movement and striking with purpose. No one strike would be useless, every strike needed precision.
Now, she needed to learn the complete opposite, using as much ice and unleashing everything in a single moment. It was hard at first, it took her 2 months to get used to removing the subconscious limit she put herself in when fighting.
"Kamisato! That was impressive!"
She looked toward the voice, it was Izuku running over to her waving his hand. She does the same as a greeting as Izuku arrives near her.
"You flatter me too much, it's about the same size as last time. I feel like I'm at a stop."
"Is that so? Remind me again how you feel when you use your quirk." Izuku asks.
Ayaka places a hand under her chin and thinks. "Well, a warm feeling at my back arrives and then gets released, as if it was storing something before escaping."
"Warm?... Maybe we just need to spread that warmth out, like maybe it's your vessel."
"I can try but it's hard to visualize how that warmth would spread out."
Izuku brainstormed, 'Visualize... Hmm. Not visualize, she needs to feel it. That could work, but how would I simulate that feeling?'
Izuku fully immersed in Quirk experimentation takes his hands and grips Ayaka's right arm. "Can you feel that? I think you need to feel out the temperature change than imagine a spreading warmth."
"An interesting outlook. I'll try doing that." she closes her eyes and feels the warmth on her right arm. She takes note of the warmth before opening her eyes. "I think I got it."
"Can you use one of your moves?"
She sweeps her left foot to the front and begins to focus again. Now with Izuku making her right arm feel warm, it made it easier for her to remember the feeling. She felt her back warm up along with some heat going to her right arm before releasing everything through her forward heel.
"Flash Freeze!"
Just like before it snakes across the ground before impacting the sea and gradually forming an ice bridge. She gazes into the distance and learns that it worked. It only gave about a meter of extra distance but she got a breakthrough.
"It reached further, your guide worked. I appreciate your help Midoriya."
"That's great!" He flusters at the compliment before immediately asking for something else he wanted to know about. "Have you tried practicing your intangible form?"
Ayaka focused again and sank her feet into the ground but stopped short. "That is all I can focus on removing specifically for now. I can do my fingertips as well but that seems to be my current limit."
Izuku got the idea after seeing Ayaka sink into the ground and turn into frost. He made her try out focusing on only sections of her body to become frost rather than her entire body without sinking.
It was going to be her most powerful move but Ayaka despite constant practice couldn't do more than a few inches of her ankles being turned intangible and only her fingertips being able to turn into frost.
"I feel like I'm falling behind. " Ayaka sighs out.
Izuku clenches his fist and jitters around nervously. "Don't say that, you're doing great. At least you're still trying to work hard despite it being hard to do. Besides, you've already worked hard haven't you?"
Ayaka looked up to the horizon. "It's just that... if I'm going to save people I need to train even harder."
Izuku nodded, "You already know swordsmanship and have trained for a long time right?"
"Yes, with my brother." she absentmindedly responds.
"Your brother?" Izuku curiously asked. It was the first time ever since they first got acquainted that Ayaka told him anything personal.
Ayaka realizes her mistake but after considering who she was talking to, she relaxes, she had gotten to know Izuku for a while. 'I think it's fine to share.'
Ayaka started to reminisce, smiling happily while she recounted everything. "He is an amazing big brother, talented, smart, and hardworking. Ever since we were just children, he taught me a lot of things and took care of me. Words cannot describe how much I admired him."
She suddenly lowers her smile for a moment. "Though when our parents died I saw that he was overwhelmed, I stepped up to try and share his burden. He denied it and wanted to bear everything on his own but I didn't let up. I wanted to help, he was already working so hard and I wanted to make it easier on him."
Izuku was listening in closely. "So you worked hard so that he won't be too stressed. You are a good sister Kamisato."
"I wish I still could do more," she adds.
"I'm sure your brother is proud of you. I don't know who he is personally but from how you look up to him and how much he works for his siblings, then he'd be so proud of you already."
Ayaka clasped her hand together. 'Knowing him, he would be proud... I wonder how he's doing.'
"Hey, I remember you saying you were tutored what does it feel like?" Izuku asks.
She straightened herself as she spoke highly of her passions. "It's enjoyable, at least for me since I learned a lot. It led me to have a majority of my hobbies, especially my love for dancing."
Izuku stared surprised. "You dance?"
Izuku was surprised at another talent of Ayaka's, he thought that with the number of things Ayaka had been practicing, Izuku thought she'd be royalty or something similar.
Ayaka tilted her head as she responded. "Maybe someday I could show it to you."
A lull started, and the waves crashing filled the ambiance. Izuku stared blankly, "Hmmm, do you want to study with me? I have a test coming up, I can do it just fine but as All Might said, having a companion can always be better."
Ayaka looks toward Izuku and questions his choice of who to invite over to study with, "Why me and not a friend?"
Izuku was confused. They had been working as training partners for 3 months constantly, he already considered her a friend the moment All Might said to work with Ayaka. "Huh? Kamisato you're already my friend."
Ayaka felt herself get elated at the prospect of someone actually considering her a friend. "You... consider me your friend?"
Izuku twiddles his thumbs around while nervously responding. "Well, of course, I do. Wait... is it bad for me to assume we're friends?"
Ayaka was happy, her first friend in Japan and the first one on Earth, if she was alone she'd be jumping up and down from receiving a friend. If only Ayato could see her make another friend, he'd be proud indeed.
She places a hand over her heart. "No, not at all! I'm glad you consider me your friend." she bows in thanks. "As for your request, that would be nice. I'm not particularly well informed of knowledge in Japan. If I recall there is the written exam portion of the test. It may be too early but there's no time better than as soon as possible."
Izuku nods furiously, "Yes there is, we can start when we rest during our breaks in between training. I can bring them over tomorrow."
"Young Midoriya! We can begin again!" Toshinori waved from the street, right near a parked pickup truck.
"I got to go! Let's do our best until the entrance exam Kamisato!"
"Mhm. Agreed."
