Chapter 4

T'Pol was brought to captain Janeway and Tuvok for questioning. Faced with B'Elanna's accusation, T'Pol saw little reason to lie any further.

Janeway: So it's true? You and 30 others are planning to desert?
T'Pol: I would not classify it as desertion. But to answer your question, yes.
Janeway: How would you classify this?
T'Pol: Leaving. When our two crews were stranded in the Delta Quadrant this truce made sense. Noone could predict how the war would turn out, we knew the war might be over long before we made it home. But now, if we make it home we risk incarceration or execution by the cardasians.
Janeway: Cardasia has been under occupation since the end of the Dominion war.
T'Pol: They also have a history of extra-judicial executions.
Tuvok: What did you discuss with Susan before her death?
T'Pol: I reminded her of our plans to leave, and what she might face from the cardasians back home. I tried to once again persuade her to come with us. Susan however was adamant about seeing her son, even risking assasination to see him again.
Tuvok: Is that why you killed her?
T'Pol: I did not kill her, nor do I know who did.
Janeway: By your own admission it's unlikely she would commit suicide, and you lied to Tuvok.
T'Pol: What was the logic in killing her? Before her death you knew nothing of our plans, had B'Elanna not panicked and told you, you would still be in the dark.
Janeway: Perhaps she was also going to panic and you killed her to shut her up.
T'Pol: I cannot say what was going on in her head when she dies. All I can say for certain is that I did not kill her.
Janeway: I am placing you in the brig on suspicion of murder. Tomorrow I'm holding a hearing to determine whether there is enough evidence to charge you with murder. An officer will defend you, you can choose your own if you like.
T'Pol: I choose Tuvok. He is familiar with the case, and will not be blinded with emotion.
Janeway: Very well. Mr Tuvok, I suggest you spend the night confering with your client and preparing her defense.
