Chapter 1
Olivia felt her phone buzz. She looked down and rolled her eyes. She typed almost in anger to respond to the text. Fin saw her frustration, "You ok?" Fin noticed his partner struggling lately. He was always trying to protect her. She was family.
Olivia sighed, "Yeah, just Brian. He thinks I have some of his things from the move. Well, break up, not move." Fin knew they parted on bad terms. He thought Brian Cassidy was a dick and wasn't right for Olivia anyway.
Fin looked confused, "You moved from his spot. Why would you have his things?" Olivia held up her hands and continued to text. She knew he was trying to get a rise out of her and she was giving him everything he wanted. She deleted the response and put her phone down.
She looked to see where they were, "He just wants conversation. I shouldn't entertain it." Olivia remembered thinking moving in with him was a mistake, but after the William Lewis incident, she just didn't want to be alone in her apartment.
Fin shrugged, "Want me to tune him up?" Olivia smiled, Fin was her family. He had stuck by her side for so many years. Sometimes they argued like brother and sister, but he was always her protector. She knew he would do anything for her. They had worked together for a long time.
Olivia laughed, "No, I'm ok. I let Lewis get in my head. You're the one that saved me, again. I should have moved in with you and Phoebe."
Fin saved her years ago when she and him went undercover in a jail and he saved her again. Fin knew they hadn't been the same since William Lewis, but he didn't know what was the final straw.
Olivia and Brian had an argument right before the attack about a pregnancy scare and he heard them. It hurt Olivia so much. When Olivia didn't respond to his text, he and Phoebe went to check on her. He never imagined finding Lewis in her apartment.
William Lewis was a serial rapist they had chased for over a week. He broke into her apartment and was terrorizing her. Fin smiled, "Liv, you've come a long way this year and I just checked on you. You saved that young girl and put the bullet in that son of a bitch." Lewis had abducted a 15 year old girl and was threatening to rape her in front of Olivia, then rape and kill Olivia.
Fin parked in front of the school, "Come on let's do this." Olivia climbed out of the car and shook her head, "Fin, do you ever get tired of this?" Fin took off his shades, "Liv, it's sad sometimes but we're here to help." Olivia knew he was right, but she had done this job so long and for a year now she had done it with Brain and Lewis in her mind and without Elliot Stabler.
She knew if Elliot was still around none of this would have happened. She closed her eyes remembering the bullet that took his life in the squad room shooting. They walked into the office and her best friend hugged her, "Well hello Sergeant Benson! Hey Fin!" Olivia had recently been promoted. She was 36 and that was young for the position, but she had also worked her ass off. She shook her head, "It's not a big deal."
Fin cut his eyes at her, "It's a huge deal and well deserved." He turned to Alex Cabot and pointed through the window, "So she's 8?" Alex nodded, "She's got bruises on her arm. I called you because I knew her sister when I taught middle school. I could never prove it, but I thought she was being abused. Plus child services are really backed up."
Olivia remembered Alex teaching, but she was a principal now. "That was a while ago." Alex agreed. Olivia and Alex had been friends since they were kids. They even went to college and lived together. Alex revealed she had a crush on Olivia, but after some flirting and a few kisses, they decided to be best friends.
Alex moved closer to the door, "Her sister must be 24 or 25 by now. Kim doesn't know her though. I asked her once how Amanda was doing and she didn't have a clue." They all walked into the office. Alex introduced them, "Kim, this Sergeant Benson and Detective Tutuola. They want to talk to you about the bruises." Kim smiled at them, "Ok."
Olivia sat next to her and Fin sat across from them both with Alex. Olivia looked at her arm, "So, how did you get these?" Olivia could tell right away they were handprints, probably from someone grabbing her. It wasn't much to go on by itself. Anything could have caused her to grab her.
Olivia examined it while Kim spoke. "I went into a room that I wasn't supposed to go into and my mom pulled me back." That's actually what Olivia was thinking. The only thing that sent up a flag was her going into a room.
Fin asked, "A room in your house?" Kim shook her head, "No, it was a place my dad works in sometimes." Fin kept questioning, "Where does your dad work?" Olivia let him take it, because he was asking all the right questions and she was open to telling him. The more they heard, the more they could figure out.
Kim shrugged, "I don't know the address. It's just a house. I don't usually even go there, but he called my mom for something and she was already bringing me to school. He was mad, I heard him through the phone."
Olivia became concerned while listening, "What did your dad say?" Kim sighed, "He said a lot of bad words, but he wanted a package. He's not my real dad, but he makes me call him dad. My dad died before I was born. But I'm not supposed to know that. I really shouldn't be telling you anything. I could get in trouble."
Olivia was more concerned. It was difficult listening to an 8 year old explaining things. "Do you get in trouble a lot?" Olivia watched Kim like she was thinking. She was cute and chewed on her bottom lip. Then she looked at Alex almost like she was checking with her about the question.
Kim twisted her face, "I don't think I'm bad, but they do sometimes. I get in trouble a little bit here at school. Ms. Cabot, I'm good in school right?" Alex thought she was good and very smart, but she did talk back sometimes. Alex smiled, "You are good sweetheart."
Olivia needed something else. Kim wasn't saying anything bad enough to pull her from the home. "Kim?" Kim turned in the swivel chair and looked at her. Olivia smiled, "Do you know the difference between a good touch and bad touch?" Kim nodded and bit her lip, "Yes." Olivia took a deep breath, "Does anyone at home ever touch you in a bad way?"
Kim hesitated and Olivia didn't like it. "Umm no but…" Fin let Olivia take the lead. Olivia leaned forward and held her hand, "But what baby?"
Kim cried a little, "My mom's not a bad person. She didn't mean to hurt me. She pulled me back because my dad was giving a girl bad touches. She even rubbed and kissed it in the car before I came to school. And she loves my baby brother."
Everyone looked up. Fin and Olivia looked towards Alex for clarification. Alex didn't know anything about a brother. She also hadn't seen her mother in quite a while. She was shocked, "Since when do you have a brother?"
Kim's whole face lit up. They could tell she was proud and happy about him. She smiled, "He's 3 months old and his name is Noah James Rollins. Daddy is his real dad, but he doesn't like Noah." That set off some alarms and Fin wrote it down and Olivia asked why. Kim shrugged, "He has my real dad's last name because dad said mom couldn't use Drake." Kim went on and on about him. They even heard what his favorite toy was.
Olivia needed to talk about the girl. "Kim, I bet you are a really good big sister. I'd love to meet Noah one day. Did you know the girl?" Fin was writing down everything and so was Alex.
Kim nodded, "Her name is Ariel. She's nice, but not from New York. She watched TV with me once." Olivia asked her age. Kim bit her lip, "Ummm I don't know, but she ran away when she was 13. She told me that, when she asked to borrow my iPad. I don't think she ran away though." Olivia wondered why Kim thought that. Kim quickly answered, "Because when she used my iPad, she called her mom. She begged me not to tell and said we could be friends. Can you help her Olivia? I'm ok."
Fin knew Kim was smart, too smart. He asked, "What was happening to her?" Kim closed her eyes. They all could tell she didn't want to talk about it. She took a big breath. This was a lot for a little girl. "Timmer had his belt off and she was naked and screaming. Dad hit her and she went to sleep. That's when mom pulled me out. Dad was mad and mom squeezed my arm."
That was it, they had enough. Olivia called the Captain. "We need Pippa Cox. Cap, we need to find out what's going on." Cragen told Fin and Olivia to bring her in. Olivia knew this would be the hard part, "Kim, let's get your stuff and you are going to come with us."
Kim flipped, "No please! Mom will get hurt." Olivia held her, "Hey, it's ok. She's not going to get hurt. She's not in trouble. We're going to call her and talk ok." Kim shook her head, "Dad will hurt her." Olivia didn't like the fact that Kim was so sure.
