"Legends."
A female voice began to speak with a deep tone of voice, almost as if one of evil, as the world would begin to turn to void. A tower began to form amidst the white clouds, emerging from the fog of void, in blips of white, grey and green; a towering feeling remained prominent, even with the lack of a direct comparison due to a lack of anything else present besides it.
"Stories scattered through time."
As the top of the monolith would begin to emerge from the white fog, the spire on top would begin to leak out an ominous green aura, emanating like it was leaking untapped tower of some kind.
"Mankind has grown quite fond of recounting the exploits of heroes and villains, forgetting so easily that we are remnants, by-products, of a forgotten past."
The green orbs hanging from the top of the spire would take on the nuclear green aura of the spire itself, before they would turn into a powerful white light that would emit a blinding light, fading into black dust in the process. The proper surface of the world began to form in black and white, jet-like particles emerging from the ground; said particles would begin to form into vague semblances of human figures.
"Man, born from dust, was strong, wise, and resourceful, but he was born into an unforgiving world."
As vague semblances turned into more well-defined outlines, a human figure began to emerge from the void, a spear materializing in its hand in a way very similar to how it materialized.
"An inevitable darkness — creatures of destruction — the creatures of Grimm - set their sights on man and all of his creations."
Around the human, however, a black cloud of dust would begin to form, clouding a good chunk of the white cloud, as red eyes began to flow ominously within the cloud. Monsters of various forms, shapes and sizes would begin to take shape, most of them towering over the human figure. However, more human silhouettes would begin to emerge from the ground, wielding weapons of various kinds as they faced down the monsters of Grimm in almost blind confidence.
The two sides clashed in a war that was fated to be eternal in nature…
Creation and destruction…
Life and death…
Construction and ruin…
Hope and despair…
"These forces clashed, and it seemed the darkness was intent on returning man's brief existence to the void."
The black cloud of shadow-like dust particles would begin to encroach on the human figures, continuing to inch closer and closer. Ultimately, however, the black cloud would consume all, the entirety of the human figures disappearing… glimmers of white sparks, would begin to form, however, almost like clouds of quarks or neutrons, merging and becoming bigger sparkles, before subsequently…
"However, even the smallest spark of hope is enough to ignite change, and in time, man's passion, resourcefulness, and ingenuity led them to the tools that would help even the odds."
A ray of light would emerge from the darkness, forming into a pure white crystal, as it shone brightly. Rising in to the air, it was almost firm in its conviction for something lacking of a soul, within the confines of the void.
"This power was appropriately named 'Dust'."
More human silhouettes would begin to form once more, before the white crystal would begin to slowly descend, landing just above the human silhouettes; the crystal would emanate an aura of radiance and nobility, of white light shining like a ray of hope.
"Nature's wrath in hand, man lit their way through the darkness, and in the shadow's absence came strength, civilization, and most importantly, life."
More human silhouettes would begin to form around those who accepted the Dust crystal, as the black cloud of shadow would begin to become taken over by white, the monsters of Grimm approaching them beginning to be repelled by the humans; each of the humans wielded either blades that they would use to strike the darkness down, or their hands, sending out magic that would cause the fog to dissipate further.
As the monsters would begin to fade, a castle of some kind would begin forming behind the humans. Zooming out, the castle would become a smaller part of what appeared to be a map with multiple large continents and multiple small islands. Three other castles would form on the map, as they each radiated with white light…
"But even the most brilliant lights eventually flicker and die. And when they are gone... darkness will return."
The castles would begin to flicker, before fading into dust, as the entire map would burn, a blazing flame consuming the scroll and turning it into ash. Emerging from the burning scripture would be a shattered moon of some sorts that would overlook a city, the lights of the buildings lighting up the night skies.
"So you may prepare your guardians, build your monuments to a so-called "free world", but take heed... there will be no victory in strength."
Five figures would step out of an alleyway, walking amidst the shadows provided by the sheer height of the buildings surrounding them. Four of the individuals, clad in black suits and red sunglasses that would cover their eyes, would step behind their ringleader, a man clad in a white fancy outfit and a black bowler hat. The ringleader would smirk menacingly, a flick of his finger reigniting the cigar in his hand.
The five would walk down the road, much to the fear and horror of the nearby citizens, who would step out of the way for the five mysterious figures in question. As they would walk down the streets, they would stop in front of a store, the banner 'From Dust Till Dawn' plastered on the front of the building in an almost neon-like sign. The ringleader would keep his smirk up; before the group would enter the store, pushing the door open with sheer force.
As they entered the door, the door slamming shut behind them, a young girl clad in a red cloak that would cover her head, would stand in the corner of the shop, reading what appeared to be a weapons magazine of some form, articles of scythes and pistols decorating its front cover. Another voice then spoke, in a male voice that felt like a calm, in contrast to the first voice, deep and dark in nature.
"But perhaps victory is in the simpler things that you've long forgotten. Things that require a more, honest soul."
As the four henchmen of the ringleader would look around, observing the Dust crystals that were currently stored in a display case manned by the owner of the shop, the ringleader, Roman Torchwick would approach the elderly shopkeeper, flicking his cigar a little to maintain the menacing aura he kept up.
"Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a Dust shop open this late?"
One of the henchmen would pull out his weapon, a submachine gun of some kind, as he would point it at the shopkeeper, landing point-blank on his head.
The shopkeeper would raise his hands, claiming in fear, "P-please! Just take my Lien and leave!"
Roman would simply chuckle ominously, immediately responding with a simple, "Shhh, shhh, shhh, shhh… calm down. We're not here for your money." Turning to another of the four henchmen, he would point to the Dust crystals the shopkeeper was currently handling. "Grab the Dust."
Said henchman would open the case that was in his hand, revealing multiple blank containers resembling cylinders, that he would use to take the Dust from the containers on the walls, said Dust stored in tube-like storage devices.
Another henchman would pull out another case, opening it to reveal multiple empty slots, as he slammed the case in front of the shopkeeper. "Crystals. Burn. Uncut." He stated briefly, yet menacingly, though not to the level of Torchwick.
(BGM: This Will Be the Day)
The shopkeeper would, still frightened from the situation that was unfolding, would take the crystals out from its display case, putting them into the case that the henchman was holding. At the same time, the remaining henchman would assist the second henchman in siphoning the Dust from the containers on the walls, before noticing the girl listening to her music, reading her magazine.
Pulling out his weapon, a sword, he would unsheathe it, walking over to her and pointing it at her back. "Alright, kid, put your hands where I can see 'em!"
Noticing a lack of response from the other, the henchman would increase his tone of voice. "Hey, I said hands in the air! You got a death wish or something?!"
Walking to her, the henchman would turn her around, the hood dropping to reveal a girl in red… Ruby Rose. The girl wearing headphones, the henchman would motion for her to lower them, as she looked at him in confusion.
"Yes?"
"I said, put your hands in the air, now!"
"Are you… robbing me?" Ruby asked, almost in sheer exasperation at the situation that was unfolding.
"Yes!"
"Oh."
As Roman waited for his henchmen to finish the heist, his cane cocked like a gun in the direction of the shopkeeper's head, multiple war cries were suddenly heard, as the henchman threatening Ruby Rose would be sent flying past him, crashing through the window. Roman would simply sigh, motioning for the henchman siphoning the Dust tubes to handle the girl in red.
"Freeze!" Said henchman would scream, before from outside the shop, the henchman would be sent flying through the window as well, followed by an attacking Ruby Rose.
As the rest of the henchmen, along Roman, would look outside, Ruby would stand up, beginning to unfold the clip that was on her belt. The weapon beginning to unfold into a massive weapon, it would become a scythe of some sorts, as Torchwick would scowl, much to Ruby's delight. She would simply smile at them, twirling her weapon around herself before she struck it into the ground, turning off her headphones.
"Okay…" Roman nonchalantly sighed, as he motioned his remaining henchmen, "Get her!"
As the two henchmen jumped out of the window, charging at the girl in red, she would spin around her scythe, kicking one of the two henchmen that were approaching her in the face. Sending her weapon, Crescent Rose, from the ground, she would send it flying into said henchman, firing a shot from the weapon through an integrated firearm, the recoil of the weapon sending him flying.
Firing another shot from the weapon, she would send the weapon bashing into the other henchman, dodging the gunfire from the two henchmen that were originally sent flying by the girl in red through the power of her weapon's speed, closing the gap between the three combatants effortless. Knocking them into the air using the back side of the scythe blade, she would then send them flying into the window once again, landing at Roman's feet.
Roman scowled a little. "You were worth every cent. Truly, you were." Dropping the cigar in his mouth onto the floor, crushing it with his cane, he would hear the sounds of approaching police sirens.
"Well, Red. I think we can say it's been an eventful evening, and as much as I'd like to stick around…" The ringleader would raise his cane, revealing the pistol barrel that was at the end of it, "I'm afraid that this is where we part ways."
Immediately, he would send a red shot in Ruby's direction, the latter firing at the ground with her weapon and jumping over it. As she would look up, however, Torchwick would suddenly no longer be in said position, climbing a ladder onto a nearby building.
As Ruby turned to look at the shopkeeper, the latter would suddenly be mysteriously missing, much to Ruby's confusion. However, she would decide to take the initiative, as Ruby would chase after Torchwick, the latter having already made it onto the roof. Ruby would also land on the roof, landing nearby his location, as the former called out the latter.
"Hey!"
"Persistent…" Roman stated, stopping at the edge of the building.
Ruby would ready herself, swinging the scythe around her, before a flying vehicle would suddenly emerge from the skies, its main hatch opening to allow Roman inside. Roman would simply chuckle, turning around to face Ruby, a red Dust gem currently in his hand.
"End of the line, Red."
"Whoa-ho-ho-ho!" Roman cheered, before he sensed that something was wrong, seeing another figure emerging on the roof and from the dust. "Huh?"
A woman in a purple cape, Glynda Goodwitch would suddenly be standing in front of Ruby, her weapon, a riding crop, extend, and a purple glyph protecting the two figures. A scowl would form on Glynda's face, before she would then summon several streaks of purple crystal, targeting the getaway vehicle that Torchwick was using.
As the vehicle would begin to shake, Roman thrown around in the back of the vehicle, the ringleader would manage to make it to the cockpit of the vehicle, where the pilot, a woman in red, face unseen, struggled with the controls.
"We got a Huntress!" Roman screamed, as the woman in red would get up, heading to the entrance hatch, the ringleader taking over the controls.
Glynda would continue to target getaway vehicle, as she would then aim another attack, purple energy firing from her weapon and onto an area above the vehicle, a dark storm cloud forming.
"The hell?" Roman wondered, seeing the storm cloud, as Glynda would unleash the flick of her wand, large jagged hail starting to fall, pummelling the jet and breaking through the front window, narrowly missing Roman's head.
As the woman in red stood in front of the hatch, holding what appeared to be black-like orbs in her hand, observing Glynda doing her spells on the craft, her arms and chest would suddenly light up like streaks of fire, aiming a burst of energy at Glynda. The Huntress would easily block the attack, as the woman in red would take advantage of the manoeuvre, causing the flames to splatter, and glowing white hot.
Glynda would easily back-flip out of the way of the attack, which would destroy part of the roof that Ruby and Glynda were on, before extending her hand out, the shards beginning to materialize into large javelin of some kind. As Glynda would send it flying into the craft, the fiery woman would easily shatter the arrow with several blasts, though Glynda would predict the manoeuvre, reforming them just in time to hit the side of the jet.
The woman in red, however, would then toss the orbs of black from the getaway vehicle, as they would land on the ground, bursting into a cloud of black smoke, before metallic figures akin to the Trilobite Magia from Zero-One would form, bodies made from stainless steel and an urge to murder everything in their path.
Both Glynda and Ruby would flinch from the sudden disturbance to the power struggle that was unfolding in the moment, before Ruby would summon her weapon, changing it into a more shotgun-like mode, firing away at the henchmen. Said commotion would also be enough for Glynda to lose control of the getaway vehicle, as it would fly away much to her disdain. However, she would continue her focus, sending shards of glass in the direction of the henchmen.
The metallic and robotic henchmen would charge through the barrage of projectiles coming from Ruby and Glynda, before one of them would ram into Ruby, sending her reeling from the attack. At the same time, a roar would emanate from the streets below, much to the worry of Professor Goodwitch, who would continue holding off the henchmen.
SHIRO! CORRUPTION MIX!
白!腐敗合わせる!
Shiro! Fuhai Awaseru!
A flash of white light would emerge on the rooftop that the combatants that were currently fighting on, before revealing what appeared to be a tainted white figure standing amidst the smoke. Decorating its body were lines of black and grey, jagged and sharp in nature. The professor would flinch a little, routing her projectiles to the two parties that had now formed.
"Where the hell is that boy when you need him?" She asked out loud, her tone forming one of disdain, as she continued firing away.
At the same time, Ruby would barely manage to get up, grabbing her weapon, before continuing to do what she had done before, firing away at the henchmen. Said action would allow Glynda to focus on the white figure, which pulled out what appeared to be Dust crystals of some kind, tossing them in the direction of the professor.
The crystals would begin crackling, before turning into a decently-sized explosion. However, the professor was barely able to block the explosion, though she was knocked onto her feet. At the same time, Ruby would change her weapon into its scythe mode, before suddenly bursting into a flurry of rose petals, charging at the henchmen and hacking and slashing at them. While the henchmen would prove to be a threat for Ruby, her abilities would ultimately get the upper hand, destroying the last of the henchmen summoned after another swing of the weapon.
Changing her weapon back to its shotgun mode once again, she continued to fire away at the white figure, as it would toss multiple more Dust crystals, sending much smaller explosions. Glynda would then summon more crystal-like shards, morphing the Dust explosions into something she could use, as she would send them flying at the white figure.
Suddenly, however, another figure would emerge, climbing up the same ladder that Ruby had taken, before firing multiple rounds of ammunition that would send the white figure reeling. Both Glynda and Ruby would turn to face the individual, who would continue to fire away ammunition with the blaster that seemed to be in his hand, something that resembled the Donblaster used by the Donbrothers.
"Am I late?" The individual asked, a question which immediately prompted Glynda to give him a scowl.
"You're late. Kuen Akegata." She responded, a hint of disdain present in her tone.
"Right. Right… sorry." The individual, Kuen, meekly responded. He knew full well that he was screwed just from the fact that she'd mentioned his full name.
Immediately, however, he focused on the matter at hand, the white figure getting up and roaring at him. Gulping a little, he would then pull out what appeared to be a blank gear, only consisting of a blank symbol surrounded by a gold rim, inserting it into what appeared to be a slot on the weapon. He would then pull what appeared to be a crank, as the barrel of the firearm charged with white energy.
SAT! SU! EI! SHOOTING!
撮影!シューティング!
Satsuei! Shūtingu!
Aiming the weapon at the white figure, he would fire a white ray of energy that would pierce through the figure, sending it collapsing onto the ground with a small explosion that rivalled that of the Dust explosion that it liked sending out as its main attack. The smoke dying down, it would reveal… the shopkeeper that manned the 'From Dust Till Dawn' shop, much to Ruby's shock.
"So…" Kuen turned to face Glynda. "What now?"
As Ruby sat in a dark room, lit almost like an interrogation room, her face would reek of shame; in comparison to the face of amusement she'd given earlier asking Glynda for her autograph. Said individual in question would step from the darkness, a tablet in her hand, as she would pace around the table Ruby was seated at.
"I hope that you realize that your actions tonight will not be taken lightly, young lady. You put yourself and others in great danger." The young professor mentioned, before Ruby would raise her arms in protest.
"They started it!"
Kuen would then raise a point, immediately siding with Ruby, "Hey, to be fair. She was in what was basically a hostage situation. You can't blame her for acting out in self-defence."
His statement would be briefly met with a frown from Glynda's direction, before she would then continue her words with Ruby. "If it were up to me, you'd be sent home… with a pat of the back."
And immediately, noticing the girl in red beginning to smile, she would crack her whip, slamming the table with it, "…and a slap on the wrist."
Ruby would react with surprise, almost jumping from her seat. The same could be said with the individual, though Glynda would then continue, "But… there is someone here who would like to meet you."
Kuen would react with an air of interest, continuing to listen into the conversation, as a man clad in green would emerge from the shadows, through the doorway, holding a mug with what appeared to be coffee in one hand and a plate of cookies in another.
"Ruby Rose…" The man spoke in a deep voice, similar to that of the second narrator, "You… have silver eyes."
"Uh, umm…" Ruby reacted in confusion.
"That's a weird comment." Kuen muttered under his breath, soft enough that the other three figures present in the room couldn't hear what he'd said.
"So!" The man in green would switch topics, immediately gesturing at the tablet that Glynda held, now showing Ruby's fight with Roman's henchmen in front of the Dust store, "Where did you learn to do this?"
"S-Signal Academy." Ruby replied, as her hands fidgeted around, much to the confusion of the individual, unsure of what this place even was.
"They taught you to use one of the most dangerous weapons ever designed?" The man in green then wondered.
"Well, one teacher in particular…"
"I see…"
The man in green would gently place down the plate of cookies on the table, pushing it in Ruby's direction. She would pick one up gently, observing the reaction of the two adults in front of her, before eating said cookie in a single bite. Continuing to observe their reactions, not seeing any sign of opposition from the two adults, she would then begin to shovel the rest into her mouth, almost full of gluttony in her tone of actions.
"It's just that I've only seen one other scythe-wielder of that skill before," The man in green then retorted. "A dusty old crow…"
Continuing to chow down on the cookies, Ruby would then mumble amidst each bite, "Oh! That's my uncle!" And as she swallowed the food in her mouth, she would then continue, a little embarrassed, "Sorry. That's my Uncle Qrow! He's a teacher at Signal. I was complete garbage before he took me under his wing. And now, I'm all like—"
She immediately made karate-styled poses and noises, much to Kuen's own surprise, as he would snicker a little at the situation unfolding, though earnestly rather than sarcastically. "So I've noticed." The man in green then stated, as he would place his cup on the table. Leaning it, he would then take a seat opposite Ruby, before asking, "And what is an adorable girl such as yourself doing at a school designed to train warriors?"
A small smile formed on Ruby's face, as she meekly replied with, "Well… I want to be a Huntress."
"You want to slay monsters?"
"Yeah! I only have two more years of training left at Signal! And then I'm going to apply to Beacon!" Ruby started on her tangent, the speed of her voice beginning to increase. "You see, my sister's starting there this year, and she's trying to become a Huntress, and I'm trying to become a Huntress 'cause I wanna help people. My parents always taught us to help others, so I thought, Hey, I might as well make a career out of it!" A brief giggle escaped Ruby's lips. "I mean the police are alright, but Huntsmen and Huntresses are just so much more romantic and exciting and cool and really, gosh, you know!"
Kuen would then let out a small smile as he heard Ruby's reasoning, briefly reminiscing on something, as Glynda and the man in green would continue to study her, as she began to consume another of the cookies that was on the plate, the amount of food on the plate beginning to dwindle.
"Do you know who I am?" The man in green asked.
"You're Professor Ozpin. Headmaster of Beacon Academy."
A small smile formed on Ozpin's face.
"Hello."
"Nice to meet you."
"You want to come to my school?"
"More than anything."
Glynda would only let out a sigh as Ozpin would exchange glances with the other, proceeding to turn back to look at Ruby.
"Well, okay." Ozpin responded, as Ruby reacted with a smile, wide-eyed and open-mouthed.
"It's not like you're the first person I've allowed in such circumstances." Ozpin then briefly noted out loud, before Ruby reacted in confusion.
Kuen would chuckle, waving at Ruby from his corner of the room, something the latter would react to with a confused wave.
A new day has arrived. And as an airplane (which resembled a cargo ship) took into the skies, a girl in yellow would tackle Ruby in a hug aboard the flying ship, much to the latter's chagrin. Mainly because the former was crushing the air out of the latter at the present moment.
"Oh, I can't believe my baby sister is going to Beacon with me!" The girl in yellow chirped. "This is the best day ever!"
Ruby continued to gasp for air. "Pl-please stop."
"But I'm so proud of you!" The girl in yellow responded, as Ruby chuckled a little.
"Really Sis, it was nothing."
Nearby to the two sisters, Kuen would continue browsing through his phone, reading the news.
"What do you mean? It was incredible!" The girl in yellow responded. "Everyone at Beacon is going to think you're the bee's knees."
Ruby turned to face her sister, a little exasperation showing in her expression. "I don't want to be the 'bee's knees', okay? I don't want to be any kind of knees! I just want to be a normal girl with normal knees."
"What's with you? Aren't you excited?"
"Of course I'm excited… I just…" Ruby let out a sigh. "I got moved ahead two years. I don't want people to think I'm special or anything."
"Wait." Kuen then interjected, looking at her in surprise. "Two years? Looking at you, I thought it was one?"
"Right, I forgot to tell you about that, Kuen." Ruby then retorted.
Ruby's elder sister then took the moment to introduce herself to the other. "So, you must be the one who helped Rubes with the whole thing that happened the other night, right?"
"Yeah, I think I'm that guy."
"Well, pleasure to be of acquaintance. Yang Xiao Long." The girl in yellow then stated.
Kuen chuckled a little. "Akegata Kuen. Call me Kuen. Or something like that."
"Weren't you waiting for Ruby to pack her stuff earlier or something?" Yang then asked.
"Yep. At least she didn't take xiao long." Kuen replied, much to the chagrin of Ruby, who would then groan.
Yang's face lit up with mischief, almost as she'd felt a sudden connection with the dude who was now making a pun of all things, before their attention would suddenly be drawn to the news that was airing on the holographic television, something that Kuen found rather amusing.
"The robbery was led by nefarious criminal Roman Torchwick, who continues to evade authorities. If you have any information on his whereabouts, please contact the Vale Police Department." The reported stated, as Kuen made a note to write that in his notebook.
"Oh, that's the guy." Both Kuen and Ruby said in unison, as Yang snickered at that.
"Back to you, Lisa." The reporter on the screen stated, before changing to a woman dressed in a suit with lavender hair, the photo of animal-eared demonstrators holding multiple signs next to her.
"Thank you, Cyril. In other news, this Saturday's Faunus Civil Rights protest turned dark when members of the White Fang disrupted the ceremony."
The image would then change into a logo of a growling red wolf's head with three scratch marks.
"The once peaceful organization has now disrupted-"
At that moment, the news feed would become cut off, as a hologram of Glynda would take its place.
"Hello, and welcome to Beacon!" The professor then began to speak.
"Who's that?" Yang asked out loud.
As Kuen began to answer Yang's question, the hologram would give answers almost immediately. "My name is Glynda Goodwitch."
"Oh." Yang muttered, as Kuen would immediately shut up.
"You are among a privileged few who have received the honour of being selected to attend this prestigious academy! Our world is experiencing an incredible time of peace, and as future Huntsmen and Huntresses, it is your duty to uphold it."
"You have demonstrated the courage needed for such a task, and now it is our turn to provide you with the knowledge and the training to protect our world."
With that, the hologram would disappear, as many of the passengers on board, including Ruby and Kuen, would look out the window, seeing the cityscape unfolding beneath them. Kuen couldn't help but look in wonder and amazement, seeing the bustling activity of the city streets.
Ruby would then comment, "Oh, wow! Look, you can see Signal from up here!" Her head was basically planted onto the glass windows, as she then mentioned, "I guess home isn't too far after all!"
Kuen smiled a little, before responding, "Well… Beacon's our home now, I suppose…"
The brief moment would be ruined by the presence of another passenger at the back of the aircraft, groaning and hunching over as he ran in the direction of the back.
"Well… I guess the view isn't for everyone." Yang commented on the passenger, rolling her eyes a little.
"It was a nice moment while it lasted." Ruby retorted, as Kuen would agree with her statement.
And as the aircraft approached Beacon Academy, its towers towering over every other building within a five-to-ten kilometre radius, the moment was once again interrupted… by the fact that Ruby had noticed vomit on Yang's shoe. Clearly from you know who.
And panic proceeded to ensue.
