Hereditary

This is an alternate ending for the episode "Generations".

Inside a wrecked battleship…

Goliath had managed to break out of the heavy chains binding him after seeing the Stealth Hunter attempting to kill his daughter, Angela. She and Demona had launched an assault to free Goliath from capture, but Angela discovered the horrible truth that it had all been staged by Demona as she had HIRED the Hunter to kidnap Goliath, who would then be conveniently killed off. Unsurprisingly, the Hunter betrays Demona so that he could take out the Gargoyles in one fell swoop. That was his last mistake as it enraged Goliath enough to break out of his bonds and take down the Stealth Hunter himself.

After defeating the Stealth Hunter and making sure he won't be waking up anytime soon, the leader of the Manhattan Clan looks over to Angela who was trying to clear her head, then glared at a recovering Demona. Suddenly, noises coming from the reenforced door got louder as Brooklyn, Broadway, and Lexington managed to break through. The three angrily stomp towards the traitorous exiled female Gargoyle.

"We got her!" said Broadway.

"You're not getting away this time!" said Brooklyn.

Goliath also walks over, but stops to help Angela up.

Demona backpedals as she drapes her wings about her defiantly. "This changes nothing! Goliath will be the death of us all!"

Goliath gives his former lover a glare at the comment as she once again refuses to take any responsibility for her actions. However, Angela gets up and walks towards her so-called mother with rage in her eyes.

"How dare you… you used me to try and kill Father!" said Angela as she glared at Demona.

Demona again tried to appeal to her daughter. "It… started out that way, but now… I wouldn't hurt you for the world." She caresses Angela's face as she says this.

Suddenly, Demona's wrist was gripped by Angela with a strength to rival Goliath's, forcing her hand away. Demona was shocked at the pressure being applied on her wrist as she looked at Angela, whose eyes were glowing red with fury.

"DON'T! TOUCH! ME!"

WHAM!

Before she could act, Demona gets brutally punched in the face by Angela, knocking her down to the ground. This action caught the male Gargoyles completely by surprise.

Demona held a hand to her swollen cheek and looked up at Angela in shock. "A-Angela…? W-what are you-"

CRACK!

"SHUT UP!" roared Angela as she delivered a savage kick at Demona's face, knocking her onto her back. Before she could get up, Angela was already upon her, pinning her down.

"Angela! Wait-"

BAM!

"I SAID SHUT UP!" Angela shouted as she cut off Demona's pleas with another fist to her face. "I'VE HAD IT WITH YOUR STUPID EXCUSES! I'M DONE LISTENING TO YOU! YOU'RE NOTHING BUT A ROTTEN LIAR! I WAS STUPID TO TRUST YOU!"

Angela proceeded to brutally punch Demona's face in, causing blood to trickle from her head and bruises to form. She stopped to grab a handful of the exile's hair, forcing her to look at her enraged daughter.

"I WANTED TO GIVE YOU A CHANCE WHEN THE OTHERS WOULDN'T! I TOLD THEM THEY COULD BE WRONG ABOUT YOU! I WANTED US TO BE A FAMILY AGAIN! I GAVE YOU MY TRUST AND YOU BETRAYED IT!"

"I… was just… doing it for y-"

SMASH!

Angela once again cut off Demona's talking by punching her in the face so hard her head slammed into the ground, at the same time ripping out a clump of her hair from her scalp. "I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT!"

"Angela… sto-"

SLASH!

Demona screamed in pain when Angela slashed her down the face with her claws. Her scream was once again cut off by Angela punching into her face, right onto her new fresh wounds.

"I'LL NEVER FORGIVE YOU!"

WHAM! WHAM! WHAM!

"IF YOU WEREN'T IMMORTAL I'D KILL YOU!"

WHAM! WHAM! WHAM!

"I CURSE THE DAY I MET YOU!"

WHAM! WHAM! WHAM!

"I CURSE THE DAY I CONSIDERED LETTING YOU INTO MY LIFE!"

WHAM! WHAM! WHAM!

"I CURSE THE DAY I LEARNED YOU WERE MY MOTHER!"

WHAM! WHAM! WHAM!

"I HATE YOU!"

WHAM! WHAM! WHAM!

"I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU!"

WHAM! WHAM! WHAM! WHAM! WHAM! WHAM!

"I!"

WHAM!

"HATE!"

WHAM!

"YOU!"

WHAM! WHAM! WHAM!

Punch after rage-fueled punch was thrown by Angela, pulping Demona's face further as well as sending some teeth flying. She was already choking on her own blood and teeth. Angela's fists were drenched in Demona's blood as she continued her assault. At that point, Angela grabbed Demona around the throat and savagely slammed her head repeatedly into the ground, the sounds echoing loudly throughout the shipwreck, showing no signs of stopping all the while crying tears of anger and anguish. She kept going even after it had become apparent that Demona had already been beaten into unconsciousness.

Throughout the beatdown, Goliath, Brooklyn, Broadway, and Lexington could only stare in shock, unable to move at what they were witnessing. Broadway, being Angela's mate, was more than perturbed at seeing the gentle female Gargoyle fly into a near murderous rage. Even though it couldn't have happened to a deserving target like Demona, Broadway couldn't help but feel scared seeing this side of his girlfriend.

Brooklyn had mixed feelings. On one hand, he was enjoying seeing Demona suffering immensely, but on the other he was also scared seeing Angela's savagery in dealing with her. Although he thought Demona had it coming for a long time, seeing Angela in a berserker state was more than shocking.

Lexington was also freaked out seeing Angela in such a state of mind and made a mental note not to get on her bad side. He's never seen anyone so consumed by rage before.

"ANGELA!"

Goliath finally snapped out of his shock and quickly restrained Angela. It took some doing, but the larger lavender Gargoyle managed to pull Angela off of Demona. Angela was restrained, but managed to get a few stomps on Demona before she was pulled out of range. Goliath held her until the rage got out of her system.

Demona's face was severely messed up. She had blood pouring out of her nose and from numerous cuts, especially from the scratch marks down her face, which was ironically done in the same pattern as the Hunter's mask. She had several bruises and a black eye, in which they were swollen shut. Some teeth were also missing. Demona laid still spread-eagle on the ground, not moving.

Angela's eyes finally returned to normal as she continued to weep over the betrayal she was given by Demona and glared hatefully at her unconscious form.

"I hate you…" she said bitterly through clenched tears. "I have no mother… I never want to see your face again!"

With that, Angela angrily spat at Demona's face, the saliva mass hitting her on her bruised cheek. She turns to leave while sobbing. The others made way for the crying female Gargoyle, unable to help feeling sorry for her.

Goliath could only look down and shake his head, feeling for his daughter. Still, he turned to address the trio. "You three secure that stealth hunter and drop him off at the police station."

"What about her?" asked Brooklyn as he pointed at Demona's body.

"Leave her. Besides, there's nothing we could do that's any worse than what Angela's done."

Brooklyn looked at the hated exiled Gargoyle and had to agree. Angela's beatdown on her was severe. It wasn't just a physical beatdown, but an emotional one, too, and that usually leaves even more serious wounds no one could recover from compared to physical pain.

Broadway, Brooklyn, and Lexington grab the still unconscious bound hunter and take him out of the ship. Goliath was soon left alone with the downed Demona. He gives her a glare and shakes his head in disappointment.

"If you can hear me, Demona, then I hope you're satisfied. You've hurt Angela more than you could ever imagine. You don't care about her as much as you claim you do. If you did, you would have been satisfied having her love and respect, but that was never enough for you, was it? You just wanted her absolute obedience. That's not having a daughter, that's having a servant at your beck and call. She gave you her heart and you betrayed it. She'll never trust you again. May you live with the fact you turned her away the rest of your life."

Goliath turned to leave, then stopped to say one final statement to the fallen Demona. "You did confirm Angela is your daughter, though. She inherited your hate. Ironic her hate is directed at you."

With that, Goliath leaves the ship ruins.

At the docks, Goliath looked up to see Angela sitting on top of a nearby ship with her knees to her face. The trio were gone having left to drop off the stealth hunter at NYPD. Angela decided to stay behind to wait for Goliath. Seeing his daughter distraught, Goliath goes over to her, seeing her quietly sobbing.

"Angela…" Goliath puts a hand on Angela's shoulder.

Angela looks up to see a concerned Goliath looking at her. She still had fresh tears on her face in which more continued to form. "Oh Father… I'm so sorry… you were right about her… you were right all along… I never should've trusted her… you were almost killed because of my foolishness!"

"Angela, I'm sorry you had to go through all of that, but you had to learn for yourself." Said Goliath. "You shouldn't blame yourself. There's nothing wrong with putting faith in others. That's what sets you apart from Demona. She never placed faith in anything but her own delusions."

"When I learned Demona was my mother, I was hoping she would let go of her obsessions of hate, but now I know she values her petty vengeance more than her own family. She used me as an excuse. She tried to control my life and I almost fell for it." Angela then looked over at Goliath. "I also learned something else. I realized I've been selfish…"

"Selfish?"

"I wanted so badly to have a family. I've been blinding myself that it just constitutes biological parents and children, and for that I risked the Clan's well-being by trusting that woman... and through it all, I never even realized I already have a family the whole time. Princess Katherine, Tom, my rookery brothers and sisters, the Clan, you, Elisa, even the Xanatos. You're all my family."

"You're right, and true family look out for each other." Said Goliath.

"Father…" Angela got up and embraced Goliath while crying softly in his chest. The larger Gargoyle hugs her back and comforts her.

After a few moments, they separate. "Come, let us go home."

"Yes, Father."

Goliath and Angela jump off the ship's railing and fly back towards the Eeyrie Building. As they flew back, Angela was left with her thoughts of Goliath's words about family.

'True family look out for each other.'

To Angela, that is a universal truth. Her real family have always been there for her. Demona has never been a part of her life, and as far as Angela's concerned she doesn't need her now or ever. She stopped being family the moment she tried to make herself the only thing that mattered in Angela's life. To Angela, Demona was no longer family but another enemy to beat down. She will protect her new family from her, and damn whatever BS excuses the exiled Gargoyle may have.

Sometime after the two Gargoyles left, a shadow peeks out from the ship wreck. Demona staggered and leaned against the wall for support as she painfully held her side. Her face was still horribly disfigured from Angela's beatdown, the scratch marks guaranteed to leave lasting scars. She was barely able to see through her one good eye which was partially swollen shut as she looked to where Goliath and Angela left. Turned out Goliath was right and that she managed to hear bits of what Goliath said.

'She gave you her heart and you betrayed it. She'll never trust you again. May you live with the fact you turned her away the rest of your life. You did confirm Angela is your daughter, though. She inherited your hate. Ironic her hate is directed at you.'

Try as she might, Demona could not shirk off blame on herself as she had done numerous times in the past. Her own daughter genuinely hates her, now and forever. With that thought a single tear trickled down her bruised cheek.

The end.

Author's notes:

I thought the original ending of the Generations episode felt too weak and that Demona didn't get nearly what she deserved after what she did to her Angela, her own daughter. Figured this would leave a more lasting impression. Angela's severe beatdown on Demona wasn't just physical, but emotional, too, solidifying that Angela truly hates Demona and has officially cut her out of her life. Giving her the Hunter's facial scars was also a touch of irony.

The beatdown scene was partially inspired by Criminal Minds when Hotch beats the shit out of that asshole Foyet AKA Reaper after he murdered his wife and bragged about killing his son next. Bad move on his part as Hotch beats him down especially after the asshole had the gall to get him to stop by saying "he surrenders". Not going to fly as Hotch savagely beats him to death by smashing his head open with repeated slams to the floor that he had to be physically restrained from pummelling the corpse further. There was just so much justified rage in that beatdown and had to give it to Angela as well.
