A Foreword
by Professor Djehuty Guttenberg:
Hello and welcome to my archive of lost fan stories thought to have disappeared forever. You may be wondering how I obtained this. I found it through the site called the Wayback Machine, also known as Internet Archive, where all manner of old stuff in the interent is stuffed and complied. I found it through via compliation created as some sort of community or personal project which archived literally millions of fanfics at any given time. Still, going through those txt files is a process that's taxing on time and computer power, especially with the limited means at my disposal, the collection is simply massive, even when classified in alphabetical order. My thanks to the people who put in the real work saving plenty of fanworks otherwise lost though a vast majority are fics that are still on FFN and may have long since been updated.
These abandoned fics are often deleted by the their own authors. Why? Many reasons, most of which we cannot ask the authors ourselves on the count some even wiped the slate completely and even cut off any attempts to PM them. Much of this has plenty to do with them moving on with their lives, looking back at their days as amatuer writers and samplers of fiction of their favorite fandoms with a degree of embarrassment, the poor grammar, the cringy character writing, the almost nonsensical plot constructions for some. They're far removed from the people who started their literary ventures with a degree of sincerity for their hobbies. Some even actually have professional writing careers. Others have simply lost that spark that drove them in the first place and looked on at their unfinished works with frusration. Still, others have had enough with the state of affairs has become FFN. Speaking from via another's experience shared, FFN here has long since gone to seed, with trolls, bots, "poser critics" who have nothing good to say and "rule enforcers" who lack a degree of empathy for who they deemed unwashed serfs dabbling in writing that understandably pushes the boundaries of what's permitted here such as in the M-rating or script fics, even if the latter has precendent in the "closet plays" of the 18th and 19th century, novels written in script form for the private pleasure of its readers. Let's not forget the Google-powered ad spam that plagues this site, courtesy of the admin staff who allow its increase in recent times. That being said, I hope saner heads prevail and bring this place back to its glory days as a land of free expression.
This particular feature I've presented to you comes from the last year of the 2000s. A straightforward melding of the James Bond and Tomb Raider franchises, specifically the Brosnan Bonds and Jolie's Lara Croft (the then-next Bond, Daniel Craig, would star in the first Tomb Raider flick) written by DarkPhoenix-24 before he removed himself from FFN. It's not a particularly well-polished or ambitious story but it is a very entertaining adventure piece that a friend had been fond of and was wholly dismayed to see it gone after many years. So I was surprised really to find out that it still existed and in the archive. Again, it would be difficult for me, if not downright impossible, to get into contact with the author to get their blessing or if they've given up the fic completely. Still, in their stony silence, I'm obliged to credit them because this is obviously not my work, I'm only giving it and others a second lease on life on FFN because they deserve such.
For this archeological relic I will give it to you in the state I have found it in, albeit in cut in short form for the reader's convenience according to chapter structure.
Without further ado, ladies and gentlmen, I present to you...
