"Welcome one and all to Hale Ho'okalakupua 'O Pu'u Moaulanui!" Ke'ala greeted the newest class to Hawai'i's wizarding academy. The newest class to join the school was comprised of both locals and immigrants who had been confirmed as possessing the powers of a wizard. There were at least a hundred students total. Ke'ala was secretly grateful for the insight she and her husband had in ensuring that a set of dormitories had been built to accommodate their newer arrivals. Having too many of them being seen traveling to and from Kaho'olawe risked far too much as far as exposing their world to what the wizarding world of Hawai'i began to refer to as kilokilo'ole, or non-magicals.

A scenario that was to be avoided at all costs.

Knowing that his new duties as headmaster of the new academy would take up majority of his time, Pahili petitioned Kamehameha to allow him to retire from active military and advisory duties, which was met with slight resistance. The king's favorite wife Ka'ahumanu reminded the monarch of Pahili's unquestioned loyalty and urged him to grant Pahili rest. Still a bit reluctant in losing his finest captain, Kamehameha relented.

"Where will you reside?" the king wanted to know. Pahili shrugged.

"I will remain in Hawai'i, though where exactly hasn't been decided yet my king," Pahili fibbed, not willing to let the monarch know of his true plans.

"Each of you shall write your names on a piece of parchment and place it into our Ipu Kilokilo," Ke'ala continued as she gestured towards a beautifully handcrafted goblet made of varnished koa wood that stood a foot taller than she was. "When our start-of-term ceremony begins, the Ipu will decide which house you belong to. You will either be placed into the Houses of Mano, Pueo, Menehune or Kiapolo depending on which of the four the Ipu Kilokilo decides you share the most common traits."

"Keaka Akana!" the statue of the great shark boomed as the first name flew towards it and landed in their open maw once the flame was lit within the Ipu Kilokilo, signifying the beginning of the festivities. The confused and bewildered new student took a seat at the currently empty table that stretched out before the giant likeness of Mano, the house that was now his.

"Nahinu Haia!" came another call, this time from the image of a magnificent owl as it declared the first member of its own house. And so the first Sorting for Hale Ho'okalakupua 'O Hale Moaulanui went. In the end, the House of Mano claimed the most members, followed by the House of Kiapolo. Unlike the Hogwarts Houses, the four houses of this academy represented one of the four elements. The Ipu Kilokilo decided who would be placed where depending on their subconscious affinity towards one of the elements. Those who were found with a love for the ocean and for water were placed with Mano. Those who dreamed of flight and soaring within the clouds found themselves placed with Pueo. Those who possessed a love for the earth and wished to command and nurture its powers found themselves with Menehune whilst those who possessed a fiery personality and yearned to harness the power found in this particular element were pledged to Kiapolo.

Thus were the humble beginnings of Hale Ho'okalakupua 'O Pu'u Moaulanui!
