"Where the did the robots come from?" Word Woman frowned as she held Chuck up by his collar "talk!" "Woah woah woah easy easy! I-i don't know Word Woman honest!" "Ya know," Word woman guestered around herself, the chaotic mess or mustard ketchup and hot sauce splattered all over the area, robot limbs and rivets chucked everywhere and torn to pieces "somehow I don't believe you!" She yelled in a bit of an exhausted tone. Chuck coward in on himself a bit "look I know it looks bad but I'm being honest!" The sandwich man cried and grabbed his own shirt "these clothes, these bots! Some guy literally picked me off the street and gave them to me!" Word Woman frowned and gave Chuck a light shake as the sirens blared near her, making him scream "No No please I swear that's the truth!" "Won't matter if your lying. I'll find the guy who made these bots, you can count on that" Word Woman said. Hearing the car doors of the cops open behind her she turned back to them and smirked "late again Joe?" The cop just groaned at the hero and watched as she threw the large villian at them, his partner already having yhe cuffs out. "Thanks a bunch again for the help Word Woman" Word Woman shook her head and forced a smile "its what I do" she then looked up at the helicopter and waved at it, Scoops waved back and shot a wink. 'Accidentally' Scoops flipped the camera off as Word Woman took off, once his friend was oit of view he flipped the camera back on and aimed at himself "well that's it folks! Word Woman saved the dad just like she always has, put another villian away in chains. And did a damn good job reminding us all who's the monster metal crusher of the city! I've been Scoops, you've been you, now back to news 4 you!" He winked into the camera.
Tobey groaned and facepalmed at the line at the end "Scoops your just making it harder and harder to be your friend at this point" he muttered as the news flipped back to regular co anchors. As usual they too were fawning over Word Woman and her skills, whenever Word Woman appeared now a days it was followed up by some sort of commentary. Like it was some kind of evening sport to watch her fight villians. Tobey scoffed a bit and slowly got up, Omar raised a brow at him but it was Angel that spoke up "whats the matter Tobes? you dont wanna watch the after fight replay?" "yhea you love word woman, wouldnt it feel a bit nostolgic for you to watch her fight robots again?" Tobey didnt say anything, but he forced a smile "Ah- no noty really," he laughed nervously "its actually rather taxing to remember something embarresing from when you were 10 you know?" he said and quickly moved on and away from the group. Omar watching from afar as the group shrugged in understanding and went to watching the highlight reels. Couple clips.
later once the group transitioned from watching the news to watching the latest movie added to the library, Omar had made his way out and immediately was met with Tobey alone at the dnd table, intensely staring at the board. The wizard, rouge duo, warrior, and cleric all left where they were in their fight with the corn demon, their players having been summoned elsewhere to the real heroes battle. Omar softly let out a breath and walked over to Tobey, his pocket in his hands, and stood next to the younger man. "so," Omar started and got a lazy bit of a look from Tobey, who had his chin resting on his hand "think my mage will make it this time?". Tobey scoffed and looked over at said mage "...maybe" he muttered a bit despondently "depends on what his next move is.." "ah good call" Omar nodded and looked at the board. His eyes flicking between Tobey and the wizard, he pointed over to the giant corn demon further away from the wizard "i think if my wizard plays it right, i should be face to face with the big baddie, get rid of him. all the little dudes stop coming". Tobey gave a small hum...looking at the board he picked up the head demon figure "and what if this is just a distraction? get rid of him but then next turn more demons spawn" he didnt taek his eyes off the board "what if you just make everything worse? you fail and it just crumbles further around you..w-"
BOOF
Tobey almost had the wind knocked out of him, in a single movement, all the air in his body was gone from a heavy slap on the back by Omar. "The wizard is smarter than that," Omar said firmly "the trials of being a wizard are of trial and error, repeated failures. What keeps the wizard up is his support, his friends" The game master looked at Tobey, he still tried to catch his breath but Tobey didnt see the expression as sad, or angry. Didn't even look disappointed as he expected Omar's face to be in this moment. Instead, a rather stern and determined face greeted him "the wizard has his supports, no matter the weather, or the danger he will reach the end, and help save the day".
Tobey stared up at Omar in surprise. He wasnt even queit sure if they were on the same topic, yet... Tobey took in a deep breath and returned teh stern look, "Right...wizard has his supports" Omar grinned happily at that and slapped him again "there we go!" he laughed, but Tobey was doing anything but laughing as he gasped for air, "Omar stop that please!" he weezed "your pep talk hits break teh sound barrier," a squeak "and my spine.." Omar rolled his eyes "see now if you had just joined me in the gym all those years ago we could have avoided this but nooo" "oh shut up" TObey choked out. Omar snicked a bit and turned around to go to the back but did a double take. "Hey Tobes" Omar nudged "what" Tobey snapped out still trying to choke out his words and get his breath back "i deeply apologize for not believeing the tuba loving monkey" ..."im sory what?" Tobey asked and looked up, waving rfom the window, a sheepish grin on her face, was none other then Becky Botsford, returned atlast, aaand with a Tuba. Tobey watched her wave for a minute then gave Omar a smug look that just dripped 'i told you so', making Omar lean his head back in a groan "oh your never gonna let this go are you?" "uh uh..doubt Bob will either" Tobey chuckled softly and got up fom his chair, leaving Omar dumbfounded "...who the fuck is Bob?" Omar asked.
Just outside Becky gave a small sheepish laugh as she watched Tobey approach the door to the store, he gave her a very dry look for a moment. Becky pointed to the door silently with one hand, the other holding up the Tuba and looking like she was asking for Tobey to open the door. The McCallister thought for a moment, looking between teh door and Becky then shook his head no with a smirk, Becky looked offended..quickly catching on to teh game and stomped her foot on teh ground mouthing'why not?' But Tobey shrugged and looked up at the suddenly very intresting ceiling, ignoring Becky's frown and wave to get him to look at her and at the door. This little charade went on for a moment longer before Becky huffed and turned around, groaning as she looked away from teh annoying boy genious. Tobey gave a snort and then, lightly pulled the door inwards "you left me to defend a tuba playing monkey" he deadpanned as Becky realized he opened teh door and swung around "do you Know how hard it is to defend a tuba playing monkey? its hard Botsford" Becky rolled her eyes pushing her way in "extremely hard" "yes yes i know" Becky sighed "i owe you an apology later" "darn right you do" Tobey sighed. Tobey then looked behind him "hey Omar is that order in y-" the box, roughly the size of a fridge, was already at the counter before the sentence was done. Omar stood there happily and pulled out a long receipt as it printed "that would be roughly 12,034 with tax" Omar smiled sweetly "...thanks" Tobey forced out.
"...you weren't suppose to see the price.." "Oh that so?" "i-i mean, it's only a small bit of investment for our research" Tobey strained himself a little bit "mhm" "Botsford I Swear that was a one time purchase," "aaand the other times?" She asked. Tobey remained quiet, "I thought so" Becky sighed and puffed a note into her newly purchased Tuba. walking far steps ahead of Tobey as he strained to carry the heavy box of pure Metal. "b-Botsford please," Tobey strained "pouting isn't a good look on you" she paused her tooting "neither is cheap concealer yet at minimum wage I am bound to that" Tobey whimpered " Botsford please I think my arms will fall off," he begged "how intresting" was his reply and then followed up by tooting."seriously Tobey? minimum wage?" Tobey stammered "a-well don't blame me its the budget I'm working with! " "Is it the same budget that let you buy the junkyard for your projects or is this the budget you get for selling your various inventions to nasa?" Tobey glared at the sky "you are not helping in the absolute slightest you worthless excuse for a comic entitled entity as-" "ANYWAY" the narrator clapped, frankly startling both of the teenages and almost making Tobey drop his box "am I going to get that dinner date scene?" the narrator asked excitedly. Becky frowned "seriously?" "yhea narrator that's a bit creepy to ask two teenages" Tobey deadpanned
...the narrator sighed "oh come on give me a break here, watching you two is my only thing, the author isn't moving an inch to let me see what's going on in the story otherwise" "that sounds an awful lot like a you problem I'm afraid" Tobey said dryly and continued to walk "agreed" Becky nodded and tooted her tuba once more...The narrator groaned "I liked it better when they were 11..they were less mean at 11..." the narrator pouted.
Tobey struggled and strained, eventually leaning forward qnd panicked a bit, he tried to ground himself but that only made holding the box harder qnd he tipped forward about to fall but stopped himself and gave a very annoyed groan. "Alright enough of this" Tobey frowned and set the box down, quickly placing his hands on his lower back and stretched to crack it, "I am Tobey McCallister III! I will not be bested by a box and an angry assistant" hr frowned, looking like he was about to carry the box once more. Becky hanged back and just watched ready to be amused and provide the proper sad trumpet sound with her new instrument. Tobey looked like he was about to make another attempt to lift the box, but then very quickly pulled out his remote and had the backpack with arms extend out, wrapping the tenticle like arms around the box of materials and lifting it above his head. Tobey crossed his arms proudly, just to show off, he pushed another button and had the two arms duplicate and begin to juggle the box "Doctor Octopus doesn't have a thing on me" he snubbed. Becky looked rather impressed for a minute then turned around with a mocked hurt expression on her face "oh so first you give me a small payment, now you've replaced me with robot arms? i see how it is" she said and walked forward. Tobey was still smiling "yes its quiet imp- wait what excuse me?" Tobey almost dropped the box right on himself but his arms caught it as he hoisted the backpack up and chased after Becky "replace? who said a thing about replacing you?" Becky turned her nose up and away from Tobey, "you have robotic arms that can do everything now, lift objects hold tools," Tobey went to the other side of her where she snubbed her nose but she just flipped to her other side "cant compete with an robot appliance as a human now can i? Dont need little old me anymore" Tobey frowned and decided to step in front of Becky and stop her in her place. "Being cheeky isn't a good look on you Botsford" Tobey stated crossing his arms, raising a brow as Becky still looked away. Tobey bend his knees to look at her eye level "that doesn't even Work Botsford I'm at least a foot taller then you, looking to the sky isn't going to help" Becky was quiet and then just closed her eyes. "there now it does".
Tobey rolled his eyes and looked over Becky, then sighed "oh please becky just stop already, i know your not upset" "yes i am" "nooo," Tobey in a matter of fact tone while pushing his finger on Beckys nose "i already know your not because your nose isn't crinkled. You always crinkle your nose when your crossed about something"
Becky opened her mouth to speak and defend herself, but very quickly sighed and swatted off Tobeys hand from her nose "your getting harder to mess with..." she mused for a moment "stop it" "nnnnope" Tobey said and continued on the path "now come on...eh...I actually wanted to end the day early," Tobey looked ober his shoulder "my head has actually been a scramble to figure stuff out for this evening" Becky gave him a curious look, picking up speed and walking beside Tobey she studied his expression a minute "you ok?" She asked "you never end the day early...I literally had to physically pull you from your work the other day" Tobey laughed "yes Becky I'm fine" Tobey looked up at his materials and bit the inside or his mouth "I uh, just have some ideas to mull over before I run it by you" Becky scoffed "run by me? what am I your keeper? Worried you'll do something bad so you have to run it by your friendly neighborhood book worm?" Tobeys face dropped "What? No I was jus-" Becky bunped Tobey a bit "Tobey relax..." she smiled, but Tobey only returned a worried expression "sorry...it's a bad joke" Becky shook her head "what I mean is that whenever your ready your lovely assistant is waiting on the side lines to help out. Just say the word..." Tobey stared down at Becky for a moment, then smiled, looking a bit pained as he did "thank you" Becky returned the smile. Tobey looked forward for a bit, his eyes narrowing on the horizon, whenever a battle with word woman occurred you could always see it somewhere, smell it someplace, at least Tobey could, he always could.
That only made the growing rage inside him burn, those robots were untested, mere designs on a sheet of paper that were never brought to life when he was younger. They were the last robots before Titans fall, and his surrender as a villain..now they've returned from the dead and Tobey was in total darkness of where they could have come from. Tobey glanced down at Becky, she seemed to have her own train of thought going as they walked. "As your friend," Tobey started, being the first of the pair to speak and break the silence "and partner in these little projects we do..you have my word that the evil plans i had as a child are long gone..." They walked in silence for a minute before Becky turned to look at Tobey as he continued with a sharp breath "I'm, well aware of the recent fights Word Woman has had..eventually people will start to blame me for them once again and ill be outcasted by our peers once more" he gave sad chuckle "so..i understand if you wish to stop being my assistant, poor pay or otherwise..but i do want you to know. Before the metaphorical shit hits the fan..I'm not going back to villany...I'm never going back" Tobey frowned and gripped a tight fist, pressing so hard that his nails were digging into his skin, and his knuckles slowly turned paler. Tobeys rage was growing but it wasn't what he felt, this felt strong, so much so that the rage seemed like a sad puppy in comparison..what was it? Tobey didn't really have long top think on the emotion before he felt a warmth on his hand and looked down in surprise at Becky having placed one of her tanned hands over his pale sun deprived fist, glowing a bit red he looked up at her "never questioned if you were," Becky smiled "don't get too exited though McCallister. We still need to get some ice cream before either of us go home for the day" she snickered. Tobey, even though he was still red scoffed "really now? oh and i suppose I'm buying?" he asked and was tugged along walking. Becky let go of his hand, though he insinticly tried to reach for it back it was already a tad late as Becky made a fake curtsy "oh but of course a proper gentleman would usually treat the young lady to delicious frozen desert," Tobey snorted and was about to speak "buuut," Becky trailed "i suppose in this case its on the assistant's dime..generous wouldn't you say?" she asked and let the way excitedly while Tobey laughed following along "if its ice cream then i have no arguments". With that the pair made their way to the closest ice cream parlor they could find in the city.
Becky raised up the Tuba, "shall I play us a song?" "Oh God please Dont"
By the afternoon the pair had walked to the junkyard to drop off the supplies. As a gentleman, Tobey dropped Becky off at her place dispite her insisting she could have made her own way home. But being as stubborn as her, Tobey is ignored Becky's protest and got her home safely just as the sun began to set. Shortly there after he helicoptered himself to his home, with a heavy sigh Tobey rubbed his face as he walked in and just Barely managed to avoid ramming into a small bag left at the door. Tobey looked curiously at the case and slowly pushed it back with the door and flicking on the living room light. Closing and locking the door behind him Tobey narrowed his eyes at the suitcase infront of him. It wasn't out of the ordinary his mother would go off on a buisness trip and leave her bag wherever people were likely to run into it to ensure she would bring it, even less out of the ordinary that it was such a large bag but this one? This one didn't look like one of hers.
A bit of an edge to him now, Tobey slowly had his robotic arms raise up quietly from the backpack once again, still warm and radiating heat from having just been in use as a transport, Tobey gave a few unease steps toward the bag and touched it like it was a wild animal ready to bit him, unsure on whos exactly it was. Tobey looked up, gingerly removing his hand from the case he kept stepping forward and started for tge kitchen "mom?" He asked, his British accent gone the moment he stepped into the door way.
Metal arms seeming at the ready, Tobey tensed his shoulders at the response of silence "Mom? Are you home? Did you leave me with a sitter again?" He frowned, uneasy at his own question "I'm 17 now..I don't need a sitter, in case you got one anyway" he rounded the corner ready for his robot arms to swing but found nothing there...pushing forward Tobey cautiously looked around himself, now hyper-aware of everything from the frigid air of the AC going full blast, to the sound of his shoes clicking as he went from the carpeted hallway to the hard tile floor of the kitchen, he didn't smell anything other then cleaning solution. Glancing up and out of the window Tobey could see a figure sitting over by the backyard tree. Shoulders relaxing slightly Tobey still held his breath, going and opening the sliding door he called out "mom?"
Like a charm breaking a spell, Mrs McCallister jumped in her seat of the outdoor table and looked up surprised "Tobey?". Her son gave a sigh, finally relaxing qnd lowering his metal arms "in the flesh," Tobey shrugged and walked out to his mother as she too got up "why are all the lights off? And why are you out back here? You honestly scared me for a m-" Mrs McCallister threw her arms around her son, meeting his frame only up to just below his shoulder in the tight embrace and catching him off gaurd. "Uh...mom?" Tobey raised a brow, softly putting a hand on his mother's back "whats wrong? Are you ok?" "Oh Tobey..." Mrs. McCallister sniffled and pulled back, and cupped her sons face in her hands, looking up at him sadly. Ok now he's even more worried "I'm so sorry. I didn't know he was coming" when shook her head "I honestly didn't think he ever would come back..im so sorry my baby boy" Tobey's face scrunched a bit in concern "who? What are you talking about mom whats going on?" He asked pulling up "you alright?" He asked
...the sound of the sliding door closing behind him almost made Tobey spin had it not been for his mother holding him.
"Oh don't be so sentimental, of course she's fine" a suave British voice eased, Tobeys eyes went wide and he slowly turned away from his mother "she did absolutely horrible in the role of raising you...but she is overall healthy as can be"
In the door way stood a tall slender man, black suit, black white pinstripe vest, classy slacks, Shiney shoes, and faded blonde hair that was slowly turned white at the roots. The thing that sent shivers up Tobeys spine was the mans cold black eyes, nothing more then terrorfying pupils in white pools caught by stray light.
"..." Tobey scowled, and his next words almost dripped with venom, warmth that had been ever present in his voice in recent years was gone "...hello Father"
The man smiled "Hello Theodore"
Yall didn't think this was going to be an all fluff story with how the first few chapters were did you? nah this is a ride.
I would like to say that because Tobeys dad never really showed up in the show, like ever, I'm disclaiming it right now to anyone unaware of this that yes Tobeys father is also an OC of sorts. This chapter was a little slower for me to right, idk why, im assuming because of all the homeowkr i had to do prior to even typing the first sentence but its here now. Hopefully the next chapter will be a bit speedier like it has been! if not please bare with me, i will be doing this as best i can to ensure a good story.
Another thing i would like to address is yes i am aware of the spelling and grammar mistakes, as it stands now i don't have the time to go over all of them to fix this but it Will be fixed, again i ask for patience as this will also be on A03 soon. When it appears there i will be fixing the errors. Until then hope yall have a great day :D laters
