The air was cold on this winter night.

As far as the eye can see were lands draped in a layer of soft, white powder.

Winter was at full plight as the snow shined under the silver light of the moon.

But this was no cause for celebration, at least not for the land's inhabitants.

Winter is a dreadful season and everyone knew it. No one could forget, not when it comes back to remind them every year.
The cold showed no mercy to anyone, and everyone knew.
This was the truth Jack Frost knew.

And it bothers him, and has for a long time.

Even his very name was like a curse.

Said only as a warning, a bad omen, of the coming cold disaster.

But there are times where he forgets. He can forget, when he plays. He can forget when he dreams. And he can forget when he soars through the clouds.
And no matter how long his days were, the joy of flight never bored him.
And it was on this special flight that he found something new.
A small town he had never been to. Actually, could it even be considered a town if it was so small?

He watches the faint glow of a lone, distant, firelight from the clouds. The light dims until it fades to nothing. Presumably put out by someone wishing to go to sleep.

He descends slowly, watching with curiosity.
There were many homes under construction. And many of the established buildings were fairly new.
Jack's eyes came alight with excitement.

This was a very lovely opportunity to witness the growth of a little community.
It wasn't very often Jack would stumble upon a growing town, at least not from where he flew from. Though he was a little surprised at himself for finding this exciting. Nevertheless, it didn't stop him from landing in the quaint little hamlet.

There was no one around of course. But that was to be expected. Going out at a time such as this, was not preferable. No one would want to be out during a blizzard anyways.
Yes that's right, there was no one, not a single soul. There shouldn't be. Because why would there be?

But then why does it feel like eyes are upon him?

Walking through the small empty square, was no one but him and him only. He made sure of it.

He eyed his surroundings once again.
The forest that surrounds the tiny little town looked like any other.
At least, it did.

And as of right now, the forest under the dark of the night looked almost, consuming. Encompassing, and all at once the forest felt almost alive. In all the worst ways possible.

...Alive. Yet in all the wrong ways...

Not unlike himself maybe.

The wind picks up, kicking leaves up from the ground, making even him of all people feel a shiver crawl up his spine under the sudden breeze. The wind itself felt strange, and not exactly the way he was familiar with. It displayed unusual behavior than what he was used to. Like his old friend was not entirely himself...herself? Or could his friend possibly be...afraid? Determined? Or is it trying to tell him something?

Nevermind that, even the earth beneath his feet felt different. Because it was as if the moment he had stepped foot on the soft dirt, the ground itself had greeted him.

In fact, it felt like the forest itself had greeted him.
Like a nice,
warm...
"Welcome."

The trees croaked and swayed, the sounds of the forest combining together in one unit. Forming the illusion of a voice that shouldn't even exist.
Terror.
And yet despite himself, he couldn't fight the urge to smile.
This..is going to be fun.

This was a little idea I had a while ago. I don't think I'll make it a series, but I still wanted to share what little I did write about it.
If you want me to continue, (i still doubt i would) Share your thoughts!
