STRAWBERRY MEMORIES- ICHIGO NO KIOKU
Chapter VII
"Atlas"
Disclaimer: I do not own Death note.
Nothing better reveals a man's character than his way of behaving when he has power over the others.

"Now you are free to act on your own Megumi chan, good job."
"Are you sure you don't want to give me any advice?"
"Why should I?"
"In case I get into any sort of trouble ..."
"No problem, I'm able to solve everything, for now avoid talking to me at university, because Light could notice it."
L walked away from the class with his usual weird walk, everyone looked at him stunned, wondering how it was possible that one of the two brightest university's student, whom had taken the maximum at the entrance test, never listen during lessons and it was also permitted to him from the teachers to not to bring with him any book.
Misa stood looking at him until he turned around the corner, then sighing she walked to the opposite side.
She still did not know how L managed to drag her into his decisions with such ease, she hoped so much that with Light it would not be the same thing, also because while L was the champion of justice, Light was an unscrupulous executioner.
Behind that nice guy mask there was an executioner ready to eliminate whoever get in his way..
And she Misa, one of her greatest admirers, was already stuck in his way and if she hadn't come off very soon she would probably crushed by him.
Although there was an anknown force, a thread that pulled her from the chest, a thread that pushed her to do what L said.
She would have liked to save Light so much, she knew he wasn't a bad person, that all he did was clean up the world, but when she was with L all her messed feelings took a precise order and suddenly the bloody eyes of Light appeared to her, his pen, the coldness with which he always killed a man without blinking an eye.
Light reminded her of Atlas, the titan who had allied himself with is father Cronus against Zeus attacking the Olympus, and whom Zeus himself punished by forcing him to hold the entire celestial vault on his shoulders. At first she was sure that Kira's choice was dictated entirely by his free will, that he had put the world on his shoulders as if it were a particularly heavy backpack, but now she was no longer so sure of it, she had a bad feeling about it, like if behind everything there were multiple forces and that she and Kira himself were just pawns of a bigger plan...
After all, why would a death's god like Ryuuk have to listen to a human and let him clean up the world, what had pushed him to make the ideal of a simple earthling come true, to make him his equal?
Certainly the gods didn't even know what an ideal was ...
So what was his purpose?
Mere fun?
And what would this macabre game have lead to?
Didn't the equilibrium, that had ruled the world till now, would break?
Of course killing a criminal was less serious than killing an innocent, but now that she thought about it even if Kira had killed them all and the world had become a peaceful place: without wars, without corruption, without egoism, when he ... Kira himself would die of old age or something else who would take care of the world?
Would he have elected a successor?
But who told him that this person would be strong enough to hold on to that power too great for a simple Earthman, as he has done?
Who will assure him that the successor would not lose his mind and would not simply become a bloodthirsty dictator, a real God with the obligation to be mortal?
Surely sooner or later that notebook would had fallen into the wrong hands and the earth would had become a real chaos, after all even Kira himself could have gone mad once all the obstacles had been eliminated.
If politicians lose their heads because of power and money, what would have happened to a simple but brilliant university's student, a little too cold and computerized, with no friends at his side?
Maybe that's why L appreciated Light's mind and ideals but not his methods ...
Misa realized a reasoning perfectly as the young detective had always reasoned. Maybe she had come to the conclusion of his reasoning, even if now she could not wait to find out more about the one who killed the murderer of her parents and to know if he was already thirsty for power or if his soul had not yet been stained from the impure blood of all the criminals he had killed.
It's not sure that if you kill without getting your hands dirty, you will go unpunished ... certainly something inside you will crack ... you will certainly not be the same even if neither you nor the others notice anything.
All this made her shiver, wondered if she had been able to kill a person, to look unscrupulously into the eyes of the one who would investigate her, to not to feel the slightest sense of guilt because was a criminal's death, to not have nightmares ...
"Hey Megumi chan!" the one to whom her mind had been turned in the last ten minutes appeared with his fresh eighteen years old's face.
Misa wondered how it was possible that he had such a relaxed face when people all over the world pronuncied his name with satisfaction or hatred, she also wondered how he managed to not take a satisfied or evil grin in both cases.
"Hi Light kun!"
"So how's the first day after my repetitions going?" he asked smiling with a wink.
"Very well! I feel smarter and I assure you it isn't simple." Misa answered with a broad smile.
"I think you look a very smart person even without glasses." the boy then continued looking at her seriously.
"Ahahaha what a nice joke Light Kun!"
"I was serious." the boy's eyes mated for a moment with the bloody ones Misa had imagined just before.
Without being able to control it, a shiver ran down her spine.
"Anyway, I'm here to ask you if our date on saturday was confirmed."
Light continued, smiling, there was no trace of the malevolent glitter.
"Of course! Why should I have changed my mind? " Light smiled.
"Ok then, I'll call you, now I have to go I'm already late ..."
"Am I indiscreet if I ask you where are you going?" Asked the model sincerely curious.
"No, actually it's not something important at all, a student challenged me to play tennis ... but I'll win for sure." he answered satisfied.
"You are very self-confident Light Kun!"
"If I weren't, I wouldn't be able to get anywhere. Who surrender is a loser. "
"Then I can come to see you?"
The girl asked, ignoring (in part) the last sentence.
"Of course, I'm going to change my clothes first, wait for me in the stands."
"Ok." Misa watched him go and then let out a sigh.
"For now I am calm only because L is there to keep an eye on you, but when the both of them no longer need you, what will happen?" Rem declared appearing behind the girl.
"We will think about that in due course Rem ..."
The sun was very warm despite the spring had just begun, Misa was in the stands with her elbows resting on the cold metal and her hair slightly moved by the wind.
That wait was beginning to be unnerving, by now she had outlined with her eyes the edges of the red field too many times and the excessive light would certainly have reddened her delicate skin, but when she saw the locker room door open she certainly would never have expected that thick raven hair and those circled eyes that she liked so much.
"Surprise ..." Rem whispered annoyed, Misa jumped up levering her thin arms on the iron bar.
"It won't be that ... no impossible, he isn't athletic at all..."
She whispered, fuss and ignoring Rem as always.
If everything was a strange coincidence and L was not going to play against Kira in person, Misa would have felt very pressured, also because being the only one in the stands it was obvious that she had been invited by Light.
Maybe L had come just to keep an eye on her ...
In fact he was dressed like every day ...
But immediately afterwards the door opened again and an athletic Light came out fully equipped and dressed, he even had the bottle of water in his hand and the towel on his shoulders, he looked like a professional player.
Both of them headed for the field.
«What the hell? But no ... certainly L will referee. "
Misa stared impatiently at the locker room door but did not open, while the two of them had already started playing.
Misa could not believe her eyes, not only was the first time she saw someone playing in jeans and with a long-sleeved T-shirt but L was not a bad player at all, on the contrary ... he matched Light's skills without problems.
"Hey, you're seriously playing Ryuga!"
Suddenly Kira exclaimed with a smile.
"Whoever takes the initiative wins." The detective answered.
In a short time the stands had filled up, even the principal had given up hunting them because they were not allowed to play, but he had started to talk happily with the university coach that with them in the team, this would certainly have climbed the university's national rankings.
Misa, however, did not listen to those two and certainly not even the screams of the girls cheering for Light.
Apparently only Misa had noticed how attractive even L could be as he moved so easily without spilling even a drop of sweat ...
But what fascinated her most was his gaze, those defiant eyes that he gave only to his worst enemy, the only one who could ever equal him.
The girl also moved her gaze to Light and noticed that the whole face only his eyes were expressive.
They were reasoning this was for sure.
Indeed maybe they were just playing, L maybe wanted to know more about the student through a game ...
But then something extraordinary happened, after about an hour they fought relentlessly Misa noticed a different look from Light, she could not catch what he thought, the only thing she knew was that the boy won.
She saw L smile.
Had he calculated it?
Both the brilliant boys ignored any proposal from the coach but while L made his way to university, Light joined Misa smiling.
"Seen? I'm unbeatable! "
A few drops of sweat wet his forehead and his eyes laughed sincerely.
"I saw it Light Kun! You're a real champion, but I was already sure! of it."
The girl replied hopping.
"I certainly gained a few more points for Saturday, right?"
"There was no need ..."
"About Saturday, I'll meet you at the station at 5 o'clock, okay?"
"Perfect! So see you soon Light Kun! "
"See you soon Megumi, ah just call me Light ..."
"Ok then, see you soon Light!"
Misa was too upset for all the events of those days and the only thing that could bring her up at that moment were: a face rinse and a revitalized make up.
Once finished she looked in the mirror horrified by the cheeks lit by the sun, she had really been a fool to have left her face powder at home ... even if she usually didn't need it ...
"Then?"
A male voice rang in the bathroom making Misa frightened, while the beauty-case dropped on the ground.
"Hey, are you mad? You were making me die of fright! And what are you doing here ?! If you haven't noticed, this is the women's bathroom!"
L didn't change his expression at all.
"Aye, I noticed, but I'm pretty sure that whom we are spying would never enter the women's bathroom ..."
"Other women do, though!" The model replied, crossing her arms.
"Yes, but the other women are not Kira and consequently I don't care if they see me here..."
"You're going to be considered a pervert."
"There is already a rumor that I am so, wich paradoxically facilitates my coverage."
Answered L with a grin. Misa as usual thought that at times he seem to be even stranger than he appears.
"Anyway, if I come here is to tell you something serious, you decided to collaborate with me, pardon but this are my methods. You're going out with Light on Saturday , right? "
"Er aye though ..."
"Perfect." He interrupted her, handling in the pockets of his jeans "keep these microphones in your jacket or wherever you want, it's important that he doesn't notice anything, so don't take off your clothes."
"Hey what makes you think that I may do such a thing..."
"Just in case, nothing is ever excluded by me. However, you will also have this headset. " He answered seriously, handing her that little black gadget.
"I'll give you some advice in case something goes wrong, otherwise it's your time to act now."
"Got it, thank you very much!"
"Then see you on Saturday Megumi chan." The boy whispered going towards the exit.
"See you, perverted sir." Misa answered laughing.
