The following day Yanina found herself at the request board. She had asked the Master if it was alright for her to go on a job by herself and he had gave her consent. For the last two weeks she was going on jobs with others, usually with Cana, or she went with Team Shadowgear. Sometimes plus Gajeel, so she had gotten to know the surely dragon slayer over the coarse of the jobs.
She had been on the hunt for an easy bandit capturing job when someone stepped up at the board beside her. Blinking, she turned to see a pale blue-haired male who was slightly taller than her. His stark golden eyes scanned the job board and she can't help but think she's seen him before. Sometime in her past.
It took the male a moment to realize someone else was standing there with her. Glancing over to his right his eyes widened slightly as he cleared his throat. "Forgive me, I didn't see you," he apologized, bowing his head slightly in respect. That made Yanina's eyes raise in surprise. "You're the new girl everyone's talking about, right? Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Yagil Kafni," he shot his hand out to shake hers, and she stared at it for a few moments. That name sounded familiar too.
Shaking her head she shook his hand, feeling a jolt of electricity enter her body as she did so. "Yanina Maraz," she greeted before taking her hand back. There was something about him that seemed off.
"Yanina..." He murmured, as if deep in thought. "Well it was nice meeting you Yanina Maraz. Hope you love it here." He gave her a tight smile before snatching a job off the board. She didn't even think he glanced at it before marching over to where Mira was, telling her he was taking the job in his hand.
Well that was odd, she thought with a frown. She sniffed her arm, shaking her head. Maybe that was just Fairy Tail's dynamic? It seemed to have a lot of odd-balls in here, but that was the oddest interaction she's had by far.
Shaking her head she turned her attention back onto the board. Plucking a job that seemed promising she glossed over the contents. Basically the same bandit jobs she took in the past, although this one offered a lot more jewel than her last requests usually do. She figured that was just the nature of being in a popular guild.
With a hum of satisfaction she walked over to Mirajane, who was busy cleaning a mug and chatting with a blond male she hadn't met before. Though she does remember seeing him sitting on the top floor with several other members of the guild. "Hey Mira, I want to go on this job!" She called over to the barmaid, who glanced over to the plant mage once she heard her name. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything," she gave the platinum blond a smile, glancing over to the burly blond at the bar who just gave her a leveling look.
Mirajane beamed. "No, not at all! Did the Master clear you for going by yourself?"
Yanina nodded her head. "He told me I could go this morning when I came in," she stated before turning her attention to the male. "Sorry I do not believe we've met. I'm Yanina Maraz, I joined the guild a few weeks ago?"
The blue-eyed blond eyed her for a few moments, as if giving her a once over. "Laxus Dreyar," he introduced himself before turning towards Mirajane. "I'll let Gramps know what you said, Mirajane." And without a second word he stood up and walked back up to where his teammates were sitting.
Mirajane rolled her eyes at the man. "Don't mind him," she waved a dismissive hand, giving Yanina a small smile, "Laxus has some anxiety when it comes to new people. Though you didn't hear that from me," she winked, causing Yanina to giggle at her attitude. There was just something about Mirajane that was captivating. She had that personality that brought people in.
"You're going on a job, Nina?!" A familiar voice called out, causing the girl to turn her head to see a pink haired boy race over to her. Happy wasn't too far behind him as he landed on her head, pouting about something. "I want to come! Let me come!" Natsu pleaded, his eyes going big.
"Natsu," Yanina sighed, reaching to grab Happy and pulling the Exceed into her arms. She began scratching the Exceeds head, hearing the blue cat purr in bliss. "I want to go on this job by myself. To get the ropes. I've been going on jobs with members from the guild since I got here and while that's nice, I'm used to going on jobs by myself. Besides that I heard you have a reputation for destroying things." She eyed the dragon slayer cautiously, that being the main reason that she didn't want him to come with her. She wanted to get ahead so that she would be prepared for rent in the upcoming months. 50,000 Jewel wouldn't be hard to get from jobs, but she also wanted to know that she had enough money for groceries, and other necessities and even things that she didn't really need to do but wanted to do.
Natsu just whined at the accusation, but Mirajane giggled. "It is true that you tend to go a bit overboard," the take-over mage chastised. "You know that's the reason Gray and Lucy sometimes go on jobs by themselves." Yanina raised an eyebrow at that confession. That was new information. She hadn't realized Team Natsu split up on jobs sometimes, they seemed so close to the hip.
"But I want to go on a job with Nina!" Natsu pouted, "everyone else got too!" That was true. Yanina had gone on jobs with a lot of different members of the guild, all wanting to get to know her or know what her magic was like. She's been on jobs with Team Shadowgear a lot, and even met Gajeel. Went on a few jobs with Wendy and Romeo. With Cana being her new roommate they were unofficial teammates as well. Even went on a few with the girls, which had been a pleasant experience.
Yanina thought about it for a moment before sighing. "Alright fine, you can come. No destroying anything! I'm doing this job to get ahead on my finances," the plant mage warned, though she wasn't sure the Fire Dragon Slayer heard her as he whooped at being able to go on the job. "I guess Natsu's coming too," Yanina sighed as she turned to Mirajane, who was giggling at the exchange.
"Natsu does have that affect on people," Mirajane smiled warmly, though there was a glint in her eye that Yanina couldn't place. It freaked her out a little bit, if she was being honest. "Now Natsu, you better behave," Mirajane turned towards the fire breather, who stopped celebrating at the tone of the take-over mages voice. "If I hear that you destroyed something your punishment won't be pleasant." She stated as sweetly as she could, though Yanina shivered when she heard the sweet venom in her voice.
Clearing his throat nervously Natsu bobbed his head up and down, eyes wide in fear. Good boy. "If you're coming lets go," Yanina made a motion with her head for the fire-head to follow. That made the dragon slayer perk up as he followed her, making Yanina roll her eyes at his childish behavior. Although it didn't take long for the dragon slayer to become a pathetic mess as they made their way onto the train.
"He's always this way on movig vehicles..." Happy informed the girl sadly, watching his partner crumble into a sad heapless dragon slayer. He was curled into himself, whimpering about the pain in his stomach.
"Is there anything that can help?" Yanina asked with a frown. She wondered if this happened with all dragon slayers. The motion sickness.
Happy's eyes glinted with glee when a thought struck him. "Well... Lucy used to let him lay his head on her lap... and that helped him on trains..." The Exceed stated sweetly, his eyes wide as saucers. He was using his innocent factor, and he tried not to grin when he saw her wince.
"On my lap?" She echoed with a frown, turning to look at the dragon slayer. He did look pretty pathetic, Yanina thought with a sigh. "Come on Natsu," if it would help she had no problem letting the dragon slayer lay his head on her lap.
She tried hard not to blush when he used her lap like a pillow. Happy was curled into her side, purring innocently as if he wasn't a gremlin in disguise. Though Yanina tried to get comfortable, combing her fingers through Natsu's soft salmon pink hair. To her amazement it did seem to help, and this was better than him being a crumbled mess on the floor of their room.
Though what she didn't know was this was the start of something. The red strings of fate working together and making the two become a force to be reckoned with. All with the little push from a blue-haired demon.
