STRAWBERRY MEMORIES- ICHIGO NO KIOKU

CHAPTER XIII

"Ichigo no Kaori"

I do not own Death Note.

During those days Misa Misa was bored to tears, and although Eru chan had openly told her not to leave the apartment, she had absolutely not listened his advices and she wandered freely on the upper floors (on the other hand she had Rem as a spy which helped her to not to meet anyone).

Two days had passed since the last L's visit and Misa had basked between the apartment and the corridors without even having the opportunity to do some healthy amount of shopping. Luckily everything had happened to her during her vacation month from modelling, so getting out of there wasn't necessary.

From what Watari had told her, L was working night and day with the team to reconstruct the killing's history of the FBI agents and he also said to her that the collaboration with Light had continued to deteriorate more and more.

Misa's absence from the university had been justified with a ready-made medical certificate and no one had asked about her.

Nobody, not even Light.

Misa thought that he would be suspicious, and every now and then she was afraid that some gesture, some tone of voice, some look of her had been picked up by Kira and that he had discovered her. But then she thought that, if it were so, she would already be dead.

And then there was L that wouldn't never allowed it, or at least was what she hoped.

Maybe Light had not called her because the suspicions had grown more and more in those days after the Shinjuku's events...

but who did she think she was kidding?!

She was only an excuse for him, a mere alibi, nothing more.

And what was her to L?

Wasn't her a means to him too?

And if all went well, what would become of her?

And what if everything went wrong? What if Light killed L?

No! She would not allow it, Kira could kill all the criminals in the world, as far as she was concerned, but could not touch L ... L was good and kind and righteous!

Even if she had been a pawn of both, however she did not care, she had made that choice on her own free will and everything that would have happened would have been only under her own responsibility and will.

Someone knocked on the door.

Misa listlessly got up from her armchair and looked at the clock, it wasn't time for dinner, she had said explicitly that she didn't want a waiter in the hours that didn't include meals ...

"It's me"

Misa gasped, there been two days since she heard his voice.

She headed to the door and opened it.

"Good evening Misa chan."

The raven-haired boy entered barefoot and with his hands in his pockets as always.

"Eru chan! This is this not the way to behave... Misa hasn't seen you in two days! How dare you imprison me here and then disappear? "

L bent his head to the side.

"Did you miss me?"

Misa immediately felt her cheeks burn and pushed him looking at the ground, so as not to be seen embarrassed by him.

"What are you saying?! Misa was simply bored and annoyed by Eru chan's inhospitality!"

She replied, as she headed towards her favourite sofa, quite tense.

"Watari was there to keep you company ... and the waitresses too."

The impassive boy replied, sitting in his own way in front of the girl.

"When you're not at work, you might not even crouch like this!"

She yelled at him trying to change the subject.

"You don't have to solve a case!"

"Misa Misa is always a case to be solved."

He declared smiling slightly.

"No Eru is a case to be solved! A clinical case!"

The model replied, crossing her arms under her breast.

"You really surprised me Misa chan, I didn't think bad words like "clinic" were included in your vocabulary."

The detective muttered, touching his chin amused.

"Misa's vocabulary is complete, it is Eru chan's one which is scarce of terms like ... let's see ...: slippers, comb, shoes, tactful and good manners with the young ladies."

She spelled out to him as she was enumerating the long list of terms for each finger of her hand.

L looked at his feet impassively.

"I don't like shoes."

He replied as if it were obvious.

"I'd gathered that Eru chan."

Misa smiled amused.

"I feel uncomfortable, closed."

He went on as if she hadn't even answered him.

"In my opinion yours it's just an excuse to not to go out."

Misa replied laughing.

"It's not at all, I only have a lot of work to do, like catching Kira, I mean..."

"Speaking of which, you dullard!"

Misa shouted suddenly, making the poor L jump.

"You managed to change the subject! But Misa Misa was saying that she got bored here the past two days, I couldn't go to university and at this rate even Light may have got suspicious!"

L looked at her seriously.

"You can be quite assured that Light is too busy trying to get rid of the suspicions himself. The fact that he was in that department store on the day of Ray Penber's and all the FBI agent's deaths is not without consequences, even if he was there to buy you flowers. But we now know for sure that to Kira it is enough to know the names of those who he wants to kill, and you told me that Light knew the name of Rey Penber. At this point we only need the evidence."

Misa thought that if she hadn't revealed to L soon about the notebook and about the shinigami things, an empiricist like him would never have get to the truth. How could Eru get to think of the Shinigami?

"Anyway, I'm here because you have to go back to work Misa chan."

L began saying looking at her with satisfaction. Misa, for her part, became even more annoyed.

"Oh yes?! Did you come here just because I have to go back to your service?! What about our friendship Eru chan? "

L pressed his thumb to his lower lip, as he did when he came to big conclusions, and smiled imperceptibly.

"As I thought, you missed me very much."

Misa punched him in the arm, and she closed herself in her bedroom.

"If you want to use me, come back when you want to see Misa chan too!"

He sighed exhausted.

«I don't understand what I did wrong. I thought you were having fun trying to catch Kira with me. Anyway, I'll be back tonight, now I have to go."

Misa remained behind the door sitting on the ground. She was angry. Is it possible that no one would care to spend time with her?

L instead, was outside the apartment, his shoulders still leaning against the door and his eyes straight ahead, his hands strictly in his pocket. He was thinking about how dangerous it was for him to be sentimentally close to a girl, even though that girl was Misa. But it was too late to think of it, he should have thought about it before, instead of approached her at university immediately after he have recognized her.

He had been an egoist to involved her to get her closer to him because she was his first friend. The young detective messed up his raven hair energetically and with a slight push he detached himself from the door and then headed for the elevator. Misa was toxic to him and he had to go back to work.

The model had an early dinner that evening and was entertained by Rem, who as a good friend told her about Light's moves outside the headquarters. By now she knew everything about him: how he killed Reye Penber, how he got the list of names and how he killed Reye's girlfriend Naomi Misora. Light was becoming ruthless, now he was able to kill innocent women without resentment. Misa began to think that he was moving further and further away from the ideal of justice that he had set himself and all of this was beginning to frighten her a lot. Rem had said that Ryuk still hadn't uttered a word about them to Kira and that he didn't know in the least that she had a notebook. Despite this, the fact that Kira could find out about the notebook and that she had exchanged her eyes terrified her, not so much for her safety but for the fact that he could have forced her to kill L.

As she was thinking about these things, she prepared a nice hot bath. She needed to relax a little before working on the Kira case with L.

"Misa!"

The voice of her shinigami came muffled to her in the steamy bathroom.

"Tell me Rem, I was almost falling asleep..."

"You must hurry up, it is already 10:00 p.m."

Misa snorted annoyed, she would have liked to stay in there the whole night, even if then she would have filled herself with horrible wrinkles. She got up from the tub and dried herself, then put on her countless body creams, which is why she had the smoothest and most perfumed skin of Japan.

She left the bathroom with a small towel around her body and with her hair wet, then she was going upstairs, towards her bedroom, when a ticking sound coming from the living room made her scream and ran to hold her chest with her hand, where the heart pounded without break.

On the sofa, in the center of the room, a very quiet L was eating an enormous ice cream sitting crouched as usual.

The boy, at the sound of the scream, fell ruinously from the sofa, getting his entire shirt dirty with ice cream.

"Why on earth did you scream like that, Misa chan? Since when do I scare you? "

The young man complained as he stood to get up and while massaged his head covered with dark hair but stopped, completely stunned, when he saw the model completely naked and that was dripping in the center of the living room.

Misa, for her part, only screamed more and became mighty red in the face.

"Turn around immediately Eru chan !"

She shouted trying to cover herself with her arms as much as possible.

"Wasn't me who had an aversion to clothing Misa chan? I have a bathrobe unlike you, you know? "

Misa got immediately angry at the boy's insinuation.

"Do you really think that this is the time to discuss who has the bathrobe or not? Either way, Misa Misa has it! Simply when she putt on her body creams, she have to wait for them to dry before to dress up! By the way, why do I have to justify myself with someone who never wears shoes?!"

L, totally ignoring the girl's protests, headed toward the bathroom, taking off his shirt covered whit ice-cream. Misa became the same color as the beautiful bordeau walls.

"And now what are you planning on doing Eru chan?!"

She shouted throwing the first object she managed to reach with her small hands.

"To clean the shirt, Misa. You really have strange thoughts on your mind. I wonder if you have already imagined such a situation, otherwise your reaction would not be clear."

The detective replied, scratching his head slightly, but suddenly he stopped and went back to the girl.

"What are your intentions now?" Misa asked him with her arms still around her chest.

The boy came up to her neck and sniffed it.

"Do you use a strawberry cream Misa chan?"

He asked amused, so he headed for the bathroom.

Misa was very ashamed of his discovery and she tried to lie.

"Of course, the best brands use strawberry as flavour!"

She screamed scrutinizing the detective's back, who was intent on cleaning the shirt, but immediately blushed as soon as she realized that Eru was not bad at all, on the contrary ... he had a hint of abdominal and pectoral muscles too, his arms were well defined even if thin, he had broad shoulders and narrow hips too, and...

"Who is the voyeur now?"

L asked, looking at her amused by the mirror with his dark eyes.

Misa blushed, caught in the wrong and, thinking it was enough for that day, she ran away, hoping that Rem would write her name soon on the death note so as not to face the embarrassment of seeing the detective's face again.

"Wait below, I'm going to call you when I'll be ready to work Eru chan!"

30 minutes later they were both in Misa's bedroom intent on looking at the computer monitor. Thank goodness L had pretended nothing and now they were been working seriously.

"We have to find that dossier full of FBI's names, otherwise we won't go anywhere."

"Kira had surely get rid of it."

Misa answered looking at him.

"We still have to try, that's why you have to go out with Light again, but this time you have to be able to enter his room so that you can search among his things, I will watch you from the cameras so if you will be in danger I'll can intervene."

Misa shivered and the thoughts of that evening came back to her. L figured out about her fears and touched her shoulder.

"If you don't feel up to it, you have to tell me Misa."

She smiled back at him to reassure him and shook his hand with hers.

"No. I'll go, count on me!"
