STRAWBERRY MEMORIES- ICHIGO NO KIOKU
Chapter XIV
Strawberries are better than oranges
I do not own Death Note.
The next morning Misa got ready to go to university. That day she had to be able to bring Light closer together. The fact that L would not come with her made her so worried.
"You could not have accepted L's proposal."
Rem's voice reached her like a truck.
"We both knew that by choosing to follow L sooner or later I would have to betray Light ... the truth is that doing it is very different from thinking or planning about it."
Misa admitted heartily.
"Rem, please, if I'll go to Light's house today you won't be able to follow me. We must try in all ways to prevent his shinigami from finding out the truth about me. "
"Don't worry, Misa, I'll stay away as long as it allows me to monitor you."
Having said that, Misa left her apartment. It was very early so nobody was at the headquarters. Surely L was the only one already at work. Not caring about his warnings, she took the elevator and pressed the button that led to the first floor. When she opened the door of the large monitor room she saw him from behind, bent over many papers.
"Eru chan, aren't you having breakfast?" she asked laughing "don't you know that eating between meals makes you fat?"
L spun around.
"Misa you know very well that you shouldn't go down here."
Misa rocked on her feet pretending naively and went over to the detective.
"So early in the morning nobody is going to found out me being here, only a madman like Eru chan can already be at work at 7:00 a.m."
The boy turned to the papers, as he shook disconsolate his head.
"You're going to college I guess, Misa."
"Yup! I came here just to find out if you have any last tips to give me, for example do you think I am dressed well? I think that inviting a girl home isn't Light kun's top priority and I thought I should be as attractive as possible ... »
She ended up saying doing a pirouette. She had put on a mini, mini, denim skirt, a light pink T-shirt, a leather coat and black ankle boots. L noticed that she had untied her hair and made it wavy.
"Misa is a model and asks me if it is okay how she should dress up?"
He asked in a tone no more accommodating than before, Misa noticed a different note as a slight annoyance.
"Well since Eru chan doesn't care about girls if even he likes how I'm dressed, Light will like it too!"
She asserted totally sure of what she was saying.
L turned back to the young model, this time he seemed clearly annoyed.
"And what makes you think I'm not interested in girls, Misa?"
Misa suddenly blushed not knowing how to get by after such a blunder.
"No, that is, I meant that Eru chan always thinks about work and the little free time he has, he dedicates it to sweets ..."
"And to Misa," he interrupted her with a stern frown, "which is a girl, I mean, so how about it?"
Misa swelled her cheeks, annoyed.
"Of course, because Misa is Eru chan's friend! It has nothing to do with girls or dates at all, otherwise Eru chan would have asked her to go out at least once and instead he never did!"
L bent his head as he couldn't understand something, as always.
"Would you like to go out with me Misa chan?"
He asked completely amazed, pointing himself with the index finger.
"I didn't mean that either!"
She screamed, crossing her arms around her chest and heading for the exit.
"See you when I get back from Light's house then! See you later!"
L smiled to himself.
"Misa?"
He called her before she could go out.
"Mhh?"
She replied, her hand firmly on the handle.
"You look perfect and if you like, later, we can have ice cream together."
Misa smiled at him and jumped happily.
"Hurray! I managed to get you out of here! And remember to put on shoes, I recommend! See you later!"
Having said that, she went out.
L smiled to himself again, thinking how difficult it was to have to deal with a girl and realizing that he too was looking forward to having an ice cream with her. The most surprising thing was that he was happier for the date with Misa than for the ice cream itself.
Arrived at the university Misa was prepared for the meeting with Light, hoping that it should not happen too soon. A week had passed since she had moved to headquarters and she had lost a lot of lessons, she practically could not understand even a word of what the teacher was saying. While scribbling distractedly on her notebook, she looked a few lines ahead of the large classroom to look for Light. After a while probing with her eyes, she saw that he was talking to a short-haired girl. Well, actually, it was she who was speaking to him, while he seemed to respond absent-mindedly and with mild kindness. The bell rang and Misa got up suddenly to be able to reach Light before he could leave the classroom. So, she waited for the girl to disappear, then she approached him.
"Light Kun!"
The young man turned to her and smiled in surprise; Misa glimpsed a glint in his eyes.
"Megumi chan what a surprise, you disappeared after the last time we met!"
Misa looked down pretending to be sorry.
"Unfortunately, I had a bad flu that forced me to bed for a week. And because of it I lost a lot of lessons, so I am very backward!"
Light continued to smile at her.
"I can give you my notes, if you want, I am sure that if you study them you will not seem to have lost a single day."
Misa jumped and took his arm smiling.
"Thank you very much Light kun, you are very kind as always! What can I do to repay myself?"
Light seemed to think about it for a moment.
"Would you like to go out together again this afternoon, maybe after class?"
Misa suddenly blushed; she did not expect it would be so simple. Who knows what he had to cover this time? She didn't know why but she had a bad feeling about it.
"Of course!"
She replied, smiling as much as she could.
"Great," he replied, "then as soon as we finish lessons, we can go to my house together, so I can help with your study too."
After the lessons, Light waited for her outside the University, as promised.
"Let's take a ride downtown, would you like to?"
He asked in his usual gentle manner.
Misa smiled at him and nodded.
They took the bus and headed for central Tokyo. As they strolled, Light became more serious and stopped in a secluded place.
"Listen Megumi, I've been looking for you for a while, but then you suddenly disappeared, and I didn't have a chance anymore to ask you something I've meaning for."
Misa felt her heart skip a beat, the unpleasant sensation that she had from before increased more and more.
"Tell me Light!" she replied in a slightly high-pitched voice, suddenly regretted not having L's microphones with her. That time they had entrusted themselves entirely to the cameras at the Yagami's house, but this time she didn't even know if she would be able to get into it.
"From the first time I saw you I thought you looked familiar, and a few days after our date I noticed in my sister's magazine a girl that look alike you, I know it may seem absurd but I want to be sure who I'm going out with ... I did some research and the girl in the magazine is called Misa Amane and she is a 19 years old model."
Misa felt the earth failing under her feet and she was already beginning to wonder how she could get away this time.
"You know, Megumi, my dad is a policeman and he's working on the Kira case, I wouldn't want to bring home someone who was hired as an actor to spy on my family..."
Light had a decidedly terrifying look.
Misa burst into loud laughter, hoping that Kira would not know the tricks of her acting career.
"Here you are, you got me Light kun," began saying the model holding her belly "I'm not Megumi Kurenai, my name is Misa Amane and I'm a famous model and actress. However, it is not what you think! I changed my name and all of it because after two years from graduation I decided that I want to have a higher education than the usual models and therefore I enrolled in college. You can just imagine, however, the problem of a famous person who starts attending a public place ... so I changed my name and put on eyeglasses, so nobody could recognize me. Nobody except you apparently ... "
Light smiled at her more relaxed.
"Wow a model, what did I do to deserve to date a girl like you?"
The boy asked in a way far too humble for his usual.
"Well, Light kun you are a pretty handsome guy, but above all what I like the most about you is your determination and your incredible intelligence, you are definitely out of the ordinary Light."
She replied approaching him and placing a hand on his arm with flattery.
"You know what Misa? I got tired of being around, how about going to my place? There is nobody in my house and I can't wait to know each other better in a quieter place."
Misa blushed brightly and nodded happily. She thought that she had finally succeeded, but in spite of everything she was still worried that he might find out the truth.
Two buses later and the metro they were in front of Light's house, finally Misa was under the protective gaze of L who watched her from the cameras together with the whole anti-crime team.
"Here we are at last," said Light, sitting on his bed. "Come here, Misa."
Misa thought that L should be stunned to hear how Light had just called her. Without thinking twice, she settled down next to him, leaning with her forearms on the bed to be more comfortable.
"You know, Misa, when I looked up information about you on the internet I found out that the last year you lost your parents during a robbery, I'm so sorry…it must have been hard for you."
Misa felt stabbed in the heart and she never wanted to talk about it there with him, yet she had to continue acting and he certainly gave her the perfect excuse to act.
"Yes, Light, it was horrible. For a year I haven't been the same. Between inconclusive courts and nightmares, I thought I would never be able to take back my life. For this, you know, I decided to enrol in college. I thought that changing the environment could help me to move forward, plus I decided to study law to get closer to the justice and its mechanisms. Yet justice for me was unable to do anything and after a short while those terrible criminals ended up on the loose ... at least until, and I'm not ashamed to say it, my hero Kira killed them all. I won't hide from you that, that was the best day of my life Light. "
She concluded looking him straight in the eye. She saw very well how her words affected him looking at his gaze, a gaze that was showing itself by its true nature: the gleam of pride and greatness had lit in his irises and she could see too a half smile in his lips.
Light put a hand on her cheek like a consoling caress and she leaned against him.
"You know what, Light? I'd love to meet him…"
"Who Misa?"
He asked kindly.
"Kira."
She replied looking him straight in the eye.
"I'm sure it would be better not to, Misa. Although he is a hero in your eyes, he is still a criminal who kills in cold blood other criminals. A girl like you shouldn't hang out with men like him."
Misa smiled at him thinking how clever he was to demonize Kira, especially knowing that L was listening to him.
"And who am I supposed to hang out with Light kun?"
She asked, looking at him with malice.
"Me, for example."
He replied approaching her face with a grin on his lips and starting to kiss her, first slowly and then with more fervour. Misa responded to the kiss knowing that the whole team, including her L, were watching her. Still, she could not take any wrong steps, if she had withdrawn abruptly, Light would certainly have been suspicious. The boy got on top of her and began to kiss and fondle her neck with his lips, then he put a hand under her light T-shirt until he reached her breast, while with the other hand he was exploring her smooth and soft legs . Misa let out a sigh of pleasure, mentally cursing herself for the side of herself she was showing to her Eru. Not wanting to be too passive, she too put her small hands under Light's shirt, caressing his abs and back, she felt the boy approve her attentions and in a short time both were shirtless cling to one another in the bed. But then Light put his hand under her skirt trying to reach the light pink lace briefs that Misa wore that day. The girl suddenly blushed more for the cameras than for the situation itself, in fact, it wouldn't be the first time she slept with someone, but she certainly was not willing to do it in front of everyone. Apparently Light, on the other hand, won't mind, perhaps even to seem completely a normal boy to others, or perhaps to make sure that he did not know about the cameras. However, Misa stopped him gently.
"Light kun ..."
She sighed in his ears blocking his hand lightly.
The boy looked her in the eyes, feignedly sorry.
"Misa sorry I didn't want to rush things too much, I got caught up in the moment, I think, I hope you will forgive me..."
Misa sat up on the bed slightly embarrassed and shook her head smiling.
"No, excuse me instead, Light! I got caught up too, but it's a bit early and I wouldn't want Light kun to think that I'm that kind of girl even if I'm a model."
Light stroked his face with fake kindness.
"I would never think of such a thing about you! Anyway, I've been acting rude, I didn't even offer you something to drink. Wait for me here, I'll go downstairs to the kitchen. "
Misa smiled happily.
"Oh, thank you, I actually got a little thirsty after ..."
She replied laughing and tightening his throat.
"Perfect then, wait here!"
He replied, going downstairs.
Misa took a sigh of relief and put her shirt back on. Finally, she was left alone in his room. She looked around the bedroom, it seemed to be the normal room of a teenager, a bit monotonous perhaps, but certainly normal. She went to the desk to scan the papers scattered over there and looked at the drawers, the notebook could be hidden there ... it was a discounted place and the place where an investigator would go looking for last. Misa then looked under the bed first but found nothing, not even a little dust. There was some hentai magazine under the pillow, the model smiled to herself, it was certainly another ruse of Light. Quickly scouring the room, she decided to finally open the drawer but just before she was able to touch the handle Rem's voice reached her from behind her shoulders.
"Stop Misa!"
The model winced, Rem was not supposed to be there, Ryuk would surely have noticed.
"Don't answer me, otherwise L would see you talking alone."
Rem went on saying in an apprehensive voice, Misa then nodded slightly.
"You don't have to open those drawers, there is a mechanism that sets everything on fire, including the death note, if someone starts browsing inside."
Misa asked no questions and simply walked away from the desk and sat back on the boy's bed. Immediately after, Light returned to his room with two large glasses, he looked like a non-alcoholic aperitif.
"Here Misa, I hope you like orange soda."
The boy said, offering her the glass.
Misa hated the orange taste, it was bitter. Not like the strawberry.
"Of course, Light kun, I love it!"
