Prologue: Dark Fox
The man watched as a young woman inserted a needle into Patient 64's neck. The redhead didn't fight; after all, this woman wasn't the traitor her master had ordered her to kill the first chance she had. The woman removed the needle and left. The red-haired girl sensed the machinery in the other room get louder as it scanned her rapidly changing vitals. About an hour later they quieted down, at the same time she heard a whisper. It wasn't saying any actual words, more like a soft rustle. Either way, she somehow understood it. She smiled, thinking of it as a permanent companion on whatever missions her master chose to give her, though she didn't expect to hear from it much once they finished experimenting on her, knowing perfectly well that all the best survivors were immediately put on ice, to keep them healthy without needing as many nutrients.
A few days later, her master himself entered. She lit up at the sight of him, tossing her long hair over her shoulder when she saw the syringe in his hand. He injected the substance into her bloodstream and left only to return a moment later with a chair. He sat down and the two talked about various things for the next few hours. While talking about what her first mission would be once the experiments were complete, she felt something on her head and lower back. She broke off in the middle of her sentence and instead said, "Do I have animal ears and a tail?"
"You do indeed." Her master replied. "Specifically, those of a fox."Wide-eyed, the redhead attempted to move her new ears and blinked at how they felt when they did so. Her master smiled before leaving. The next few weeks she spent getting used to her new limbs. And finally, it was time for her first mission. The traitor entered her room at the same time as They entered the building.
AN: I didn't intend for the prologue to be this long, but I enjoyed writing it and I hope you guys enjoy reading it. However I don't know when I will post the first chapter. Also, this story is technically the sequel to another fanfic I'm writing, and the second fanfic to a series I'm also writing, although it can be read as a story on its own. And this story is not yet beta-read. Please R & R, it makes me write faster.
