Living in the Highlands
Lady Countryrose
Ch. 1
It was the night of October 31st of 1981. The Potter Cottage and there was a hole on its second floor. Severus Snape had broken down, with his beloved dead friend in his arms. He had warned Albus Dumbledore about Lord Voldemort's attack on the family.
After the cold chill made its way to his heart. Severus decided to take young Harry Potter with him. Taking him to Hogwarts, where he would face the headmaster. He went over to the crib and wrapped Harry into his arms. With a wave of his wand, he packed everything for him in a bag.
He closed his eyes, turned on the spot, and then was at the gates of the massive castle. Another wave of his wand, he summoned his doe.
"Professor McGonagall, this is Severus Snape. I am at the gates with Harry Potter. I need your help." After seeing the doe rush off, Harry started to whimper.
"Now, now. It's not the time to act up, Mr. Potter." His smooth baritone voice vibrated. "You will be alright."
A few minutes passed, before the elder woman came to the gates. "Severus, what has happened?"
"The Potters are dead, Minerva," he stated simply.
The woman whimpered, but allowed the two to enter. Making their way towards the castle. Then up the stairs and into the headmaster's office.
"Severus," Albus looked at him with a surprised look in his eyes. Then down to the small boy. "Why do you have young Harry?"
Severus settled Harry down on the floor. Where the boy turned over and fell asleep. "They are dead, Albus."
The elder man nodded his head. "As it was prophesied."
Minerva glared at the headmaster with a heated glare. "I beg your pardon! What prophesy?"
Albus sighed, but explained what he was talking about. "Harry was destined to end Voldemort."
"He is a little boy," she cried out. "Not a piece of meat," she growled.
"I will arrange for him to be moved to Lily's sister's home…"
"No," Severus shook his head. "She was awful with Lily, when we were kids. She hates magic. I would hate to see how she would raise him."
"Alright," Albus sat back in his chair with a heated glare. "You will raise him," he growled out.
"I…," stuttered Severus. Looking very uncomfortable about the outcome. "Albus!"
"Do it for Lily," the headmaster glared at him. "You don't want anyone else to raise him, do you? Lily would know that you'll protect him." His lips pulled back into a smirk.
Minerva glared at the aging man. "I will raise him, as well."
Albus sighed, "He will still be Harry Potter," he informed them.
"As it should be," stated Severus.
Minerva nodded her head. "I am Gram or grandma."
Severus rolled his eyes. "I am no more than Uncle Sev."
Albus looked at the two of them. "Where would he live?"
"At my family manor, Albus." She spoke hotly at the elder man, with righteous anger in her eyes. "It is quite large, for just me there."
Severus turned towards the transfiguration professor in wonder. "Where is that, Minerva?"
She smirked, "Island of Skye." She then waved for Severus to pick up Harry, then led them to the fireplace. "McGonagall Manor on Skye," just as she threw the floo powder down and was gone.
Severus had taken a deep breath. Holding onto Harry, just as Albus called out, "There is no going back, Severus."
He turned to face the aging man. "I don't imagine that I will, Albus." Before he called out the address, and he was gone as well.
