Chapter 11
Dorothy opened the door and saw prince Edward.
"Edward," said Dorothy. "What are you doing here?"
"I just wanted to check to see if you're alright" replied Edward softly.
"I'm fine," replied Dorothy. "I just don't think I should've come down to the ball."
"Why not?" asked Edward in surprise.
"You belong with lady Bethany," said Dorothy. "She's an aristocrat, I'm a servant. She might've been alright with you dancing with me at the party, but you're getting married to her."
"Bethany and I are getting married," said Edward. "But I've liked getting to know you, these past couple days."
Dorothy gave a small smile.
"Come on," said Edward. "I wanna show you something."
Edward took Dorothy down the hall on the first floor. Edward showed a painting of king Bakari and queen Rosalie. Rosalie was holding a baby.
"That's king Bakari and queen Rosalie with their first-born son, king Harold I" explained Edward. "Both of them were commoners too, but they built this nation and became rulers."
Dorothy had known the story of Dove's Isle, but she had never thought about commoners and aristocracy getting together.
"I've never seen the crown jewels" sighed Dorothy.
"I'll show you," said Edward.
Edward took Dorothy to the basement of the castle and unlocked a door. The two walked inside.
"My parents were the crowns to formal events," explained. "When King Bakari and queen Rosalie were crowned, the priest had their crowns made of gold and diamonds."
Dorothy then saw a crown she had never seen before. It was a circular crown with diamonds in the shapes of leaves and flowers.
"That's the princess crown," explained Edward. "Jewelers made it king Harold the first's wife queen Alexandra. They married on easter weekend in 1821, and ever since, when the prince marries, the princess wears it when she's coronated princess."
"And on Saturday lady Bethany will be wearing it," said Dorothy. "She'll look so beautiful with it along with the wedding dress she chooses."
Edward nodded, but then looked away from Dorothy.
"I hope to see you at the wedding," he said. "In the pink dress you wore to the ball."
"I'll be there" said Dorothy smiling.
Author's note; Dorothy doesn't know that it'll be her wearing the crown instead of Bethany, doesn't she? Edward is starting to realize that he loves Dorothy. Will he propose to Dorothy in time?
