"Catch me if you can, Cat!" I call over my shoulder, the wind tossing away my words. Cat and I are playing a game of chase on the rooftops of Paris, and I laugh with joy as he goes down on all fours thinking he'll be faster this way. Bring! The sudden ringing of my bug phone causes me to skid to a stop, and pick up. I really hope its not akuma. "Hello, Ladybug. Its Leo," the voice on the other end says.
Leo owns a cheese and coffee shop here in Paris, and is one of my favorite people with and without a mask. He's always up for a good chat with Cat Noir and I. "I wanted to let you know I have a couple of new items: A crème orange frappe, and a orange cranberry muffin." I grin. "Are you sure its not a offer just to see us? I know its been awhile."
Still, the warmth of the setting sun has sent me sweating, as well as the game of chase with Cat. "I'll be there shortly," I say, hanging up. Orange is everywhere today, in food and drink, and now in the sunset a ball of orange retiring to bed for the night.
"Gotcha!" Cat catches me from behind, and wraps his arms around my waist, and I squeal happily. I feel a joy to have him as a partner and best friend, a ladybug couldn't ask for better. "Who was that on the phone?" Cat asks, his beautiful breath caressing my cheek warmly. "Leo. He wants us to try some new items. You up for it?" I ask, stepping out of his arms, and playfully cross mine. "Or are you not up to a challenge?" Cat's green eyes gleam with determination. "Did you know, Bugaboo? Fun is my middle name." "Cat Fun Noir? Even Bugaboo sounds more normal." "I thought you liked my nickname for you." I tug at his tail playfully. "Stop worrying, fur ball." "Oh, I know I'll love Leo's new treats. Its you, M'lady, I'm worried about."
I stop one the sidewalk. "Me?" "Yes, you'll probably slurp down mine as well. I know how you love your coffee." I walk up to Cat, and he gulps as I back him against the wall. "First of all, I love you more, and what is this that I have a coffee addiction?" Holding his hands, you can see Cat's face turning red beneath his mask. "I don't want you, mad, M'lady." "Oh, I'm not mad. I'm having lots of fun." Cat meows. "I'm not. I'm scared." I lean to kiss him gently. "Is that better?" I ask, when we've broken apart. "Much."
We continue down the sidewalk, hand in hand. "Hey, M'lady?" Cat sings, and I know he's up to something. "Yes, Kitty?" "Orange you glad we're friends?" "Ohhh," I groan. How did I not see that one coming? "Hey, freedom of expression," he grins at me.
A scent of warm chocolate and roasted beans wafts through the air, and we're in front of Leo's. Cat opens the door for me with a slight bow. "After you, M'lady." I giggle as I walk through the door, batting my lashes at him. "Such a gentleman." "No, just a Cat Noir, ma'am. Otherwise known as M'lady's lovable fur ball." I laugh. "Tell me that's your Twitter handle," I joke. Cat picks up his tail. "Um." "Oh, Cat. Hello, Leo."
Leo smiles at the two of us. "How are the two lovebirds of Paris today?" Before I can respond, Cat groans. "Don't mention birds! Ever since the public found out I pounced on a bird by accident the other day, all they've been sending pictures of is birdhouses and birds with the hashtag This Is Bird Next For Cat Noir?" "Well, there are no feathers in my new drink, Cat. I make you one right now, but first you two, try these orange and cranberry muffins."
I bite into mine, and its the perfect blend of cranberries and orange zest. "So good," I murmur. "Your table manners aren't Bugaboo. Whoever taught you manners?" Cat grins as he slides me a napkin. He sighs, I snort and begin to laugh, spraying him all over with crumbs.
The drink is perfect, cold and creamy, perfect for a hot summer day. I drink deeply, then feel eyes resting upon my face. Green eyes. "So, tell me I was right," Cat says. I blush. "about the coffee?" "Yep." "You were right," I grumble, then whack him on the shoulder.
We have to get going soon after, but its been a wonderful day, filled with orange colors. After doing my homework for the night, I work on some sketches and yes, you guessed it, I used orange crayons and markers!
I write a little poem to Cat Noir.
"We meet when the orange sun says goodnight to Paris, but we superheroes are saying hello.
In the dark of night, we patrol and fight.
When the sky turns orange again,
we say goodbye,
but will meet up again when the sky turns orange once again.
P. S. Orange you glad I love you? From your delightful Bugaboo.
-Ladybug
Feeling a bit devious and not being tired, I hop on Twitter and see if what Cat was saying earlier was true. Sure enough, fans are still sending him bird pics, and even I send a few. I giggle as I send one of Big Bird from my Ladybug account.
A DM pops up from Cat a moment later. "I know that's you, M'lady, and your going color blind!" "Hey, the feet and beak count!" "Prepare to be pounced on!" "ooh, scary!" We joke back and forth a few more minutes and then say goodnight.
Cat really is the best friend I could ever have, always knowing how to put a smile on my face. Its been a orange day, full of fun and oranges, and I couldn't ask for better. Oranges were everywhere today, now whenever I see a orange, I will think fondly of Cat Noir.
