Day 6: Yellow Bellied: Cowardly, lacking courage.
Summary: Zoey is too scared to admit she has feelings for Cody.
Author's Note: And now we dive into AU territory. This takes place in a High School universe, TD doesn't happen here.
Zoey ate from her ice cream bowl as she heard Cody and Gwen speaking, the three of them were having ice cream to celebrate another year of Wawanakwa High ending, while Zoey did enjoy the company of some of her classmates, she had to admit it was annoying at times.
She stared at Cody a little, and blushed. Ever since he's gotten over Gwen and joined their friend group, he found a way to become her crush, she enjoyed how kind he was even to people like Heather and Sierra, she also found him funny, and she felt she could relate to him a lot.
The thing is however, she's never told him this.
How could she? Cody hasn't really shown any sort of attraction to her, and she did not want to ruin that friendship she had with him.
"Zoey?" Cody asked.
"Huh? What?" Zoey swallowed her ice cream.
"Sorry, you were spacing out, something on your mind?" Cody said.
"Oh, nothing Cody." Zoey blushed which she hoped Gwen and Cody wouldn't notice, Cody didn't seem to notice but Gwen raised an eyebrow.
Thankfully after a while Gwen did leave the table due to a call she got from Duncan about their date, so she didn't have to question Zoey's blush although she had a feeling Gwen already knew, she seemed to have better social cues than Cody.
"Hey Zoey, I don't mean to sound weird but how come you were spacing out earlier, you normally don't do that, you were also blushing a bit too." Cody began speaking with concern.
Zoey was practically trapped in a metaphorical corner, she didn't know how she would get out of this one as she couldn't come up with a reasonable lie.
"Alright Cody, just please promise me that if I tell you this, you won't hate me." Zoey said, as she wanted some reassurance before she spoke to Cody.
"Unless you committed some heinous crime, I doubt I can hate you." Cody said.
While a bit odd to say, it seemed entirely accurate and reassuring so she knew what to say.
"I… have a crush on you. Ever since you've become my friend and stopped with your advances towards Gwen you've shown me the real you and I really liked that, a lot." Zoey explained, "You probably don't feel the same way but I figured I should tell you."
Cody looked shocked at this which Zoey expected but she hoped she would get a good reaction out of him.
"Actually Zoey. I feel the same way." Cody admitted with a chuckle which made the redhead widen her eyes, she did not expect that.
"While I did have a thing for Gwen, after hanging out with you more I started to see you in a better light. Basically your positivity, kindness, understanding, and determination drew me into you. So… maybe we could try dating if that's okay with you." Cody confessed.
Zoey smiled brightly at that, "I'd like that."
Author's Note: The prompt never said that the character couldn't overcome their fears. You're welcome.
