Friend x Enemy x Beacon

Many would consider searching information in a library an old-fashioned and very ineffective method, but for Kurapika, it was terapheutic. Beyond the precise information he could find in books, he also could learn social cues and norms reading, which was exactly why he was in the library in the first place. Waking up outside the Black Whale was strange enough, but learning that people he saw dying were now alive, had him out for a loop.

This was not his room, he couldn't even feel the ship shifting in the water, was he even in the ship? It was impossible, last time he confirmed, they were days away from any landmass. Standing from his bed he took his surroundings in, it was a small room, full of posters titled 'The Melodyas' and others with what seemed to be cartoons, a shelf full of books, many being about social studies, and a window, looking through it, he saw a city, many buildings and cars, confirming his suspicion, he was nowhere near the Black Whale. Luckily, he saw a laptop on the writing desk, turning it on, it asked for no password, but had his full name in it. Going through the documents in the micro, he found nothing but what looked like college work and some games, however, everything had his name on it, and he couldn't for life remember ever owning or doing something like this. Well, the hunter site is a very reliable information source, if anything, just a bit pricey, opening the search engine and typing, Kurapika again was lost, no relevant results. Again and again, typing different keywords, he couldn't find anything related to the Hunter Association, as it never existed.

What he assumed was his phone started ringing, and, without putting any thought, he picked up:

"Hi dear, are you better? Yesterday you said you were feeling off the weather."

It shouldn't be….. possible, this voice, the sweet and homely voice that appeared in many of his nightmares, the voice of his mom. Trembling, with tears staining his eyes, he mumbled:

"M-mom? Are you fine?"

"Of course dear! And you, are you fine?"

"Yes mom, better than ever, I am kinda busy, can we call later?" Kurapika said, smiling like an idiot.

"Ok honey, I forgot that you are already in college, don't forget to come visit this weekend, bye bye my little adventurer, be well, love you very much."

"Bye mom, I love you very much too."

'All could be a trap' the logical part of Kurapika's brain told him, but deep down, his gut and instincts told him it was true, his family was alive. Going to the wardrobe, he changed to a discreet casual garb, realizing that all that clothing would fit him. Wait, was that a skirt?

Soon after he was here at the library, studying about this new place, wondering how he could go back, no, if he should go back. He had his family alive and well, he was strong enough to protect them this time, what he had before? 'True friends' was the answer that came to him, would he abandon his old friends for something he wasn't even sure was real, would he really leave them forever? His selfishness wanted his family back, like it wanted revenge, over his own life, but, he wouldn't, no, he couldn't leave them behind like this, he knew he didn't deserve them…. Did he deserve this second change then? Simply give up his revenge quest, let the ones who bought his clan's eyes keep them, after all he had given up? These questions kept eating Kurapika alive, first of all he needed to understand the place he was in, then decide if he deserved peace in his life again.
Meanwhile, a shadowy figure approached him, sitting in front of him. They used a big jacket, their faces hooded. "Chain Bastard, I couldn't ever imagine finding you here."
Kurapika then snapped his attention to this person, his chains ready, and his body tense, ready for a fight.

"Chrollo Lucilfer, are you responsible for this?!" Kurapika's chain was between them, detecting any lie that the spider might tell.

"Unfortunately, I am as lost as you must be, though, it's a fortunate coincidence that we found each other, maybe we can find more of us, people lost." For Kurapika's chagrin, all said by the head spider was the absolute truth. Observing Chrollo's relaxed posture, he could tell it was a ruse, one move and he would be ready to fight, ge probably could've attacked Kurapika when he was unaware, having an advantage if he wanted to kill him. Both maintained an impassive face, showing no emotion nor intention, having concluded that the man in front of him, at least for now, had no bad motivations, Kurapika said:

"I will trust you for now, but if you give me any indication that you're a threat, I will kill you."

"I didn't expect anything less, now what have you discovered?"
.

"Are you sure Killua? I think Aunt Mito will get angry at me if she finds out."

"Don't worry Gon, I won't tell, but neither should you, we never went to school before, missing just a few days doesn't matter. Besides, we escaped math, your brain won't fry today."

"Guh…. Yeah I guess you're right. Where should we go then?"

"I was thinking about a dumping ground," Killua shuddered. "But then I decided it would attract too much attention if we 'came back' from school smeling. So I decided the best would be the middle of the forest."

Nodding, both boys went running, being almost untraceable by standard eyes, above the buildings. After a few minutes of running, they came to a creek in the middle of the forest, so far from the city they could barely hear any civilisation sound.

"So first of all we should try our basics, we don't know if changing worlds had any impact on our Nen." Killua said. While both could still easily feel aura, when they tried to use Ten, a terrible realization came to them.

"Our aura nodules aren't open!" Gon observed. "And we don't know anyone with aura to open them for us."

"Don't forget Gon that there was another way to unlock our aura." Sitting down, Killua closed his eyes."Let's meditate, remember what master Wing said, we can open our aura nodules by feeling them."

"Osu!" It was a slow but surely process, in no time the boys were overflowing with Nen. Firstly they used Ten, containing aura around their bodies. 'No problem here' Killua thought. They tested their Zetsu, playing hide'n'seek, tested their Ren, and finally, used their Hatsu.

"First comes rock! Jan, Ken, Gu!" A loud crack was heard, then the tree fell down. However, Killua could tell, it was much weaker than it used to be.

"Gon, what happened to your Nen?" Of course, the 'travel' could've caused this, but it didn't make any sense, none of the other principles had a problem, no….'His Ren was unsteady'.

"Ever since Pitou I… My Nen hasn't been the same, it is much better, but… Ging told me I needed to hunt for something to get back to normal." Said Gon, looking ashamed, doesn't matter how Killua forgave Gon, he still felt guilty, even more after growing and looking back, realizing how much he had hurted his best friend, and how their friendship hadn't been the same after.

"I see…..Then let's find what you desire to hunt, you helped me realize what I wanted, as your friend I will do the same." Cheesy, he knew, but he wanted to put that part of their past behind, both had grown up and matured.

"Thank you Killua! I am really glad I have you as my best friend!" Despite the repeated words, the white haired boy could tell how much meaning they carried, and, turning to his friend, he gave one of his most genuine smiles yet.

"Anyway…. Did you discover anything useful or interesting? This 'universe' is being really boring!"

"Yesterday I went to the streets at night, but nothing really different, wait actually, I saw some people who I followed, but then…" Killua felt a pang in his head, a very familiar one. "I don't think they knew I was following them, but it is like I can't think about them."

"Like your brother's control?"

"Yes, but it's not Nen! Probably I could just remember something because I am slightly used to mental manipulation, but it's not much, I can't remember."

"Huh, tough. I looked in Aunt Mito's computer yesterday too, though I couldn't find anything useful ..." Whining, Gon fell to the ground. He was so bored! All the animals in the florest didn't show to be as intelligent as they were in Whale Island, magical beasts were just legends, and they had school with lots of math! Stopping and thinking for a minute, his mind clicked.

"Killua! The time! If we take too long to come back people will search for us and discover that we skipped school!"
"Ugh, dammit!" Both boys started to run, unfortunately Killua hadn't charged, so his Godspeed wasn't accessible.

Soon, the young hunters were in front of Gon's place, waiting for Killua's driver to come to pick him up. Not long after, a limousine stopped near them, wishing gon goodbye, Killua hopped in, leaving Gon alone, going in his home, his Aunt asked:

"Good afternoon Gon! How was school today?

Gulping, Gon looked at his Aunt's eyes:

"I….I….I didn't go to school! Sorry!" Unsurprisingly, Gon couldn't use his computer that night.
.

The drive home was peaceful, because it was the first week of school, classes were only going until lunch, giving Killua light days for this week. Eventually reaching home, Killua went to lunch with his brothers and sister. Illumi started:

"How was your school today Kil?"

Taking a moment to finish chewing, Killua answered:

"Fine, nothing new yet, they're just remembering stuff, nothing that I don't know already." It may be a new universe but math, chemistry, physics didn't suddenly change. History and geography were the only problems, however, studying about this new place would make Killua really good, so, no worries there. To take away the attention direct at him, he asked Milluki:

"And you Milluki, how is the new year of college going?" Even then, this attracted unwanted attention to himself. His siblings, even some buttleres, were looking his way, with a face that spoke very loudly 'did he just do that?'. 'Was I really that antisocial here?!' Killua wondered, every new piece of information about his old self making him more revolted.

"Well, yes!" After recovering, Milluki answered. "Today I was studying some modern mechanics…."

The lunch went well, Killua had to refrain himself from speaking more to not cause more suspicion, mainly because his older brothers were much more interesting. Not only about assassination anymore, but Illumi had hobbies! Friends, histories, and much more than just being a controlling maniac, he even had a fiance. Milluki still talked about Vtubers and popular e-girl stuff, but he also played more video games, had an active social life. Also, it seemed like he wasn't as jealous of him as the other one was, though Killua could feel how Milluki still had a certain dislike for his young brother.

Walking back to his room, Killua heard giggling. Unconsciously smiling, Killua followed the sound, while many of his familiars seemed to judge him, he could never feel a malicious stare from his only sister. Independently of the universe, the white haired boy would love his sister to the death, maybe their relationship before wasn't that good, he really didn't know, but he would find out. Turning a few corridors, he was starting to get his way through this giant mansion, he finally found his sister's room. Gently knocking, to his surprise, it was Kalluto who opened the door.

"Hello big brother. What brings you here?"

Well, that was awkward. He wasn't really close to the younger brother of the family, thinking again, it was an opportunity to get close to him.

"Hi Kalluto, I was really bored, so I decided to come here to play with Alluka." Killua said, acting smug. In reality, he was trying to act like his other one, would act. Kinda cringe, yes, did it work? Yes.

"I see. Well then, I should get going." Not many would be able to detect the sadness in Kalluto's tone, but Killua was especially sharp for that.

"You don't need to go. We all can play together, right?"

"Really?!" Gaped Kalluto, incapable of hiding his surprise. Going inside the room without waiting for his little brother's answer, in a heartbeat Kalluto followed his brother, 'You are acting strange again…..' the changes in his brother's different demeanor not going unnoticed.

"Big brother! We are going to play again today?"

"Yes Alluka! But Kalluto will be with us this time." Killua said, patting his sister.

"Yay!"

Playing with his younger siblings, Killua couldn't help but feel guilty, mainly because of his brother. Since his family was so disfuncional, he never had a close, well actually, something that resembled a relationship with younger brother. Also, he couldn't get rid of the feeling of abandoning his original world sister, still, he would give attention and love to his siblings, as he felt the family had failed him. He would not fail them, he decided.

Realizing dinner time was coming, the younger Zoldycks went to the dining room together, making a few of the butlers give Killua questioning stares, which he ignored. Reaching there, they sat. Not long after, the whole family started to get there, even Killua's grandfather, whom Killua had not seen after coming to this different world.

"Illumi is bringing his fiance, isn't that right?" His grandfather asked no one in particular.

And no one needed to answer, as the eldest sibling came, but not alone. Killua gulped. 'No, it can't be!'. By Illumi's side, there was the one and only, Hisoka. Killua's guts went haywire, something telling him this was dangerous. 'It's not like he would be from the other universe?' Totally logical, but he felt it wasn't true.
As this wasn't enough of a problem, an oppressive presence made itself known. Like a beacon of Nen, Killua recognised the presence, one he never thought he would ever feel again. Netero was here too, probably trying to call for anyone like him, that moved worlds. A big headache, that was surely coming for Killua.
