"I'm not five, I can melt off the side of a skyscraper!" Scott yelled at Logan who ignored him as they exited the jet after a mission. Scott did not take it well and got in his face, Unfortunately, he would have to stop now. Scott was pissed, he could tell despite the fact that he couldn't see his eyes, usually the most expressive part of the face.
"I did my job," Logan said wrapping his arms around each other, not at all sorry. If Scott wanted to be mad at him about then so be it. Scott pushed his chest slightly to make his point more than anything else, but if Scott would have tried that a year ago, they probably would be having another type of fight on their hands.
"Your job is to fight them, not prevent me from fighting them." Same difference really, especially if they were talking about his job as a boyfriend, which Logan was but Scott probably wasn't.
"I did my job." Logan simply repeated. Logan repeated but also grabbed the front of Scott's uniform. He noticed out of the corner of his eyes the rest of the team moving towards the entrance to the school, leaving the two of them behind. They were used to the two of them fighting. Scott gripped him tighter pulling the two of them even closer. He could see from his lips curled and the way his nostrils flared how mad he was and yet Logan still wasn't sorry and he couldn't pretend to be. He wanted to kiss him, kiss his soft lips, but he knew right now that would just make his boyfriend angrier, so he would have to put it off for a while. Scott shook him slightly for emphasis, it didn't hurt. It wasn't rough.
"I am a trained fighter," Scott said, voice softer than he expected, throwing him off a little bit which is maybe why he admitted aloud.
"I know." He knew Scott had trained for years. Knew he could hold his own in a fight. Even if he couldn't use his ability, he could take down most people just with his body. It wasn't about Scott being lacking in any way. It was just...he didn't like Scott being in danger. At all.
He wished that he could keep him safe at all times, everywhere, and anywhere. He couldn't, humans and other mutants were always attacking them or each other and it was their job to keep , especially the humans, safe. An often dangerous job, full of injuries that Scott and the others couldn't just heal from in minutes, unlike him.
Considering what had happened to Jean, the event that had eventually drawn them to each other, he was sometimes worried. Scott seemed a little surprised that Logan had admitted it. He gripped his uniform a little closer and while Logan couldn't see his eyes it looked like Scott was trying to search his face to try and find something there.
Sometimes, Logan hated that he couldn't do the same, that the visor/sunglasses prevented him from seeing his eyes, prevented him from seeing them narrow or widen, or his eyes crinkle when he laughed. But it did make him pay more attention to his lips and body language and try his best to decipher the micro expression he did see, with mixed results.
"You know?" He left the 'then why?' Part unsaid. Logan sighed, he was never very good at the talking part of this thing, and if he had been better before he wouldn't know. Logan nodded, of course, he knew.
"Yeah, I know. Even before I liked you I knew," Scott smiled slightly, seemingly despite himself at the reminder of their rivalry. Their rivalry had only turned into something else after Jean had died and they both realized that the other understood, to a degree, how they felt. " You were always a hero." The first time he met him he had rescued Rouge and thought that he had rescued him, he was definitely a hero, even before Logan had joined up with them.
"I heal, you don't," Logan spoke after a long moment of silence. Scott tightened his grip for a moment then loosened it but still held on.
"Jean?" He asked softly and Logan knew what he meant by that. Was he worried that he would lose him, like they had lost Jean? Logan nodded, unable to vocalize, though his fear was actually worse. He hadn't actually been with Jean, just liked her; it was different from the actual relationship he now has. Scott sighed again and all the fight seemed to melt off of him. The shorter man pressed his forehead against his chin.
" I would never willingly leave you," At least he didn't lie, say that it wouldn't happen. With being mutants, doing what they did, it was always an option. Just the thought made him feel like swallowed marbles that just sat in his gut weighing him down with dread and doom.
"But it's not always your choice," Logan spoke in a fierce whisper. as he wrapped his arms around him holding him tight.
"No, it's not," Scott admitted softly, "But that doesn't mean we give in." Logan closed his eyes and after a long moment nodded. They weren't ones to give in. Scott moved his arms so that they were around his neck instead and pressed his soft lips against his. Logan deepened the kiss kissing back just as fiercely and letting go of some of the weight he felt. As much weight as he could get rid of anyway. They stayed like that for several moments before Logan pulled away breathing hard. As soon as he caught his breath, he spoke.
"We don't give in?"
"We don't give in," Scott confirmed grabbing his hand and pulling him towards the door. Logan followed.
