Chapter 1: One Little Snap.
"Mister Stark!" I heard a familiar voice yell my name. I turned my head to see someone I hadn't seen in 5 years.
Peter. I thought, my eyes widened, and I felt my them start to water. He landed next to me, and we fought the guy I was fighting together. Peter used his webs to stick him to the floor and then I blasted him across the battlefield.
"Holy cow," Peter started, taking his mask off. I took my mask off too. "You will not believe what's going on," he said. "So remember when we were in space, and I got all dusty, and I must have passed out, because I woke up and you were gone," Peter rambled. "Doctor Strange was there right, and he was like "it's been 5 years. They need us." he laughed, lowering his voice to do an impression of Doctor Strange. I stopped listening to him, and started reliving the worst moment of my life.
Peter grabbed my hand and pulled me up after our fight with Thanos. He smiled, and I ruffled my hand through his curly brown hair.
"Somethings happening," someone said behind me. Me and Peter turned around to see Mantis. She then suddenly turned to ash. Everyone's eyes widened in horror.
Thanos has done it. I thought. We didn't win.
I looked at Peter, and I had never seen him look that scared before. His baby brown eyes were wide in horror, he was shaking like crazy, and his lips were trembling. I looked back towards the remaining members of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
"Quill," Drax whispered, looking down, watching his arm disappear. He then turned completely into ash. I look at Quill, and slowly walk away from Peter, and towards Quill.
"Stay Quill," I demanded.
"Aww man," Quill sighed, turning into ash.
"Tony," I heard someone say my name behind me. I turned to face Doctor Strange who was sitting on a piece of rubble. "There was no other way," Strange said sadly. He also turned into ash. More than half of us had disappeared. It was now only me, Nebula, and Peter. I whipped my head in the direction of Peter, and I could tell something was off, by the look on his face.
"Mister Stark," he said. "I don't feel so good," he stuttered shakily. He wrapped his arms around his stomach.
"You're alright," I said annoyed. I didn't have time for Peter right now. We had just watched 4 people die, I didn't have time for his drama. But I wasn't ready to admit that something was more than wrong with Peter. He looked down at his hand in confusion, and then a look of pain danced across his face. He was stumbling around, it looked like he couldn't stand properly. I put my hands out to steady him.
"I don't, I don't know what's happening," he told me, in a very panicked voice. He started stumbling towards me. "I don't know what's-" he said painfully, I saw his legs give out, and he tripped in my direction.
"Hey, hey," I yelled, catching him in my arms. He locked his arms around me for support. He was holding me so tight I thought I was going to be sick. He was clutching onto me like he would die if he let go. I could feel his panicked breaths against my neck. That's when I figured it out, and apparently he did too.
"I don't want to go," he pleaded. He was sobbing, his voice breaking. I felt something inside of me shatter, at these words. He was slowly turning to ash. "I don't want to go. Mister Stark please," he begged. I then realized that he was only a kid. Peter was supposed to be safe. He shouldn't even be here. He should be on a field trip, laughing with his friends, and spending time with his aunt. He should be smiling, not crying, and begging for his life. It broke me to know that he was begging me to not let him die, and there was nothing I could do about it. "Please, I don't want to go, I don't want to go," he cried, pleading. Peter kept squeezing me harder and harder, trying to hold me tighter, and to numb the pain. I had no idea what to do other than squeeze him tighter as well. Every second I just got sadder and sadder, as I watched him slowly disappear. My legs finally couldn't support my weight anymore, after all my injuries, so I collapsed to the ground as gently as my legs would allow, still cradling Peter.
Peter looked more peaceful than before, but his shaky and unsteady breaths made it worse for me. I could tell he was really struggling to breathe. His eyes told me that. They were dark, and showed so much pain. I couldn't believe this was the cheerful Peter that I know. I felt my heart shatter when I heard Peter's breaths start to slow, and he whispered something to me.
"I'm sorry," Peter apologized. I could tell when I looked in his eyes he was apologizing to me for all the pain he would cause me later on. I grabbed at him, to hold on to him even tighter, but I felt my hands touch the cold, hard, ground, of the planet. My eyes were filled with tears so I couldn't see very well. I felt around for the heat of Peter's body but all I ended up finding was ash, so much ash, Peter's ash. I started sobbing, and let out a blood curling, anguished scream when I realized my life would never be the same again.
Peter kept rambling on about Strange, moving his fingers in circles, as he intimidated Doctor Strange. "And then he started doing the yellow sparkly thing-". I interrupted him, with a hug. I felt a tear roll down my cheek. I hugged Peter really tight, as tight as I could.
"Oh, this feels nice," Peter gasped, smiling. I let go of him, and I couldn't help but smile too, even though I was on the verge of tears. His smile was infectious. "Well I'm gonna go Mister Stark!" Peter had to yell, for me to hear him. Peter put his mask back on. I nodded, he shot his webs, and swung away. I put my mask back on, and ran further into the center of the battlefield. Until I saw Thanos, Steve, Strange, Thor, and the new girl, Captain Marvel. I ran towards them. We were all fighting Thanos together.
"I'll cover you guys!" Strange yelled, flying to go fight the monster's that were heading in our direction. I kept fighting, until I saw Spider-Man swing in to fight with us.
"Hey Mister Stark!" He yelled. I really didn't want the kid to get hurt so I yelled.
"Get out of here, kid!"
"No!" He denied. "I want to help you guys!"
"No," I whispered. "Strange, get Peter out of here!" I yelled in the direction of Doctor Strange. He nodded.
"No! No! Mister Stark. I want to-" a yellow ring appeared underneath him, and he screamed as he was engulfed by it.
I'm sorry kid. I thought, running to Thanos. I blasted the infinity gauntlet. Until Thanos used the Power Stone to throw me across the war zone and into a giant piece of rubble.
"Tony!" I heard Peter yell. I looked over to Peter and Strange. I saw Strange nod at something Peter was talking about. Peter put his mask on, swung to Thanos, and kicked him in the face.
"Kid!" I tried to yell but I couldn't. I got up slowly and tried to run to Peter but I couldn't. So I quickly walked. Peter wrapped himself around Thanos' body ending with the infinity gauntlet. I kept walking until I saw Thanos pick Peter up by the neck. He was choking him. "Pete!" I yelled, and started running. Even though every step felt like heck. Thanos then threw Peter against a pile of rubble. He took off his mask, and I saw Peter was smiling, even though he had blood trailing down his face, and out his mouth. He was holding something very shiny in his hands.
Oh my god. I thought. Peter. He-he-he has the infinity stones. I thought running as fast as my injured body would let me.
"Peter!" I yelled. He smiled at me and then put the infinity stones on the back of his hand. I heard him yell in agony. He kept screaming in pain, and I could feel tears trailing down my cheeks. "F.R.I.D.A.Y go faster!" I yelled.
"We are at full speed sir," the AI responded.
Dang it! I thought. Then all of a sudden Peter stopped screaming. I was about 30 feet away from him.
"How?!" Thanos yelled. I saw Peter smile at me and then mouth "I'm sorry,"
"Because I'm Spider-Man!" Peter yelled. I ran as fast as I could until I saw him snap his fingers. I was blinded by a white light, and everything went silent. I saw Thanos slowly disappear. I then broke the eerie silence.
"PETER!!" I yelled, scanning the war zone for him. I saw him lying on the ground by a broken piece of rubble. I ran to him, and when I reached him I saw something that I would never forget. "Peter," I whispered, taking his mask off, and brushing his curly brown hair behind his ears. "Pete, Peter, h-hey kiddo," I stuttered, kneeling down, after I got out of my suit. I looked at the damage. Peter's whole right side was burned, and bleeding, it looked so painful.
"H-h-hey Mister Stark," Peter whispered weakly. His arm that held the infinity stones was bleeding and crumbling. I grabbed his other hand and he squeezed it. His face was calm, but his eyes showed he was just as scared as I was. "D-d-did we win?" Peter stuttered, spitting blood everywhere.
"Ye-ye-yeah we did," I told him, holding back the urge to start sobbing. His skin was slowly turning ghost white, and I knew I was losing him. Again.
"Can you tell," he tried to tell me something but he couldn't. "M-M-May," he whispered.
"Of course," I promised. I was promising him that I would tell Aunt May as sincerely as I could about his death. He's breaths started getting faster and more panicked. He went into shock and his eyes went wide in horror.
"I-I-I love you Dad," he said in a tone of panic. He was looking at me when he said this, and I felt my heart shatter into pieces.
I didn't know that he thought of me as a Dad. I thought. I know I had always thought of him as a son but I didn't know the feeling was mutual. It broke my heart to know that's what he thought of me all this time. It also broke my heart that I didn't tell Peter how I felt about him before.
"I-I-I love you too kid," I replied, finally starting to sob. Peter started to gurgle out things I couldn't understand. He was gurgling his blood. His eyes were still wide in horror but they were slowly losing light. "Shhh, it's okay Pete," I said through sobs. "You can," I paused, biting my lip. "You can r-r-rest now Underoos," I smiled, tears still leaking from my eyes. I bent down and planted a kiss on his forehead. Peter smiled. He then looked around tiredly, and gave my hand one last squeeze. Then his eyes went dull, his skin went ghost white, and Peter went completely still. Peter's hand slipped out of mine and crashed against the floor. "Peter?" I asked, through sobs. "Peter?!" I questioned, a little bit louder this time. "Pete! Come on kid! Talk to me!" I yelled, sobbing. I started shaking his shoulders, hoping he would say something back to me, but he didn't. "Please, Pete! Say something!" I yelled even louder. All of a sudden I felt a hand being placed on my shoulder. I looked up to see Steve, also known as Captain America.
"Tony," he said. I heard his voice break. "Tony I'm sorry he's-he's dead,"
Dead, dead, dead. Rang through my ears. I watched in slow motion as I dropped Peter's shoulders, and he fell to the ground. I watched every detail in his face, and it broke me to pieces.
"He can't be d-d-dead," I whimpered.
"Tony I'm sorry," Steve apologized. I grabbed Peter's non-bleeding hand, and held it against my chest. I then grabbed his shoulders again and pulled his body against mine. "Tony, you have to let go," Steve gently demanded.
"No!" I sobbed. I wouldn't let my kid go, I would never let him go.
"Tony," he demanded. Steve motioned for backup, so Wanda and Rhodey walked to either side of Steve. I felt hands on my shoulder and on my chest pulling me away, pulling me away from my kid. I kicked and I screamed but they wouldn't let go of me. I held onto Peter as tight as I could but they then finally managed to pull me away from him.
"No! No! Let go! Let go of me!" I yelled. "I'll come back to you Pete!" I promised. I could hear sobs behind me and I knew Wanda, Rhodey, and Steve were all crying. They kept dragging me away from Peter. I was still struggling to get out of their grasp, but they held me tight. I let out a blood curdling scream, and I felt the hands that were on me shake. I started to feel weak, and tired. The battle had really done a number on me, and my injuries hurt like heck. I then finally lost consciousness.
