I was with my friend Doris Torres, in the Southern Tower.
I work on the 97th floor and I wasted no time, getting out of there, after the Nothern Tower was struck.
Me and Doris went down to the Sky lobby on the 78th floor.
The two of us, were growing more and more impatient by the moment.
The floor was flood gating, with more and more people, wanting to get out of there.
I was like, "You know what? Let's go back up and call our families, to tell me that we're okay."
Doris didn't seem to have a problem with that and agreed.
I clicked the elevator button.
BOOM.
I felt intense heat. The elevator doors were still open after the impact.
I thought it was a bomb. I didn't think it would be a plane from that blast.
I somehow, found Staircase A that led me and Doris out of the building.
There were only 18 people that survived the escape from the Southern Tower, at or above the impact zone. I was one of them.
Doris Torres, however, wasn't so fortunate.
She was covered head to toe from her burns.
Even though Doris, survived initially getting out of the building with me?
Doris Torres died in the hospital, a few days later from her injuries.
