Heatwave and Hightemp Flamezer lived in a small town in the Dallas area of Texas. They had many friends and family in the area. Heatwave worked as a firefighter. Hightemp worked as a nurse at Children's Medical Center Dallas.

Today was a happy day for them. Today there first child was born a son who they named Hot shot. They loved him very much. Heatwave loved to come home and greet his family and pick his son up and kiss him.

Hightemp loved her son and loved to take him to work sometimes as he got older on take your kid to work day. Hot shot liked it to because some days he went with his mom to the children's hospital and other times he went with his dad to the firehouse.

Hot shot has got five close friends in the neighborhood. Wedge, Hoist, Medix, Whirl and Scorch. He played with them often. They often had play dates together. They all went to the same preschool together as well. They all had so much fun together.

Then when Hot shot turned four he became a big brother, now he had a little brother named Side swipe. He was very excited about his new baby brother. He was looking forward to when Side swipe would be big enough to play with him and such.

Hot shot was a very healthy boy and loved his parents and little brother but growing up his parents noticed he had some problems he got short of breath and tired easily and he said his heart felt like it was pound when he was able to talk.

So his parents took him to the doctor. After checking Hot shot he said Hot shot needed to be sent to the hospital where his mom worked for further testing. Once there they did tests at the heart center and then they said Hot shot need to stay in the hospital for a while. Then later that day they told Hot shot's parents that Hot shot had some heart defects that were not detected till now and now Hot shot was in heart failure.

So they were going to try medicine to help Hot shot and keep things steady and such because he needed heart transplant. After talking things over his parents agreed to get Hot shot a heart transplant.

Things were starting to go and testing was getting done to make sure Hot shot would be able get on the list. It was several days of testing and talking and waiting for approval from insurance and what kind of things Hot shot would need for it and if Hot shot would move up on the list or not if put on the list.

Hot shot was hoping he would be put on the list to get new heart because heart failure sounded scary. But he was also scared because a transplant sounded scary even though it was suppose to help him get better.

Then the doctors called and told them Hot shot has been put on the waiting list for a heart transplant. Now they were going to try a medicine or different medicines to manage the heart failure until the new heart can be put into his chest and get working and help him feel better and be healthy again.

Hot shot was getting used to the medicine that the doctor prescribed him. It tasted yucky. He was going to start Kindergarten soon and was excited to say the least. His mom got a special medical id bracelet to let teachers and staff at the school know that Hot shot was in heart failure and on medicine and who to call if there was problems.

Hot shot liked the way it looked the band had fish on it and he like it because it looked fun to wear and it stay on his wrist well and didn't slip. He showed the bracelet to his friends and explained about it and his heart failure and him being on the waiting list for a heart donation.

Hot shot's friends were very shocked to say the least that their friend was so unwell. They hoped he was going to be okay and such. Because it sounded very scary to them about the heart failure and Hot shot getting a new heart put in his body to help him become healthy again. But they wanted him to get better so they supported him.

On the first day of school Hot shot made sure to wear his bracelet and had everything. "Hot shot remember we are going to pick you up early for more tests at the hospital today okay?" Hightemp told him.

"Yes ma'am," Hot shot said. Then he climbed onto the school bus and headed off to school.

Once at school Hot shot went to his classroom and saw his friends were in the same class as him. Hot shot showed Ms. Leaf his Kindergarten teacher his medical id bracelet and a letter from the doctor to explain why sometimes Hot shot would be in class or would have to leave class early sometimes.

"Hot shot I do hope you get better," Ms. Leaf said.

There was a lot of playing and reading and singing in Kindergarten.

Then the teacher got a call and she told Hot shot to get his things told him his mom was waiting to take him to the children's hospital for a check up and tests done on his heart. Hot shot grabbed his things and left. Many of the kids asked what was going on with Hot shot.

Ms. Leaf explained to them about Hot shot's heart failing and not working right anymore and he was waiting for a new heart to make him healthy again. The kids were very worried and concerned but they were glad Hot shot could have chance to be healthy again once he gets his new heart.

Hot shot met his mom and they went to the hospital. Once there he got ECG and an echo, and other tests done such as blood work and stuff and doing many different therapies as well the stay strong and healthy and making sure the medicine was doing right until a heart that would be perfect for Hot shot would come in.

After a few hours Hot shot got to go home. He was hoping things would improve soon and they would find a heart that was just right for him soon. He knew the doctors said he might get some hospitalizations because of the heart failure and may get put on this thing called a VAD to help him until his heart comes in so they have to keep a close eye on him until then.

Hot shot knew this wasn't going to be an easy ride but he hoped he could better because he knew he had the strength to do this especially with his friends and family.
