The Dark Side of the Moon
Chapter Thirteen
Darkness loomed in the sky. With the sun gone, the clouds went along with it. The once gray thunderous sky was now dark without a cloud or star insight. It was hard to tell if it was day or night. As thunder continued to roared lightning was right behind it. It didn't take long for the wailing winds and baseball size hail to join in. Making for a rather horrendous, but monumental, final showdown.
Percy, Annabeth, Chiron, Catherine, and Erica ignored the stings of hail as they pushed through the wailing winds. They slashed, stabbed, punched and kicked their way through hordes of demon fiends.
Erica and Percy ran toward the building in a criss crossing motion, mowing down the fiends. With Annabeth jumping in the air with her daggers slicing through the ones who took flight.
Chiron and Catherine held up the rear, with Kitten Selene hugging Chiron's shoulder. The kitten scratched any demons that got too close. Chiron galloped through, slicing away, with Catherine right behind him, punching and kicking any fiends left behind.
"We're almost there!" Percy shouted.
As Erica, Percy and Annabeth were about to reach the door, a wave of energy knocked them back. Rolling on the ground, Chiron and Catherine arrived to help them up. Their eyes narrowed as Mr. X and a woman with long, dark purple hair and matching eyes looked at them.
"Selene," Chiron said.
"More like Dark Selene," Percy added, only to receive a smack from Annabeth.
"Sorry, Me and Grover were watching a Star Wars marathon before this all went down," Percy said.
Annabeth shook her head and sighed.
Chiron looked at Dark Selene, who locked eyes with him. The kitten hissed and hugged Chiron's neck before hiding behind his hair. Tilting her head, the woman continued to stare at him. But the moment Mr. X pulled her close, she broke eye contact with Chiron. After a few moments, Mr. X let her go and cleared his throat as his staff materialized in his hand.
"I see you have teamed up with the enemy, no matter with the fabled Dark Side of the Moon by my side. The world as you know it will cease to exist, "Mr. X said, followed by a laugh.
Erica's eyes narrowed as a dark purple aura lined her body. Percy's eyes gave off a cerulean glow that lined his body as he gripped his sword tight. Annabeth's eyes held a lavender tint as she grit her teeth.
Dark Selene looked over at Chiron, whose eyes held a tannish color within them. Seeing this, Catherine stood in front of Chiron, which seem to anger Dark Selene, for her eyes glowed and her dark purple aura increased. More demons formed around them, much larger than before. A bo staff formed in Dark Selene's hands as her body gave off a huge amount of chaos energy.
"Now, let the fight for the world begin!" Mr. X shouted.
Everyone roared as the demons, Mr. X, and Dark Selene, charged.
Percy, Annabeth and Erica were slicing through demon after demon, but they spawned faster than they could slay them. After a few moments, Annabeth sped through a row of demons, slicing them away with ease. Erica flipped over a group of them, slicing so fast that when she landed, they disappeared in smoke. Percy mowed down a bunch with a charged slash from his blade.
All three of them could only watch as more demons formed, but something shiny caught their eyes. Looking at each other, they nodded and ran toward the newly formed group of demons. They fought them like before until they noticed the shiny object glowing again. It was from the demon in the center of the group.
Annabeth jumped high and came down on the demon from the top, slicing through the creature. Erica and Percy sliced through the demon from the left and right. The demon screamed as its body shook violently. The shiny object grew brighter, revealing it to be a purple gem. The moment the three touched it, the gem shattered, destroying all the other demons.
The three looked around, noticing the bubbling pools of liquid on the ground disappear. They were interrupted by Mr. X, who punched Erica in the face. Percy punched him hard in the gut and Annabeth followed up with a kick to the face. Knocking him down, Mr. X quickly recovered. He smiled as he wiped the blood from his lips.
"Come on, show me what you got. I can take all three of you on," Mr. X said.
Annabeth helped Erica stand up.
"Who is this guy?" she asked, as Percy joined them.
"His name is Mr. X. He gave my master the chaos energy to make me and all the other creatures," Erica said.
"Hm," Percy said, as he slipped into his fighting stance. "This fight won't be easy."
Percy, Annabeth and Erica charged at Mr. X who charged back at them.
Catherine and Dark Selene were matching blow for blow. Blocking most of the attacks with her gauntlets, Catherine received a few smacks from Dark Selene's bo staff to the face and legs. Grabbing her hand, Catherine tossed her in Chiron's direction. Dark Selene stopped as she looked at him, not wanting to lay a hand on him.
Using this to her advantage, Catherine kicked Dark Selene in the chest. Dark Selene winced as she lost her footing and smacked the wall of the building. Pulling his eyes away from her, Chiron pulled out his sword, but his legs refuse to move.
"I could use some help here!" Catherine yelled.
Looking down, Chiron set Kitten Selene under a tree. It looked at him and vice versa. The kitten nodded, and Chiron did the same.
"Go help her."
Chiron turned around and charged toward Dark Selene. The moment he grabbed her, he pushed her up against the wall. Their eyes locked once more. Tears filled his eyes as Dark Selene wiped away tears from her own.
Catherine was no fool. She realized what was going on here. Backing away, she watched as the two of them fought. They must be lover she thought. One was fighting to save the world, while the other fought to destroy it. Oh, Catherine, she thought, what had she done? She needed to fix this.
Turning around, she saw Percy, Annabeth and Erica fighting Mr. X. Nodding to herself, Catherine ran through the main doors of the building and raced to her lab. Stepping over the door and walking inside, Catherine watched as the massive funnel of chaos energy swirled around the center of her lab.
After years of work, this was what she wanted to experience, the ultimate use of chaos energy. But this was wrong. She got here under the guise of a madman. She needed to stop this, and she knew just how to do it.
Racing over to the back of the room, Catherine pulled out the wall, exposing the massive variety of wires that lined the walls all over the lab and building. As she turned to the panel on the side of the wall, a loud thump interrupted her. Turning around, Catherine looked up at an enormous dragon with glowing red eyes.
"Oh, well… Plan B, it is then," Catherine said, swallowing hard.
Outside Erica, Percy and Annabeth were keeping up with Mr. X but they were also growing tired. Percy's eyes flickered as he sent out a massive wave of water from his sword. But Mr. X blocked it with ease. He kicked Percy in the chest, knocking him off his feet as his back smack the trunk of a tree.
Erica and Annabeth let out a rain of blows with their sword and daggers. A few got through, cutting at Mr. X's arms and grazing his face. But the moment he slammed his staff on the ground, a huge lightning bolt sent both of them flying back into the same tree that Percy was in.
"Crap, this is tougher than I thought. He is no demigod," Annabeth said.
"He has to be a god and from the use of his lightning…." Percy's eyes widen. "No," he whispered.
Mr. X merely smiled. "Oh, yes."
Twirling around his staff, multiple lightning bolts struck near the three of them, causing them to jump and run out of the way.
"I know of the gods. If he is related to Zeus, how do we stop him?" Erica asked.
"Hm, I think I found his weak spot," Percy said, slipping into his fighting stance.
Annabeth looked back at Mr. X and then Percy. She noticed where Percy's eyes were looking. Smiling, she nodded. Confused, Erica slipped into her fighting stance, as did Annabeth.
"Just follow my lead. If this works, he won't know what hit him," Percy said.
Nodding, the girls charged behind Percy, who had a smile across his lips.
On the other side, Chiron and Dark Selene were still fighting. Dark Selene found it strange that Chiron had tears in his eyes. She felt as if she knew him, but couldn't be sure.
"Familiar…so familiar," left Dark Selene's lips.
"I want you to remember me so much," Chiron said. "All the picnics we went on and the walks along the beach. You couldn't have forgotten that, have you?"
Dark Selene's eyes flickered from crystal blue to purple. Images of a beach entered her mind as she pushed him away. Her mind pictured herself standing up on a hill, watching a figure run along the shoreline. She smiled as the figure turned around and smiled back at her. A small smile trickled across Dark Selene's lips as she saw the figure, and her throwing cake and sandwiches at each other, laughing. The figure even clapped as she danced under the full moon.
"Remember? Yes, but not completely. Something is missing." A person…they made me smile, they made me laugh," Dark Selene said.
Dark Selene pushed Chiron away again. But when she did, she felt a since of regret. Why did such a feeling cause her discomfort? Why did his tears make her eyes water, too? The more she looked at his face, the more her head hurt. Gritting her teeth, she shook her head, screaming.
"No…..stop it hurts! But why... why does it hurt?!" Dark Selene screamed.
Chiron watched as Dark Selene shook her head as the chaos energy within her fizzled in and out.
"Remember please, I love you Selene,"
Dark Selene's bo staff disappeared as her mind continued to be flooded with memories of this figure and her. Her body shook violently as she backed up against the wall. When she looked back at Chiron, one eye was crystal blue while the other was purple. She opened her mouth as a word escaped her lips.
"Chiron?"
Smiling, Chiron reached out his hand toward Dark Selene, who slowly reached out her hand towards him. Kitten Selene emerged from the tree. She was about to stand beside Chiron when a voice caused her to stop.
"No!"
Chiron turned to Mr. X, who aimed his staff at Dark Selene. A piece of the chaos vortex busted through the lab, engulfing Dark Selene. Chiron tried to reach in and save her, only to get knocked back instead.
Walking out of the vortex, Dark Selene's eyes were dark purple once again. Chiron shook his head, as a sinister smiling Dark Selene looked back at him. No, he thought, had he truly lost her?
Mr. X smiled as he turned back to Percy, Annabeth, and Erica. His eyes widen as Percy whizzed passed him. Percy circled around Mr. X, his blue aura glowing brighter and brighter. Mr. X blocked Percy's attacked with ease. He noticed Percy's moves were getting harder to dictate.
Mr. X's eyes flickered as his staff glowed. He twirled his staff in the air. Just as he was about to slam it down on the ground, Annabeth and Erica came out of nowhere and charged at him. When they went by Mr. X smiled, he thought they missed him. Yet, when he went to use his staff, his eyes widen for it was cut in two. He had one half in his hand while the other part laid on the ground.
He looked back at Annabeth and Erica, who looked back at him, smiling as they pointed behind him. The moment Mr. X turned around. There was Percy charging toward him, he grabs his hand and tossed him into a group of trees that fell down on top of him.
Kicking the trees off him, Mr. X looked up as Erica, Annabeth and Percy were glowing as they charged toward him. Without his staff, Mr. X's eyes widen as he screamed. The moment they made contact, there was an explosion. When the dust cleared, there was a gigantic crater and Mr. X laid in the center.
Mr. X struggled to get up. Percy, Annabeth and Erica stood there looking over him. The three of them moved aside when Dark Selene appeared.
"Help me," Mr. X said, reaching out to her.
Dark Selene continued staring at him. "You are not worthy."
Mr. X's eyes widen. "I own you!"
"No one owns me," Dark Selene said, holding up her hand as a dark ball of energy formed within it. "Now begone."
"Don't," a voice shouted from behind her.
Dark Selene turned around; she watched as Chiron limp towards her. When she turned around, Mr. X was gone.
Percy, Annabeth and Erica stood beside Chiron as the chaos vortex continued to spin. Before Dark Selene could absorb its power, there was a loud explosion from behind them. The vortex disappeared, but the building was covered in flames.
Erica and Percy ran toward the building, but another explosion erupted, knocking them both back. Erica jumped up and ran toward the hole in the lab, only for Percy and Annabeth to pull her back.
"Master!" she screamed.
Looking at the burning building, all the memories flooded back to Dark Selene. From being trapped in the chamber to the creation of Erica. While she couldn't see them, she could hear and feel the joy both Catherine and Erica had for each other.
Floating off the ground, Dark Selene entered through the hole in the lab. Everyone watched patiently as the fire was snuffed out. Dark Selene emerged with Catherine in her arms. She laid her down on the ground. Erica was by her side in an instant.
Dark Selene's eyes flickered as she placed a hand on Catherine's chest. They all watched as Dark Selene absorb all the chaos energy from Catherine's body. She backed away as Catherine gasp and sat up with a groan. Erica hugged her tightly.
"Ow…" Catherine groaned.
"Sorry, I am so glad you're not..." Erica trailed off.
"As am I," Catherine said, looking over at Dark Selene. "I am sorry for everything. I let my obsession get the best of me."
Dark Selene looked at Erica, then back at Catherine. "Take care of yourselves."
Erica nodded, still hugging Catherine.
Dark Selene looked over at Annabeth, Percy, and Chiron. When Chiron moved closer to Dark Selene, she backed away. He shook his head, but her tear filled eyes looked back at his. He tried once more, but she backed away again. In fact, she floated high into the sky. Chiron reached out toward her, but she kept floating higher and higher as she disappeared.
Percy, Annabeth, and Chiron looked up at the sky. The wind had been reduced to a breeze as the hail and thunder stopped completely. They could even see the stars in the night sky.
"Is it over? Has the Dark Side of the Moon vanished?" Percy asked.
Chiron looked over at Kitten Selene. She walked over to him and hopped on his shoulder.
"No, but I have a feeling where she went," Chiron said.
Back at Camp Half Blood, everyone emerged from their cabins and Big House to look up at the night sky. Everyone cheered the moment they saw the stars again. Dionysus looked at Hazel and Jeremiah. They showed him video feed from around the world. All the disasters were gone. In fact, it was as if none of it ever happened. He had a feeling who was behind that.
Celeste smiled as a sigh escaped her lips. She continued looking up at the stars in the night sky. Dionysus stood beside her.
"It's over." Celeste said.
"Yup, but the cleanup begins," Dionysus said, followed by a sigh.
Celeste chuckled and pushed Dionysus playfully.
"Come on you, let's go lend a hand."
"Does that mean you're staying?"
"For a while, and this time I will keep in touch,"
Dionysus smiled; Celeste handed him some debris as they began the long clean up ahead of them.
