The Dark Side of the Moon
Chapter Fourteen
One month later, Catherine sighed, standing outside of her now burned down lab and home. She continued looking at the mess before her. There were no computers consoles, monitors or anything left salvageable. She watched as Erica continued looking through the charred remains for anything as well.
Walking up to her office door, Catherine gave it a light tug. The door fell down as she walked inside. The monitors were fried, as were most of the videos she recorded. It was for the best. She had promised that she wouldn't get to wound up into chaos energy again. Pulling out the drawers, she found her notebooks were only singed on the edges but still intact. She even spotted Erica's notebook as well. Smiling, Catherine picked them up as Erica approached her.
"Ah, the notebooks survived," Erica said.
"That they did," Catherine said, handing Erica her notebook."
Erica smiled as she hugged it. Catherine chuckled.
They looked around the moment they heard another set of footsteps. They turned to the front to see a woman with brown hair, wearing a black shirt, matching color pants, with a golden yellow blazer. Erica noticed the letters GSL woven on the right side of the blazer.
The woman held up her arms. "I come in peace. My name is Helen Williams, head librarian at the GSL,"
"GSL?" Erica asked.
"Golden Sun Library," Catherine said. "You have contacted me once before."
"What would a library want to do with us?" Erica asked.
"Oh, we do more than just book work, isn't that right Ms. Miller?" Helen said.
Catherine's eyes narrowed. "What do you want?"
"To let you know, the offer still stands. From the looks of it you could use a fresh start," Helen said.
Catherine sighed, looking away. Erica pulled on her shirt; as Catherine looked at her.
"What do you think?" Catherine asked.
Erica stood there for a moment, scratching her chin.
"I like the sound of a fresh start; I say we do it."
Catherine sighed once more before looking back at Helen. "You heard her."
Helen smiled and bowed. "Good, glad to hear it."
Helen walked over to the two women, handing them both a coin. Erica looked at the coin with confusion. She was about to bite it when Catherine showed her a breaking motion, Erica nodded.
"Catherine and Erica, welcome to the Golden Sun."
The three of them broke the coins, and they disappeared.
Night came quickly across Camp Half Blood. It's been over a month since Selene's disappearance and Chiron has been patient. He never once let his sadness show. In fact, he always seems to have a smile across his lips. Which confused Percy, Annabeth, and Grover. When they asked Dionysus and Celeste, they said he's merely waiting. But there is one thing he always took with him …... Kitten Selene, for she never left his side.
But tonight, was different. When Chiron left the training ground and headed toward Big House, the kitten struggled in his grip. So, he let her go and watched as she ran toward the shore. His eyes widen as a huge smile spread across his lips. Racing back to Big House, Dionysus, Celeste, Percy, Annabeth, Grover, Hazel, and Jeremiah welcomed Chiron.
Celeste smiled as Percy handed him a large picnic basket. Chiron looked at all of them.
"Thank you," he said.
"Go on and this time, don't be late," Celeste said.
Smiling, Chiron galloped toward the shore. Everyone watched as he disappeared from view.
Dionysus glared at everyone. "Okay, you four off to your cabins."
Annabeth, Grover, Percy and Jeremiah sighed as they walked away. Hazel smiled, waving as she left as well. Leaving only Dionysus and Celeste standing outside of Big House.
Dionysus walked inside Big House. After a few moments, Celeste followed.
"Finally, they get there happily ever after, too."
At the shore, standing on a hill looking out at the ocean, Dark Selene sighed. The feel of the ocean breeze felt nice as it tickled her skin. This was the place she saw in her mind, it refused to leave her alone. It was as if she was being drawn here. Looking down at her hands, she could see the chaos energy still flowing through her body. Tears trickled down her cheeks, but she wiped them away when she sensed a familiar presence. Looking down to her right was a white crystal kitten, it meowed as it looked up at her. She continued looking at it until a familiar voice reached her ears.
"I thought you would come back here," Chiron said. "You always loved this place the most."
Selene looked at Chiron, her eyes filled back up with tears. She watched as he set down a large basket and pulled out a pale blue blanket. Followed by a few sandwiches, cakes and a chilled bottle of red wine and two glasses. He handed Selene a glass as he popped the cork and pour some in for her and then himself.
"Cheers," he said, as he held up his glass.
"Cheers," Dark Selene said, as she held up her glass.
The two of them drank a little before looking out at the ocean. Chiron was glad when he moved closer to Dark Selene. She didn't move away. In fact, she moved a little closer to him.
"I cleaned up all the remnants of the chaos energy around the world," Dark Selene said.
"By absorbing it," Chiron said.
Dark Selene looked at Chiron, who looked back at her. She raised her hand, wanting to touch his face but stopping only seconds from doing so.
"I remember everything," Dark Selene said.
Chiron smiled. "I am so glad, I thought I lost you…"
"I thought I did as well, yet something is still missing."
The kitten down on the blanket meowed loudly. Selene looked back at the kitten. Her eyes widen as the kitten's body glowed the moment the moon came into view. Chiron backed away as the kitten transformed into Selene. Both women looked like twins, except one was light and the other dark.
"Hello, I've been waiting for you," Light Selene said.
Putting down her glass, Dark Selene turned toward Light Selene. She looked at her for a while until a smile spread across her lips. Dark Selene felt a surge in her heart.
"It's you… my missing piece," Dark Selene said.
"He kept me safe so this moment could happen." Light Selene said.
Tears trickled down Dark Selene's cheeks as Light Selene wiped them away.
The moonlight shined bright engulfing both Dark and Light Selene. The moment the light dimmed, Chiron looked back and there stood Selene with her long pale white hair and crystal blue eyes in her normal long white gown. She was whole once again. With the flick of her wrist, Selene transformed her clothes into a simple white shirt and blue jeans.
Spinning round and round, Selene swayed her hips to the beat of the moonlight. Smiling and clapping away, Chiron sighed, enjoying every moment. After for what felt like forever, peace had finally returned to both of their hearts.
Elsewhere in the darkness, Mr. X was on his knees, bowing to a man with short black hair wearing a pinstriped suit. He tapped a cane that had a skull on top.
"I am sorry, sir," Mr. X said.
The man sighed, shaking his head.
"Your impatience is to blame here, but no matter." The man said. "Handle the preparations, for it looks like it's my turn, for I will have the Dark Side of the Moon.
Percy and his friends will return in Sleeping Beauty
