Following their visit to the Jiro home, Bulla and Yaoyorozu continued with Kaminari, Kirishima, and Koda. As she waved goodbye to Mrs. Koda, Bulla checked his name off of the roster. "Alright! We're making great time, Momo!" Bulla told her as they made their way to the Midoriya home. Before they could walk very far, they decided to stop at an ice cream cart.
"Can I have a scoop of wedding cake?" Yaoyorozu asked the stocky man.
"Of course! Anything for a lovely lady like yourself!" He told her as he reached in a scooped some white ice cream onto the cone.
"Thank you. I'm getting her ice cream, as well."
"And for you, young lady?" He asked her. Something was off about his tone. It was as if comparing the way you talk to adults to the way you talk to children. Does he think she's older than I am...? I mean, she is by a year, but he doesn't know that!
"Right... Could I have some strawberry, sir?" Bulla asked him as he frowned.
"So sorry, little lady, I just ran out of strawberry." He shook his head and pointed to his cart. "Can I get you something else?"
"Oh, that's okay, could I have some cookie dough, then?" She asked, putting a finger to her chin.
"Nope. I ran out of that last week. Anything else catch your attention?" He asked her, his stoic expression remaining as a clear reminder of his lack of products.
"Alright... What do you recommend...?"
"We have sherbert." He told her with a slight smile as she nodded.
"Yeah, I like sherbert. Could I have some of that?"
"Sorry, kid, I haven't had rainbow sherbert for months. What makes you think I had any to begin with?" He told her, causing Bulla's brain to hurt.
"Wha- But I- But you- What the-!?" Before she could spit her words out, the man began laughing boisterously.
"I'm just messing with you, girls. Here, you wanted strawberry, right?" He confirmed as he reached into his cart loaded some strawberry ice cream onto the cone. As he handed it to her, he explained his reasoning. "It's been a rough week for me, so I thought I could use a good laugh like that. This is on the house, girls, for letting me get a laugh out of you."
"Thank you so much!" Yaoyorozu said with a smile.
As Bulla rolled her eyes, she remembered her manners, despite her annoyed gesture's lack of effect on the ice cream seller. "Right... Thanks..." I'm happy he feels better, but why was I the butt end of the joke? She thought to herself as the two continued their trip. Just before leaving the park, Yaoyorozu pulled out her phone and held it to the sky, inching closer to Bulla. Looking up, Bulla's dazed expression didn't shift until she heard a camera snap. "Wha- Huh!? Momo, delete that! Why didn't you tell me you were taking a picture!?"
"I thought it was obvious." Yaoyorozu explained with a giggle. "Here, I'll take another one." This time, holding the phone in the same position, both Yaoyorozu and Bulla smiled. Before pulling the phone back, Yaoyorozu winked at the camera with her tongue on her ice cream, and Bulla followed suit. As she pulled the phone back, she couldn't stop smiling. "I love these! Look!"
As the phone obscured her vision, Bulla looked at her smiling face next to Yaoyorozu's, and a thought crossed her mind. When was the last time I looked at myself in a mirror...and called myself pretty...? Looking down, Bulla mind began to feel as if it was clouded. I guess it'd be a lie, anyway...
"You're so beautiful in this one, Bulla!" Yaoyorozu gushed as she swiped to the following picture. Bulla's mouth slightly gaped before contorting into a soft smile.
"Thanks! You, too, Momo!" She said as her smile only grew. Maybe it wouldn't be a lie, after all.
"I-Izuku! You have some guests!" Midoriya's mother called out for him shortly after opening the door. "Come in, come in! It's a pleasure being able to meet Izuku's friends!"
"Thank you, Ma'am. We won't occupy too much of your time." Bulla said as she and Yaoyorozu stepped inside.
"Oh, Brief, it's you!" Izuku said, leaving his room behind. "And Yaoyorozu, too!"
"Good afternoon, Izuku." Bulla greeted. "I don't suppose you've forgotten about what I told you to call us?" She asked him.
"N-No! Not at all! Bulla, and Momo. Welcome to my home." He said with bow as Bulla smiled.
"Great! So, how are you feeling after yesterday?"
"I'm doing alright, thank you, but what are you doing here?" He asked.
"Momo and I were checking on the rest of the class, and you were next on the roster." She explained as she showed him the list of checked-off names.
"I'm sorry, did I hear that your name was Brief?" Mrs. Midoriya asked, emerging from the kitchen.
"Oh, right. Mom, this is Bulla Brief and Momo Yaoyorozu, our Class Rep and Class Deputy." Izuku introduced. "They're the ones that made me the Class Historian."
"Oh my gosh, you're Bulla Brief?!" She said, stumbling over as she closed the distance between them. Taking her hands, tears began to fill her eyes. "You saved my baby... You see, ever since Izuku's Quirk manifested, he's been thrown into such a dangerous world. Of course I'll support him, but I don't know what I would do if I ever lost him. So thank you, so much!"
"Hey, hey, it was nothing. As the Class Representative, I was chosen to defend everyone, at all costs." Bulla told her.
"Well, don't forget that you can rely on your fellow Officers." Yaoyorozu said with a smile, resting a hand on her shoulder.
"No matter what, we'll stand by your side and defend Class 1A, together." Izuku chimed in as he stepped forward. "So Mom, please don't worry. With Bri- I mean, Bulla and Momo, and Tenya, and Ochaco strength, there's nothing that we won't overcome."
After a moment of silence, Mrs. Midoriya wiped the tears from her eyes and took a deep breath. "I can't stop myself from worrying, but knowing that you two will be there to help my son out of any tough spot does put my mind at ease. So please, continue to help my son the whole way." Her smile was warming, and Bulla's nod reassured her that Izuku would be okay.
Following Mineta, Sato, Sero, and Shoji, it was time for Bulla and Yaoyorozu to visit Todoroki's home. Once they arrived, they were met with a warm welcome. "Oh, Shoto?" A woman with white hair, highlighted with patches of red, answered the door. "Let me go see if I can find him. Would you mind waiting out here for a moment?"
"Oh, of course." Bulla said, shocked by the new response. Every other family that day had invited them inside, so for a moment, it came as a shock that she was asked to wait outside. After about ten minutes, the door opened, and a large, muscular-built man with short, spiked hair opened the door.
"Who are you? What business do you have here?" The man asked.
"I take it that you're Todoroki's father, Endeavor?" Yaoyorozu suddenly assumed, looking up at him.
"Who wants to know?" His deep voice sent chills down Bulla's spine.
"Mr. Todoroki-"
"Endeavor." He man said, cutting her off.
"My apologies, Sir. Mr. Endeavor, my name is Bulla Brief, Class Representative for Class 1A." She introduced as Yaoyorozu chimed in.
As the Class Deputy explained, Endeavor's face further contorted with anger. "And I'm Momo Yaoyorozu, Class Deputy of Class 1A. We came by to check on Todoroki, and make sure he's doing well after the villains invaded the school."
"Are you implying that my son is so weak-minded that he'd be that badly affected by some low-life villains?" He growled.
"No, Sir, not at all. Todoroki is such a strong student, and it has been a great opportunity to train alongside him in class!" Bulla said, quickly trying to salvage the situation.
"Wait a minute, you said Brief. You're the student that fought off that bird-villain. Among the top heroes, it was said to be as strong as All Might. So, what connection do you have to him?" He asked, narrowing his eyes.
"He's my teacher. I fought off that villain purely out of concern for my class. That same concern is why I've been visiting my classmates' homes all day, Sir." Bulla told him, clenching her fists. "Frankly, I didn't do much besides fight off that villain, but if that was the only thing I could do to keep it's attention, then so be it!"
"Tell me, why are you wasting my time with your rant?" He asked as Bulla covered her mouth, realizing that she was venting to the world's #2 Pro Hero. "Shoto is fine. So leave my home, at once." His words were cold, as if they could stop the flames that Endeavor were known for, and he slammed the door in their face.
With a sigh, Bulla took out her roster and put a question mark next to Todoroki's name. "Man, what's with that guy?"
Last on their class roster was Uraraka, but they were surprised when upon arriving. "Brief? Yaoyorozu? What are you two doing here?" Uraraka asked.
"Hey, Uraraka! We came by to check on you!" Bulla told her with a smile. "We're happy to see that you're up and about. Are you home alone?"
"Yeah, I live alone since I had to move out here to be closer to UA. My parents send me money every month to pay for it, but frankly, I wish they'd worry about themselves." With her face suddenly beginning to sulk, she shook her head and slapped her cheeks in unison. "I'm sorry, would you two like to come inside?"
"Of course. You're our last stop, after all." Yaoyorozu told her as the three went inside.
"So, Uraraka, what did you mean that you'd wish your parents wouldn't worry about you?" She asked. "I'm sorry if the questions is too straightforward, or too personal."
"No, it's fine. It's actually the reason that I want to become a Pro Hero. You see... My parents own a construction company, but business hasn't been quite the best. I wanted to help them, so I figured if I get licensed, I could work for them and sell their heavy-lifting gear. With the money I'll make as a Rescue Hero, I'd be able to help take care of them, and give them a nice and easy life." Uraraka explained. "I know that it sounds selfish, but-"
"No, not at all!" Yaoyorozu interrupted.
"Yeah, it's a perfectly fine and justifiable reason to want to take care of family. Wanting to earn enough to do so is not at all selfish." Bulla told her. "So, how are you feeling after yesterday?"
"I'm fine," she said, "I really didn't fight so I wasn't scathed at all. "I'm actually surprised that you would be asking me if I'm okay. You were incredible out there, Brief!" Uraraka swung her fist through the air as she gushed over Bulla's fight.
"Well, I'm happy to see that you're okay, Uraraka, but we should be getting going, soon." Bulla told her, gesturing to the door.
"Aww, already?" Uraraka whined as she held her hands to her chest.
Bulla began to explain, showing her friend the time on her phone. "I'm sorry, but I have to be back to the orphanage before the Sun gets too low. I know we just got here, but we were already pressed for time..."
"No, it's fine, I understand. My home is just so empty all the time. It's nice to have some visitors is all..." She explained, holding her hands together against her waist.
After a moment of thinking, Bulla snapped her fingers. "Man, I really need to get home. However, I do remember just dragging you along, Momo."
As she began to understand what Bulla was implying. "That's right. Bulla, do you need anything else of me before we complete our task?"
"Absolutely not. Although, it seems like the Sun is getting way too low for you to make it all the way home, Momo. It's a good thing that for me, the orphanage isn't too far away by train. Do you think that you could possibly...?"
"Of course. Uraraka, would you mind if I stayed the night? We can leave for school together in the morning." Yaoyorozu asked her with a slight bow.
"Yes! Of course! I'd love to have you, Yaoyorozu! Although, it's still unfortunate that you have to be on your way when it's already so late, Brief." Uraraka told her out of concern.
"It's fine, Uraraka." Bulla said. "I have to get going, now. But I'll see you two in the morning, alright?"
"Right!" Uraraka agreed.
"Of course. Have a safe journey, Bulla." Yaoyorozu told her. As she waved goodbye, Bulla made her way back home, just as promised. It wasn't very long before she could once again see the welcoming doors of the orphanage that she now called home, and out front was her best friend.
"Well, it took you long enough!" Pan called out, a wide smile across her face.
"I'm sorry, I could have taken longer. Just be happy that I made it." Bulla responded with a shared smile. As she closed the distance, the two girls went inside, and prepared for the night ahead of them.
