(The Finder)
Thank you for reviewing my story. I appreciate it.
I don't own Bones.
Ooooooooooooooooo
Walter Sherman thought Temperance Brennan was utterly fascinating. Booth was there trying to get him to look for a sea chart, but that didn't matter to him. Staring intently at the beautiful lady sitting next to Booth, Walter leaned forward. "Are you two sleeping together?"
"No." Brennan, thought that seemed like a strange question to ask of someone they had just met.
"No." Shaking his head, Booth replied too.
Well since there didn't seem to be any impediments in his way, Walter leaned even closer to Brennan. "Would you sleep with me?"
Using his right hand to hide the side of his face, Booth leaned forward and spoke softly. "You know what? You find the map, maybe you got a shot."
Not sure whether to laugh or be outraged, Brennan chose to be amused and punched her partner on his arm.
"What? He's drunk . . . Sorry." Confident that his partner would never sleep with Walter, Booth had tried to use the possibility as a bribe. Of course, Brennan had heard him and made it plain to everyone that he had been wrong to say such a thing.
His interest diverted, Walter spoke of the chart and how it might lead to the finding of the Spanish ship the Santa Esperanza. Eventually he agreed to look for the chart and it was time for Booth and Brennan to leave.
Once in the car and on their way, Brennan turned a little in her seat to face Booth. "You find the map and maybe you got a shot? Really?"
"Come on, I knew you wouldn't do it. I was just trying to bribe Wally." For the last few weeks, Booth had been feeling confident in his relationship with Brennan. They were taking things slowly. A few dates here and there, nothing too seriously, but he was certain that their relationship had changed. They were more than partners, more than friends . . . it was a great feeling and he'd never felt so certain of anyone in his life.
Their lives were changing and Brennan was enjoying the progress. They had moved from being friends to something a bit more than friends. She didn't know if there was a name for it and that left her puzzled. They were closer than they had ever been and yet their relationship wasn't a physical one. She knew that Booth was moving slowly to make sure they were on the same page and she was fine with that. The last thing they wanted to do was to move too fast and blow up their friendship again. She didn't think there would be a third chance to get it right. "I do know that you were joking. It just surprised me that's all. Normally, you don't like it when any man propositions me and you make your displeasure known."
"Yeah . . . well, we're in a special place now. We're going to be together someday . . . soon and I know that you're not going to do anything to stop that and neither am I." Booth smiled. "Walter is such an idiot . . . He doesn't even know you and yet he thought it was okay to ask you to go to bed with him . . . It would have served him right if you'd have kicked in in the balls. What a jerk."
Oooooooooooooooooooooooo
Walter had come through, he had found the chart which led to the Santa Esperanza and the treasure it had held in it's holds. They hadn't heard from Walter about the treasure yet and Booth was looking forward to arresting Walter for stealing it. They'd had dinner together and were going for a walk since the evening was pleasant.
"But he found the treasure. How is that stealing? He was working for the FBI." Brennan didn't really understand Booth's antipathy towards Walter.
A little agitated, Booth stopped and faced Brennan. "He can't just keep it."
"Why do you dislike Walter so much?"
Since he believed that Brennan deserved the truth about what was going on, Booth told her about the day he had left his base without permission to go see his new born child and how Walter Sherman had been sent to track him down and arrest him. "This is my chance to get a little payback."
Their conversation was interrupted when a van pulled up beside them and Walter's protégé exited the van. A large crate was dumped on the sidewalk with little fanfare which cause Booth and Brennan to take a step back. Instead of the treasure from the sunken ship, the crate contained a murderer, Lambert Chaisson. Walter's associates explained that Walter had quit working for the FBI before he found the ship and the treasure had been given to the Catholic Church. A few threats passed between Booth and the Associates and then the van was gone.
The case hadn't gone as well as it could have, but Booth accepted that Walter had outsmarted him and the FBI. "I'm going to get that guy someday."
"You're just prejudiced against him because he tracked you down when you went AWOL to see Parker shortly after he was born." Brennan knew that Booth had his prejudices, but that made him human. No one wanted someone in their life that was perfect. That perfection would be intolerable after a while.
Pursing his lips, Booth finally nodded his head. "Damn right. He arrested me in front of my baby son . . . he could have waited until I was in the hallway before he handcuffed me . . . I'm allowed to hate a guy like that and you can't make me like him."
"No, I can't." This conversation was rather amusing to Brennan. Booth was an excellent investigator and the FBI thought well of him, but apparently the thought of being arrested for breaking a military law made him quite angry.
"And I wasn't a deserter or anything. I had every intention of going back to my base after I saw Parker." Booth still fumed about the injustice of what had happened to him. "I left without permission to see my newborn son when they wouldn't give me a pass, but I was going back. AWOL means desertion with the intention of not going back . . . My commanding officer understood that when I got back and he gave me the minimum . . . one month in the stockade and they took 2/3 of my pay for one month."
That seemed a little excessive to Brennan, but she knew that military discipline was important. You couldn't expect soldiers to just take off for a few days when they wanted to. "But you had enough faith in Walter to ask him to find the chart showing the whereabouts of the Santa Esperanza."
"I told you he has the Finder power. He found the chart and he found the ship. Of course, I didn't expect him to keep the treasure." The Deputy Director had shown his displeasure towards Booth, but in the end, there was nothing anyone could do about the treasure. It was in the hands of the Catholic Church and they had already made it known they weren't going to give it back. "Hey, why don't we go dancing? It's not too late."
"That sounds like a wonderful idea Booth and if anyone propositions me, I expect you to not offer me up as a bribe to get something from them." Brennan chuckled. She was getting very amusing as far as she was concerned.
Surprised, Booth shook his head and smiled. "Nah, that won't happen . . . the only one allowed to proposition you is me."
"Well, you may proposition me if you wish to." Brennan stopped and stared at Booth. "Someday."
"Yeah, someday." Booth offered his arm to Brennan and she hooked her arm around his. "Soon. Someday soon."
