(Aliens in a Spaceship)

Thank you for reviewing my story. I appreciate it.

I don't own Bones.

Ooooooooooooooooo

After they had left the church, Booth had driven Brennan home. Though she said she was fine, Booth could tell that she was still in a state of agitation. She was having trouble sitting still and she was constantly moving around the apartment. Worried for his partner, Booth had feigned being too tired to drive home and out of concern for her friend, Brennan had asked him to stay in the guest bedroom overnight. The thought of Booth sleeping in the apartment allowed her to relax and she finally withdrew to her bedroom where she prepared for bed.

Awake in the guest bedroom, Booth had listened to muffled noises coming from Brennan's bedroom and knew that she was getting ready for bed. After a while, the noises stopped and he assumed she had finally laid down to rest. He didn't know if she would get any sleep, but he knew that she was exhausted and he hoped that she would get some sleep. He was tired too, but he tried to stay awake for a while just in case Brennan needed him. The quiet of the apartment soon lulled him into a state of sleepiness and for the first time since Brennan had been kidnapped, he relaxed. He had almost lost Brennan and he had a lot to think about, but for the moment he allowed himself to sleep. She was safe just a few feet from him and he was there in case of trouble.

Ooooooooooooooooooo

A sharp rap on the front door awoke Booth from a sound sleep. Stumbling from his bed, he pulled his pants on as someone knocked on the door again. Worried that the noise would wake Brennan, he hurried out of the room, across the living room and yanked the door open.

Peter St. James had expected his ex-girlfriend to open the door and when a half-naked man opened the door, he stepped back in shock. "Does Temperance Brennan still live here?"

Not sure who he was dealing with, Booth placed his hands on his hips and prepared to defend himself if this man had anything to do with Brennan's kidnapping. "It is, but she's asleep. Who are you and what do you want?"

Shocked that Brennan had moved on into a new relationship, Peter felt a little angry that she had found someone else to move into her bed. He had been thinking of her lately and he had hoped that they could hook up again. They had both had communications problems, but the sex had been amazing and he had wanted to try again. "I'm Peter St. James. I used to live here with Temperance . . . we broke up last year."

Booth had heard of Peter before and he knew that Brennan had kicked him out because he was too controlling. If there was one thing he knew about his partner, it was that no one controlled her. "Okay, so you're Peter St. James. You don't live here anymore since she kicked you out, so why are you here?"

Furious that some strange man was questioning him, Peter glared at him. "I would like to speak to Temperance."

"Not going to happen, Sport. She's had a tough day and she's sleeping." Booth folded his arms against his bare chest. "If you want to talk to her call her in the morning and make an appointment."

"How long did it take her to find you?" Peter couldn't believe this was happening. This was not how he had pictured this evening would happen. "You don't look like her type."

Since Peter's attitude was rubbing him the wrong way, Booth smirked. "I've known Temperance for a couple of years now." He knew that the man thought he was Brennan's lover and he didn't care. The guy was unpleasant and he could see why Brennan had kicked him out of her life.

Stepping forward, Peter tried to push Booth out of the way, but he was met by a solid wall of muscle. "I want to talk to her. You have no right to keep me from talking to her."

His hands on each side of the doorway, Booth didn't allow the man to enter the apartment. "Listen Sport, I told you to call her tomorrow. You're not getting in this apartment and that's a fact."

Frustrated, Peter ran his hands through his hair. "I just need to speak to her."

Tired of the conversation, Booth shook his head. "Either you leave or I'll call the cops. Your choice."

Before he could answer, Brennan came up behind Booth and stared at Peter. "What are you doing here?"

Relieved to see his ex, Peter smiled his best smile. "Temperance. I came by to see you, but this goon won't let me in. I told him who I was, but he didn't care."

"Why should he care? I broke up with you a year ago." Brennan didn't understand Peter's logic, but then again, she had never really understood him. "It's after eleven o'clock. I think you should leave."

"Temperance, I thought about how I treated you and I wanted to apologize and I'm asking you to give me another chance." Peter hoped that she could see that what he was offering her was better than the Neanderthal standing in front of her was offering. He was great in bed and she knew it. "Before we stopped talking to each other we were good together. I think we should give our relationship another chance."

Annoyed that Peter seemed to have revised their history in his head, Brennan shook her head. "We were never good together, Peter. You were constantly trying to change me and you tried to use psychology to bolster your talking points. I broke up with you and I have no intention of renewing our relationship. You must leave now, Peter and don't come back."

Devastated, Peter felt his temper rise. "Because of this guy? This . . . this plebeian? You need someone who is your social equal, Temperance. Someone you can talk to and have meaningful conversations with." Stepping forward, he tried to push Booth out of path only to find himself on the floor looking up at a very angry man.

"She told you leave and you're leaving." Booth couldn't believe Peter was being this dense. "You pushed me twice which is assault. Would you like to be arrested for assault? I advise you to leave before I arrest you . . . yeah, I'm a cop."

Suddenly afraid, Peter stood up. "I just wanted to make my case with Temperance."

"You did, now leave Peter." Brennan was embarrassed. She had never experienced anything like this. Peter was acting irrational and Booth was definitely in Alpha-male mode. "We are no longer a couple and we will not be getting back together. Now you must leave and don't come back."

His dream now crushed, Peter glared at Brennan with pure hate. "You're not worth this much trouble." Moving over to the door leading towards the stairwell, Peter looked back and saw the door closing. He had hoped to get back with Temperance, but that wasn't going to happen. "I gave you a second chance, Bitch. Don't come around me when this one dumps your ass or you get tired of him."

Oooooooooooooooooo

Standing in the middle of the living room with her arms crossed against her robed breasts, Brennan stared at the closed door and wondered why Peter had shown up after a year's absence. "I don't know why he came here. We broke up over a year ago."

Careful not to embarrass her further, Booth made sure the front door was locked and walked over to the open doorway leading to the guest bedroom. "He was probably feeling lonely or something or maybe he was drunk, who knows. I wouldn't worry about it Bones. You told the guy not to comeback and that should do it. If it doesn't you let me know. I'll have a talk with him in an official capacity."

"I don't need your protection Booth." Brennan paused and thought about her partner pulling from the gravel pit earlier that afternoon. "I doubt Peter will be back but if he does, I will make certain he knows not to do it again . . . I'm sorry he woke you. I know you're tired."

"Don't worry about that Bones. You didn't know Peter was going to show up tonight. It's all good." Booth stood in the doorway and smiled at his partner. "Why don't you go back to bed? We can both use a good night's sleep."

Exhausted, Brennan walked back towards her room. "Goodnight, Booth. I'll see you in the morning."

"Yes, you will." Booth closed the bedroom door and leaned against it waiting to hear Brennan's bedroom door close. Once he was certain she was in her room, Booth returned to his bed. "Imagine some asshole showing up expecting a booty call from Bones. What a loser."

Staring at the ceiling, Booth smiled. He was glad that Brennan wasn't in a relationship with Peter. The guy was obviously disrespectful and she could do a lot better than Peter. A hell of a lot better.

Oooooooooooooooo
