I've been wanting to do a fanfic for Snow Day for a long time now. It's my favorite childhood movie, and I watched it again back in December. ^_^

This is basically an extended ending to the movie. I had it told in Hal's point of view. It just seemed right. :)

It's not one of my best works, but I wanted to do this, and I'm glad I wrote this fic. It just came to me this afternoon.

It's too bad that Snow Day doesn't have it's own category. :\ I kind of hoped it would have one. Oh well.

So, anyways, enjoy this fanfic. =)

Snow stretches on as far as the eye can see, glittering in the sun like diamonds. Kids okay, laughing, cheering, just having a good time. I look on at the triumph before me, relishing the fact that we won. We managed to create a second snow day. It was thanks to my sister Natalie and her friends. Through all that turmoil, I managed to make a few surprises myself.

I did everything to make Claire Bonner falling love with me and be my girlfriend. I was surprised that day. I did everything to impress her. I worked the whole day to make a whale out of snow. I worked hard on it, only to have my work invalidated when I found out Claire liked zebras. I was disappointed, but I wouldn't let it get me down. But the real surprise was when I found out Lane had feelings for me. She kissed me and I was downright stupefied, but it's not like I didn't like it. I never knew she felt that way about me, and now with everything that's happened I can proudly say I'm glad it happened.

I never thought Lane and I would end up together. I mean, she's always been there for me when I needed her. She's a great friend, she listens, she gets along with my sister and little brother. She's always there, and I never looked at her that way.

I guess I was so obsessed with Claire Bonner to really know Lane the way I thought I knew. The way I was with finding every little thing about Claire, I should've been that way with Lane. What a fool I was.

I know they say that love is a mysterious thing. And it's true. Love is a mysterious, fickle, potent thing. You don't know how you're going to feel about someone one minute or the next. I wanted to cling to my crush on Claire after Lane kissed me that I didn't want to accept that my feelings were changing. I admit that I wanted to stubbornly hold on to my fantasy, but now I'm okay with the new one I've made.

"Woohoo!"

I see Natalie slide down the wide hill on a sled with her friends. There's Wayne and Chet with their sleds. They really made it happen. A second snow day. I watch them until they reach the bottom and they get back up to start again.

"Hey!"

I turn over and see Lane waving to me. She approaches. She has a smile on her face that's sure to melt all of this snow. I used to think the same with Claire Bonner. Now things are changing.

"Hey you," says Lane. She flings her arms around me. She kisses me, and I kiss back, wrapping my arms around her waist. "How's it going?," she says as soon as she pulls away.

"Good." I look around the snow-laden landscape. The sun's light makes the snow look like it were powdered in glitter.

"Hey, there's Natalie," she points out.

Natalie trudges up the snowy hill. Behind her, Wayne and Chet are dragging their own sleds.

"How is she?"

"She's fine," I answer.

"Hi, Lane," pipes Natalie.

"Hi, Natalie." Lane gives her a smile. A smile that's clear like the snow itself.

"Isn't it great?," chirps Natalie. "A second snow day."

"Yeah," said Lane, "it sure is." She gazes at the winter wonderland that surrounds us.

"Hey, Natalie!," calls Wayne. "Wanna go again?"

"Sure," says Natalie, waving to him. "I'll be right there; just wait for me."

"You got it." Chet gives her a thumbs up.

Natalie turns back to us, smiling evenly.

"What were guys talking about?," she asks. Gotta love her curiosity.

"Nothing," I reply in the hopes that she will leave.

"I saw you two kissing just now," she says cheekily. You gotta love how she's smarter than she lets on. You got love that about kids.

"Yeah, well," I say, "what's wrong with that? Lane is my girlfriend now."

"I'm glad," answers Natalie. "I think you two make a better couple than Claire and Chuck."

"Ah, I'm over her. "I say, which is in fact true.

"Right, well," says Natalie. She looks at something behind us. "Here comes Miss Perfect." She cocks her head forward.

I turn around and I see Claire walking up to us, getting snow on her exquisite boots.

"Hey! Natalie!" It's Chet calling her.

"I'd better get going," quips Natalie. Before she goes, she points a finger at me, saying, "Don't forget about what we have planned tonight."

"I won't forget," I reiterate.

"What's tonight?," asks Lane.

"I agreed to have movie night with Natalie." I say. "It's all to celebrate the second snow day."

"I would've thought you'd do something else," says Lane.

"We'll think of something else tomorrow," answers Natalie. She looks over at Wayne and Chet, who have had enough time waiting. "I'll see you guys later."

I watch my sister trudge back to her friends, taking her sled with her. She and her friends get on their sleds and slide down, cheering in euphoria.

"Hey guys," says Claire.

I turn around to see her standing before me and Lane. She has a smile on her face. A smile that let's me know that everything's alright. To think I spent countless of times trying to win her over when it turns out my heart had fooled me.

"Hi, Claire," says Lane. There's no resentment in her voice, no spite. Just..causal banter. She's okay with me not thinking of Claire that way anymore. And I'm glad.

"Hey," I finally say.

"I just came to say hi," replies Claire, shivering from a brisk breeze that suddenly blows in, "and to see how you were doing."

"We're great," I answer.

"Yeah," retorts Lane, "we're fine." She smiles back, letting her know she's welcomed and she holds no ill will toward her. I'm glad we can all be friends. "So," quips Lane, "how's Chuck?"

"Chuck?," remarks Claire incredulously, raising an eyebrow. "Please Chuck and I are so over."

"Just thought I'd ask." Lane tries to be playful without also being sympathetic.

"Well," I utter, "you deserve better than him."

Lane glances at me quizzically. She suspects something and I don't blame her. But I am right about what I said.

"Yeah, you're right," answers Claire, "I don't know what I saw in him."

"What are you going to do now?," queries Lane.

"Oh," says Claire, glancing to her left briefly, then back at us, "I don't know. There's a lot of fish in the sea."

"You do have a heap-load of admirers," quips Lane. And that's true.

"Right, yeah." Claire looks up skyward, squinting at the sun's glare. "I don't know where to choose from. I think I'm gonna take a break from dates and boyfriends, and just focus on me."

"That's admirable," comments Lane, which is no exaggeration. I also think the same.

"It's good," I say, "you should figure out what you want before you get out there."

"Thanks," says Claire, smiling.

"Wanna hang out with us?" I offer, hoping Lane won't be bothered by the suggestion.

"Yeah," replies Claire, "I'd like to hang out."

"Cool," says Lane. To my surprise, she doesn't sound bothered by my offer. "Come on."

"'Kay," retorts Claire, folding her arms under her chest. It's to stifle the cold.

The three of us trudge down the hill, watching the world peel out before us. The grove of pines across the other side are covered in glittering white snow with their needles poking out. The sky is blue, there's not a cloud in the sky. I feel everything fall into place.

"So you like zebras?," quips Lane.

She's still going on with that.

"Yeah, I do," says Claire.

"Why is that?," I ask. I am in fact curious to know.

"I dunno," answers Claire, "I like their colors, and they run fast."

"I think zebras are cool," remarks Lane.

"Same here," I add.

Claire smiles.

With all we've been through. Me trying to get Claire's ankle bracelet back to her and hoping she'd be my girlfriend. It's quite a surprise how things turned out. I have Lane by my side now, we got a second snow day, and the universe is safe. I faced Chuck head on, I helped my sister overthrow Snowplow Man, and the world seems to be smiling back at me. Things for everyone else just came their way, and I wouldn't change a thing.

This wouldn't have been possible without Lane, and Natalie. Her friends, Wayne and Chet. And of course, my own perseverance. But I wouldn't have done this without Meltar. It goes to show you what you can do with friendship and hardwork.

I guess it's true that anything can happen on a snow day.

I thought that while it was still winter I'd get this fic over and done with. Reviews are always appreciated. Again, it's too bad this movie doesn't have it's own category. *shrugs*

Thank you for reading my story.
