(After Season 12)
Thank you for reviewing my story. I appreciate it.
I don't own Bones.
Oooooooooooooooo
"Hello, I'm Stacy Goodyear with Wake Up DC! Joining me this this morning is Dr. Temperance Brennan. She's the author of the best-selling Kathy Reich mystery novels . . . Good morning, Dr. Brennan. It's been a while since you've been on the show and I imagine quite a lot has happened in your life since then." It had been four years since Stacy had last interviewed Brennan and she thought she knew what to expect. Six interviews in 12 years. Where had the time gone?
Brennan hadn't really wanted to come on the show, but her agent had insisted. Her new book had just been released and as the author she needed to promote her book. After all, if she didn't do it who would? "Yes, it has."
With thoughts of the last interview she had done with Brennan, Stacy knew that she'd have to ask more in-depth questions if she wanted in-depth answers. Dr. Brennan wasn't chatty and that was a fact. "Um, when I interviewed you in 2005 you told me that you were never going to have children. Over the years during various interviews here on Wake Up DC! we've never talked about it again, but I thought I'd mention that for those of you watching this program and don't realize it, Dr. Brennan is the mother of two children . . . Dr. Brennan what made you change your mind about children?"
Surprised that this particular question had come up, Brennan decided that honesty was the best policy. "I met a man who changed my mind about love. When I was younger, I believed that love was just the brain reacting to dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin and endorphins. I hadn't experienced love in my life until I met my partner and he showed me that love is real and that it doesn't fade over time or when it's expedient. Because I could trust this man, I knew he would stay with me and not leave me. My children were a result of trusting Booth." Of course, her children had been the result of unprotected sex, but that wasn't really anyone's business but hers and Booth's. "You have to trust your partner if you wish to have progeny. It wouldn't be in the best interest of the child if the father walked away from your relationship after producing a child. It would be unfair to the child."
"Um, yes, you have a point." Okay then, maybe it would be better to talk about her book. "So, in your latest book, Kathy and Andy investigate a murder that leads them to a man who has a vendetta against Andy because of something that happened in his past . . . this sounds similar to what you experienced last year in real life wasn't it? I mean the Lab where you work was blown up by someone who had a grudge against your husband. Thankfully no one was killed."
"I sometimes use things that have happened in my past in my stories. It lends a certain amount of authenticity to my story." Brennan thought this was obvious, but apparently not.
Well, that was interesting confession. "So, when you wrote about what Kathy and Andy did on page 187 in your book 'Bone of Contention' you were writing from experience? In the past, you've said you didn't get together with Agent Booth until 2011, but page 187 was written in 2009."
"I have never understood the obsession about what happened on one page of one of my books. Three paragraphs it only covers three paragraphs and yet that is what every interviewer asks me about." Brennan found the whole thing annoying. She had written millions of words since she first started publishing magazine articles and novels and yet all anyone ever seemed to remember was three paragraphs in one book. "My husband and I were just friends and partners in 2009. We did not have sex until we started a relationship in 2011."
Oops, her producer was yelling in her ear. This is a God damned morning show Stacy. Move on or I'll stop this interview right now! Damn it! "Yes of course. So, in your latest book, you didn't blow up the Lab like happened in real life, but you did blow up Andy's office at the Hoover."
Grateful that the interviewer had decided not to talk about page 187 anymore, Brennan gave her a slight smile. "I thought it would be more dramatic if a Federal building was involved instead of a science lab. There are stringent security procedures to get into the Hoover, so if someone was able to plant bombs in the Hoover then that would make that villain an interesting nemesis."
Good Stacy. Don't mention anymore sexy pages in the book. "The nemesis in your book is very resourceful. I don't want to give too much away since I know there are fans of your books that haven't read it yet. Let's just say the ending is explosive. Thanks a lot Stacy. Now every Brennan fan is going to complain that you gave away the ending. I'm going to make you handle those calls you idiot. "I know that many of your fans will be interested in knowing if you have any book signings coming up soon."
"Yes, I have two in the District, one in Philadelphia, one in Toronto, one in Los Angeles and one in Houston. The dates and times can be found on my webpage. I look forward to meeting my fans. I appreciate that they continue to read my novels and I hope they enjoy this one. Booth told me to say that. I hope I haven't over commercialized my book.
"Thank you for joining us, Dr. Brennan." Stacy turned to face the camera. "Next we will be talking to Dr. Cameron Thibodeuax about climate change and how it is affecting the Gulf Coast." A commercial now playing, Stacey faced Brennan again. "Thank you for coming back on my show. I really do love your books and I love that you're a consistent author and release new books at least every three years."
Glad the interview was over Brennan removed her microphone from her jacket lapel and held it in her hand. "I have a list of story ideas and start plotting out one of those ideas for a new book after the last one is published."
Damn it Stacy, why didn't you get her to say that while we were on air! "That is so interesting Dr. Brennan. Thank you for coming on the show."
Oooooooooooooooooo
"So how did your interview go?" Booth had made sure their children had been taken to day care and to school that morning while Brennan was doing her interview, so he missed seeing it.
She had just arrived home and was checking to see how Booth was progressing with dinner. It was her turn to cook, but Booth was hungry for chili and he'd volunteered to cook. "It was successful I think . . . Stacy mentioned page 187. I wish that interviewers would find something else to ask about. It is boring when they ask the same questions over and over again. Of course, this is the first time Stacy has mentioned page 187. I was surprised that she didn't mention it when 'Bone of Contention' was first published."
"Ha! I don't think she should have been asking about it today. Wake Up DC! is a morning show and some kids might be up and watching it." Booth wasn't sure what Ms. Goodyear was thinking, but he bet (not really) that the TV station was going to get a lot of complaints. "I'm glad Christine didn't see that interview. She might be asking us about page 187 right now if she did."
"What's page 187, Dad?" Christine had heard her mother enter the house and wanted to tell her about her perfect score on her English test.
His cheeks scarlet, Booth turned back to his chili pot and stirred the contents vigorously. "It's just a joke, Honey. An adult joke, you wouldn't understand."
Brennan shook her head. Her husband was such a prude sometimes, but on the other hand, page 187 was a little too much for an eight year old to handle even if she did understand reproduction. "Yes, Honey, it's just a joke I talk about sometimes. I'll tell it to you when you're older . . . How was school today?"
"I got a perfect on my English test, Mom. I was the only one." Christine was very proud of her grade. She had studied the previous evening unlike Bobby Johnson who had got half the words wrong. "I have a history test tomorrow. I want to make a perfect score for that one too. Will you help me study for the test?"
"Of course, I will Honey. We can start now and finish after dinner." Proud of her daughter, Brennan kissed Booth and left the room with her daughter.
Glad that Christine had let the subject of page 187 go, Booth strode into the living room, looked for the book "Bone of Contention' and placed it on the top shelf out of the reach of his daughter. He knew that his little girl had inherited her mother's nosiness or as Brennan called it her need to do research and there was no way he wanted to explain page 187 to his little girl, not now not ever.
Oooooooooooooooo
Let me know what you think of my story. Thank you.
