(After Season 12)

A/N: mphs95 and Galaxiegurl wanted a sequel to chapter 151.

I don't own Bones.

Up until now, Christine hadn't felt it was important to read her mother's mystery novels. She had so much to do in school and reading mysteries never really interested her. After all her parents were in the law and order business and catching bad guys was their profession. She didn't need to read about fictional law enforcement agencies when there were so much more out there to read.

That changed when her best friend Emma gushed about Brennan's book 'Bone of Contention'. "Girl you've got to read' Bone of Contention'. I almost died when I read about what Kathy and Andy did on page 187 and later on page 203. Your parents must be so hot!"

"My parents? What do you mean my parents?" Christine had no idea what Emma was talking about and she wasn't sure she wanted to know.

"Oh my God Christine, the main characters in the book, Kathy and Andy are based on your parents. Everyone knows that." Emma could not get over how her best friend was so ignorant when it came to the Kathy Reichs Books. It was embarrassing sometimes. "Haven't you ever read one of them? All you need to do is read one to see it's true for goodness sake."

Feeling a little uncertain, Christine crossed her arms against her chest. "Mom says that her characters in her books are not based on her or Dad or anyone that we know."

Amused, Emma placed her right hand over her mouth and giggled. "She's lying to you, Christine. She is Kathy and Andy it your Dad and oh my God, the things they do in those books." She waved her hand in front of her face. "Whew."

"Well, I hate mystery novels, so I'm not going to read them. I like Science-Fiction better and I'm reading a historical novel about Amelia Earhart and I'm having a hard time putting it down." Christine wanted to change the subject of their conversation. Emma just never seemed to get the hint when she didn't want to talk about something. "Hey, I bought that new nail polish yesterday. Do you want to see it?"

"Oh my God yes." Emma loved fingernail polish. She loved anything that drew attention to herself.

Thank God. "Great and Mom bought me a new blouse we saw at the store. Wait until you see it."

She knew that curiosity killed the cat or least that's what her Aunt Cam told her when she was asking questions she shouldn't, but darn it, Emma made the book 'Bone of Contention' sound like it was porn or something and she knew her mother didn't write like that. She needed to read it for herself to assure herself that her mother was who she thought she was. Picking a quiet Saturday morning, Christine took the book from the top shelf in the living room and started to read it. She continued to read it when she could and on Sunday afternoon she had finally reached page 187, the page that had Emma all excited about. Tense, she read the page and as she read it, she felt her cheeks become hot. Glancing at the mirror above her dresser she saw that her cheeks were flaming red and her eyes were wide. She thought she looked like a deer caught on the road in some headlights. Her gaze back on the page, she finished reading through the sex scene, closed the book, dropped it on the floor and closed her eyes. "No, oh no." Her friends had read this book, not just Emma but Stacy and Rita and Howard. Oh my God, Howard had read it. No wonder he'd been acting oddly around her mother lately. Mortified, Christine wasn't sure whether to cry or just move to a convent. Were there other options?

"Christine! I've called your name three times. What's the problem?" Booth leaned into the room holding his hand on the doorknob. "You promised to help your mother prepare her garden this afternoon."

Embarrassed, Christine couldn't look at her father. Keeping her eyes on the floor, she stood up, crossed the room and moved past him into the hallway. Once she was through the hallway, she ran across the living room and out the back door, slamming it closed behind her.

"What the hell?" Booth found his daughter's behavior very odd even for a seventeen year old girl. Scanning the bedroom, he spied a book on the floor. Entering the room, he leaned over, picked it up and turned it over to read the title. "Fuck!" He had known these books were going to be a problem when his kids got older, but he had hoped that Christine's dislike of mystery novels might spare him this problem. Now he just prayed that his daughter didn't want to talk to him about it. Please God, I try to be a good father, but I don't want to deal with this. Don't make me have to talk to my little girl about this.

Spying her mother in the corner of the yard where she raised her herbs and some vegetables, Christine jammed her hands in her pants pockets and walked slowly over to where her mother was standing. Once she was close enough, she stared at her toes and cleared her throat. "I'm here."

"Good, I think I'll plant the herbs in the boxes first." Oddly, her daughter didn't respond which was out of character. Turning she noticed her daughter staring at the ground. "Is there a problem?"

"Yes, there's a problem." Christine looked at her mother and crossed her arms against her chest. "There's a big problem."

Her child acting very oddly, Brennan couldn't imagine what this big problem was. "About the herb boxes?"

"Oh my God, Mom, no . . . not the herb boxes." Christine didn't know where to begin. She and her mother never had any trouble talking to each other, but this was different. "I . . . I don't . . . I read your book, Bone of Contention."

Not really sure why her book would upset her daughter, Brennan placed her hands on her hips. "I thought you didn't read murder mysteries. You find them boring."

"Yeah, well I read this one." Embarrassed, Christine wasn't sure where to look and finally settled on the toes of her shoes. "Are Kathy and Andy based upon you and Dad?"

"Of course not, I've told you that before." Why did people keep asking her that? Brennan could clearly see that the characters in her book were unique but no one else seemed to see it. It was irritating that was for certain. "They are unique characters. Just look at their backgrounds and you can see that they're not your based upon anyone you know."

She didn't know if her mother was that naïve or not, but she hoped it was that and not just lying. Turning her gaze upon her mother, she tried to speak in a calm manner. "Mom, I've read most of 'Bone of Contention' and maybe you did it subconsciously, but Kathy and Andy are you and Dad. They're really are."

Not willing to concede, Brennan shook her head. "Is that why you're upset with my book? What would it matter if you did see me and your father in some fictional characters? How is it meaningful in anyway?"

Christine wanted to scream with frustration but she knew that would not get her anywhere. She had to use a calm reasonable voice or her mother would stop listening. "Look, I read page 187. Now do you see why it's meaningful?"

"Page 187?" Brennan had grown to hate those three paragraphs. It was the most talked about sentences she had ever written and she had written millions of sentences. "It's a sex scene that I wrote while your father and I were just partners. We were not romantically involved at the time. The fact is we didn't have sex until over a year after that book was released."

"Really?" Christine wasn't sure if she should be relieved or not. Everyone still assumed that Kathy and Andy were her mother and father. "I mean you didn't do that with Dad?"

Amused, Brennan tried to keep from smiling. "We did enjoy doing that a few times after we got together but not when I wrote it . . . Your Aunt Angela told me about it when I was writing my book and I thought it might be interesting to add in the story. If I had known that some of my fans were going to become obsessed, I would have never written those three paragraphs."

"Aunt Angela told you about it for your book? I mean you didn't invent that . . . move?" Now Christine was confused. "I thought you wrote your books."

"Angela used to help me with my books. She actually was given some of the royalties because of it. I started writing them without outside input after 'Bone of Contention' came out." Mostly because she never wanted to have another fan obsessed scene in her books again.

Since she believed her Aunt was capable of anything, Christine accepted what her mother told her. "So, you didn't come up with that scene, but you and Dad did it later, after you became a couple."

"Yes." Brennan was always honest with her children, or she tried to be.

"I think I can work with that." Christine could tell her friends that her Aunt co-wrote the book. Yeah, that will definitely help. Still, I'm going to have to read the other books to make sure there aren't any more surprises waiting for me.

Her child hadn't really said anything for a few minutes and Brennan wanted to make sure Christine was finished with page 187 before they started working on the garden. "Would you like me to explain page 187?"

"What? No . . . no, Mom that's okay. It was pretty graphic, I'm sure I got it." The last thing Christine wanted was an in-depth discussion about page 187. It was bad enough her parents had actually done it and to talk about it was just a bit too much. "So, what herbs do you want to plant in that box." Christine pointed at the left box and hoped that was the end of the conversation.

Brennan would never ridicule her daughter, but the child had her father's prudish tendencies. The man wasn't a prude when it came to their sex life, but he was a prude when it came to talking about it. She had always thought the dichotomy to be rather odd. "You do know that you can talk to me about anything don't you?"

"Sure, Mom I know, thanks." Christine appreciated her mother's honesty and open candor. She knew that some of her friends didn't have a reliable source when it came to the important stuff.

Standing in the kitchen next to the window, Booth watched Christine talking to Brennan near the garden. He witnessed his daughter's rather animated talk and from just watching her body language he knew that she was upset but by the end of the conversation Christine was relaxed. Brennan had appeared to be annoyed during part of the conversation, but afterward she too was calm. "Good, this is good." Now he just hoped that Christine didn't read anymore Kathy Reichs books. Page 84 in her latest book practically melted the ink from the page and the last thing he wanted to do was explain it to his daughter. Page 84 was his special move and he hadn't been too happy when he found out that Brennan had included it in her book, but he had to admit that it was pretty good and it would probably become more popular than page 187. "The price of fame I guess.'
