(The Mummy in the Maze)

Thank you for reviewing my story. I appreciate it.

I don't own Bones.

Oooooooooooooooooooo

They looked like Hell warmed over and felt like it too. The last few hours had been frantic and doing their job while dressed as Clark Kent and Wonder Woman had added to the bizarreness of the situation.

Much to Booth's anger and annoyance Brennan had shot at a lock with that big cannon of a gun she owned and the bullet ricocheted and hit the outside of his right leg. Then, they'd wandered around a tunnel connected to the subway looking for a kidnapped victim. Once she was found, everything seemed to speed up. The room the girl was in was filled with snakes which terrified Brennan. After hoping on Booth's back, they had entered the room to check on Megan Shaw who was hunched over in the corner crying out meaningless words of terror. As they approached her, her kidnapper Pete Gellar shot into the room causing Booth to drop Brennan on the filthy snake covered floor.

The chaos continued as Booth went after Gellar with Brennan's gun since she was afraid her gun was useless to her. In a running fight with the paramedic, Booth was grazed on his side with a shot from Gellar. In desperation, Booth had shot through a steel door and killed the kidnapper with the last bullet in Brennan's gun. It had been a hell of a shot.

Anyone looking at them had to wonder what in the world they were supposed to be on that Holliday night. Booth's shirt and pants were bloody from his own blood. Brennan's hair was disheveled, her face, arms and legs were dirty and they were both sweaty. As Brennan had said, they looked like Clark Kent and Wonder Woman on a very bad date.

"You hungry?" Booth didn't want to go to the Halloween Party anymore. He was tired, he was dirty and he didn't want to explain to a room of nosy squints why he looked the way he did.

"Yes I am." Brennan was hungry and could hear her stomach growling in protest.

Standing up, Booth moved towards the Lab entrance with Brennan following him. Aware of a strange noise behind him, he turned to see his partner whirling around on her feet. "What the hell are you doing?"

"Nothing." A little embarrassed, Brennan didn't want to admit that for just a moment, she wanted to whirl like the real Wonder Woman did so her clothes would be changed to civilian clothes. It was a silly thing to do and filled with whimsy, but the night had been a rather strange night anyway.

Not sure what his partner had been up to, Booth decided not to mention it. It just seemed that whirling around in a costume that she was barely wearing seemed a little bit dangerous.

Oooooooooooooooo

Surprised that more eyebrows hadn't been raised when they entered the diner, Booth moved down towards their table while Brennan ducked into the bathroom to wash her face, arms and hands. Rolling around on the floor with snakes had exposed her to unsanitary conditions. Snakes are known to be carriers of salmonella, botulism and campylobacteriosis. Since she was planning to eat, she thought it was best to make sure she was fairly clean.

Once she was seated, Brennan pointed at Booth's hands. "You've been exposed to salmonella, botulism and campylobacteriosis this evening. The side effects can be quite devastating."

His cheeks a faint red, Booth stood up, walked over to the bathroom and entered it. It wasn't normal for anyone to have to remind him to wash his hands, so he wasn't sure why he hadn't thought of it. Maybe he was just too tired to think. His hands and wrists scrubbed clean Booth sat back down at the table. "Thanks for the reminder. The last thing I want is to end up in the hospital . . . This has been a crazy night. Snakes, subway tunnels, killer clowns . . . I think I could use a few quiet days."

In agreement, Brennan nodded her head as she looked over the menu. "You know I've been around snakes before. I find it odd that I had that kind of reaction earlier." It was puzzling. She'd dealt with snakes on digs and yet she'd made a fool of herself in the subway tunnel. It was irritating.

"Come on, Bones." Booth didn't want Brennan to be embarrassed. "It was a room full of snakes. Probably a hundred. Normally, most people deal with one or two snakes not a hundred."

"Yes, that is true." Brennan hoped that she wasn't developing ophidiophobia. She had to be able to work in jungles and forests and to be afraid of snakes could put her into awkward situations. "It might have been the sheer number."

"There you go." Looking over the menu, Booth decided on a bowl of vegetable soup, a grilled cheese sandwich, some fries and a vanilla shake. Once he gave the server the order, Booth placed the menu back behind the napkin holder. "It's too bad you didn't go to the Halloween party. You might have won the costume contest."

Sipping some water, Brennan noticed Angela enter the diner, walk over to the cash register, pay for an order to go and leave. "I have won in the past, but it's possible that the novelty is gone and someone else would have won. Cam's costume was interesting."

Admiring Brennan's cleavage, Booth decided that he was too interested, grabbed his glass of water and drank it down. "Well, I like your costume. Like I said before, it's wonderful."

Brennan didn't care for puns that much, but she knew that Booth was proud of his joke. "Yes, you did say that." She moved her arms below her breasts and leaned them on the table. It made her breasts stand out further, but she had noticed Booth ogling her and she decided it did no harm for him to look. After all he was an alpha male and she was very beautiful. "I am glad tomorrow is Saturday. I plan to sleep late."

His heart beating a little faster, Booth found that he was unable to stop looking at Brennan's breasts and was grateful when their food arrived. "Hey, look at that. God I'm hungry." With his food in front of him, Booth kept his eyes on his bowl of soup while Brennan ate her vegetable stir fry. Since Brennan was now busy eating, her arms partially covered her breasts much to Booth's relief. Down Boy. She's your partner. She's your friend. Just look at something else. "I have some laundry to do and I have a hockey game tomorrow afternoon . . . If you'd like to come let me know. I know you don't really care for organized sports, but hockey is fun and you can study the players, maybe do a paper on hockey and it's impact on something or other . . . if you want to."

"I think I'd like that, Booth." Brennan had never been to any of Booth's games, but maybe it was time she went to at least one. Wasn't that what friends did for friends? "I'll meet you at the ring."

"Rink." Booth smiled. "Thanks. Maybe we can go out to eat dinner afterward."

That sounded like a fine way to spend a Saturday afternoon. "I'll look forward to it." She had never had a friend like, Booth. He made her life interesting and she had written several papers because of his suggestions. He's quite intelligent, in his own way.

"Good, it's a date." He saw the look on her face and smiled. "Not a real date, Bones. We're just going to hang out because we're friends."

"Yes, and that is what friends do."

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooo
