Gaze
By Major Mike Powell III
Love was in the air surrounding the Lion King herself as she suddenly stopped in her tracks along a simple patrol along the defensive wall that surrounded her great city. No threats to be concerned today, but Artoria Lancer just wanted to personally watch over Camelot outside, not just sitting on her throne. A great King didn't just sit on her bottom all day.
Besides, if Lancer Saber hadn't gone out on this patrol, then she never would have had the perfect timing to gaze upon holy beauty like she was now.
"...so beautiful..."
The three Minor Knights that had volunteered to be Artoria's escorts for this patrol along the top of the towering defensive wall shared a glance.
"...Your Highness?" The leader of the three took a step forward, the other two standing back at attention.
"Yes?" Artoria didn't even turn to answer her knight's inquiry, instead she just kept gazing in the direction, downwards towards the main open market of Camelot where she stood, admired, respected, beloved by the common folk of the city.
"Might I ask who has caught your gaze, My Liege?" The Knight asked and Artoria moved her free hand, the other gripping her Holy Lance securely, to idly brush some of her silky blonde locks behind her ear.
"So beautiful, isn't she?" She said softly and the knight didn't know whether she spoke to him or herself.
"A-Ah, her, Lady Jeanne?" The knight finally caught on. "Oh yes, she is. She really is. She's your beloved, yes, Your Highness?" He asked to confirm and Artoria nodded.
"Yes, she is...and I still sometimes can't believe I have a place in her heart like she does in mine." The Lancer replied, her gaze following every movement Jeanne made, how her beautiful white dress flowed gracefully even while combined with her glossy armor, her beautiful blonde mane of hair flowing like water over her back, even how the cute little pendants at the corners of her crown jiggled this way and that as she moved, looking around the marketplace looking for an item to purchase.
"I see." The knight said curtly, taking a step back to join his two comrades, knowing that the Lion King's attention would take quite a bit of time to stray from Jeanne.
Artoria then witnessed an absolutely heartwarming sight: a pair of children, brother and sister, their lovely mother standing with them, offering Jeanne d'Arc a beautiful bouquet of freshly-picked violets and lilies.
The Holy Maiden blushed but she eagerly accepted the tribute offered by the beat-red-blushing brother while the sweet sister hopped up and down with a beautiful snow-white lily in her hand, asking for something that Artoria couldn't quite hear.
Then, the royal blonde gasped softly and couldn't help but let her normally stoic expression melt away into a tender little smile as she saw Jeanne nod happily and bend down slightly so that the little girl could gently and carefully weave the beautiful white lily in her hands into the just-as-beautiful blonde mane of Jeanne. The little one clapped happily and cheered as the French Saint stood up and softly caressed the flower now tucked safely in her hair, Jeanne smiling beautifully and doing the perfect gestures of a blessing for the family that just gave her this tribute.
"So beautiful. I'm blessed." Artoria uttered and she blushed, caught off-guard by the sweet smile of Jeanne as the French blonde finally sensed the Lancer's intense, lovestruck gaze on her and she waved happily at her.
Artoria smiled back, giving her beloved a curt bow...and then she coudn't help herself but bring her free hand to her lips...and blow a kiss to Jeanne, who blushed a pretty pink but happily caught the kiss in mid-air...and then brought her closed hand to her own lips, winking at Artoria as she "tucked" her beloved's kiss under her chest armor. Jeanne then patted the spot above her heart.
"Lord, I'm truly blessed." Artoria said in pure wonder and then, she longed to see Jeanne again after the blonde walked around the corner with a spring in her step and left the Lion King's field of view.
Lancer Saber smiled slightly as she turned to her knights and nodded.
"Knights, to me. Let us continue our patrol." She said with authority yet her smile remained. The three knights took just half-a-second to stand at attention again.
"Y-Yes, Your Highness!" They chorused and returned to their King's side as she turned back to the path along the defensive wall, her silky red cape flowing gracefully with the motion.
Love was in the air around her, indeed, the love she proudly carried for Jeanne d'Arc and her breath-taking beauty.
