Tales of horrors, stalking the night and preying upon victims. They can be found in most any society. Wether it is to keep unruly children in check or to warn you of the real dangers lurking in the dark, these stories will continue to haunt all sapient life.

A creature, three meters in length, adorned in grey torn robes. It's two meter long arms with each segment of each finger about a decimeter in length hang off it's sides, it's sharp claws dripping with a dark ichor. The creature's head is covered in a dark hood, it's eyes completely black with white pupils. Perhaps the most distressing feature on it's face is the complete lack of a lower jaw. The same dark ichor that drips along it's fingers drools out of the space where it's missing facial feature is supposed to reside.

The creature stands at the edge of a forest, observing a small house. It had come here with a purpose, one that it's kind is not known for. It strides towards the front door with a silence no creature it's size has any right to have, though with a speed fitting it's long legs.

Reaching a spindly hand towards the door, the creature turns the door handle and opens the door, as if the fact that the door is locked is only a suggestion; a suggestion which was promptly ignored.

The creature steps into the house, instinctually knowing that it's goal is on the second floor. Deftly stepping over and manoeuvring around furniture, the creature makes its way up the stairs, immediately setting its sights on one door in particular when it reaches the top.

It reaches and opens this door, just as silently as the front door, gazing into the room.

Upon a twin-sized bed lies two people. One a blond and muscular male, a soul patch adorning his face, one a red and black-haired female, a visible bulge indicating the imminent birth of new life.

The creature stands by the side of the bed where the woman lies, gazing. It reaches a long bony finger towards the bulging belly of the pregnant woman.

"The horrors of the night, the terrors of the mind." The creature's voice whispered in a reverse echo, its speech not even making the slumbering humans twitch, "What once instilled fear, will now bring safety. The path of destiny is yours to pave, the creatures of dread merely the tools for the task, at your service."

Its piece said, a wispy black smoke emanates from the creature's finger, swirling around the swollen stomach of the woman. The smoke disappears into the skin, and the creature pulls its hand back. Its goal is complete, and the creature wastes no time in stepping out of the room and making its way towards the stairs.

*Sniffle*

The creature turns its head towards the source of the noise. A small blond child stares at the creature in fright, tears freely spilling from her eyes as sound fails to come out of her mouth.

The creature regards the girl carefully, sensing a less recent fear in the child than the one she's currently experiencing from witnessing it. A night terror, the creature realizes.

Before the child can find her voice and alert her guardians, the creature leaps down the stairs, out the door and into the night.

A/N: So, yeah! That's the prologue that I felt like putting out. Don't worry, actual chapters will be longer than that. The idea behind this is for Ruby to have various horror characters and creatures as her guardian angels of sorts. When I say various horror characters, I mean from things such as creepy pasta, The SCP foundation, Dead by Daylight, Trevor Henderson art, and possibly others if they come to mind.
