A/N: For my friend Dolores-the-Dip, also known as LivingOnLaughs. A Peanuts/Puzzle Place crossover. I believe that The Puzzle Place was probably the most diverse and underrated show of the 90s. This first set of chapters will be based on the episode, 'Spud Buds'.
It was a beautiful day in the Peanuts Gang's neighborhood. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and kids were playing. Inside the Brown Household, Charlie Brown and Heather were eating breakfast together, beeping each other on the nose, clearly in love. "You're the cutest." Charlie Brown smiled, to which Heather giggled.
"No! You're the cutest!" Heather smiled to which Charlie Brown blushed.
"No you are."
"No you are."
"No you are."
"No you-"
"I GET IT!" Sally screamed, knocking the kid couple off their seats. The blonde 6 year old gagged with disgust while the two continued to smile and giggle. Sally then left the house to go fetch the mail. She saw two letters and a package for Snoopy. Smiling, she took all three pieces of mail back inside the house. "Look at this! I got a letter from my pen pal!"
"You got a pen pal?" asked Charlie Brown.
"Yes! Her name is Kiki Flores. She's from San Antonio. That's in Texas!" Sally smiled. "She cooks chili, and can speak two languages!"
"That's very nice, Sally." Heather smiled sweetly.
"And look Big Brother, you got a letter from your pencil pal!" Sally smiled, waving the letter in Charlie Brown's face. Smiling, the former blockhead grabbed it.
"It must be from Leon MacNeal! He lives in New York City, and he's a wiz in science." Charlie Brown smiled.
"What does it say?" asked an eager Heather.
"I'll tell you later. I better give Snoopy his package." Charlie Brown said after reading who the package is for. He then carried it to the backyard and to Snoopy's doghouse. "Here you go. This came for you."
Snoopy immediately woke up and smiled at the package. Laughing, he opened it and saw a puzzle box of a door. "Hmm?" Snoopy muttered curiously.
"That must be a puzzle. A very big puzzle. Good luck trying to put it together." Charlie Brown smiled as he went back inside. Snoopy opened the box and saw about more than 300 pieces. He then picked out the first piece and started on it.
Back inside the house, Charlie Brown opened his letter. "What does it say, Big Brother?" asked Sally as Charlie Brown remained confused.
"It just says, 'Let's get going. Don't wanna be too late.'" Charlie Brown said, still confused.
"Maybe Leon wants to meet with you today!" Heather smiled.
"I don't know…" Charlie Brown shrugged. "It doesn't say anything else. All there's left is a jigsaw puzzle piece." He pulled out the said piece from his letter. It was the same color as the ones from Snoopy's puzzle.
"That is peculiar." Heather noticed.
"Let me read my letter!" Sally smiled as she opened her letter from Kiki. "I know somewhere. Let me take you there."
"What else does it say?" asked Charlie Brown.
Sally gasped. "Nothing!" she exclaimed before gasping again. "And look!" she pulled out the same jigsaw puzzle piece from her letter. Charlie Brown and Heather gasped.
"You don't think…?" Charlie Brown asked.
"Maybe it's connected with Snoopy's puzzle." Heather guessed.
"Well, I do admit it does seem funny for my pen pal from Texas to send a puzzle piece, but we might as well find out more." Sally said as they reached the backyard to find that Snoopy has gotten a good start on his puzzle, which is actually a 3D puzzle.
"Wow. That looks good, Snoopy!" Heather smiled. "Say, you wouldn't know if there are any pieces missing, would you?" Snoopy shrugged.
"Well, when you get done with the puzzle, give us a whistle if you find something's missing. OK?" asked Charlie Brown to which the beagle nodded. The three then left Snoopy to continue working on his puzzle.
Meanwhile, over at the little league field, Marcie was reading a book when her tomboy friend, Peppermint Patty rushed over. "Hey Marcie! Check this out!" Peppermint Patty happily exclaimed, waving a letter.
"I see you got a letter, sir." Marcie noticed.
"It's from my pen pal, Skye Nakaiye. He lives on a Native American reservation in Arizona." Peppermint Patty smiled.
"That's very good sir. Has he told you about his culture?" asked Marcie.
"He sure has. He's sent me a lot of cool things in his previous letters. Like this bandana." Peppermint Patty smiled, pulling out said bandana and wrapping it around her head. "How do I look?"
"Very nice sir. And a very unique choice of headwear." Marcie smiled. "I don't mean to brag, but I also got a letter from my pen pal, Jody Silver. She lives in Cincinnati."
"What a very weird place to live. Sounds kind of medium. Should we open our letters together?" Peppermint Patty asked.
"Why not?" Marcie smiled as the two did just that, and then turned confused like Charlie Brown did earlier. "That's strange. Mine just says, 'Come on everybody. Let's tell our friends!'"
"Mine just says, 'Got a feeling things will work out great.' And all there's left is a puzzle piece." Peppermint Patty realized with an arched eyebrow.
"I got one too." Marcie realized, pulling out said piece. The two then tried to think of what their letters meant.
"Maybe it's some kind of clue to a scavenger hunt." Peppermint Patty suggested with a smile.
"I wouldn't really know, sir. These letters don't tell us anything else." Marcie said.
"Hi everybody!" Heather smiled as she, Sally, and Charlie Brown approached them.
"Hiya Heather, hiya Sal, hiya Chuck!" Peppermint Patty greeted. "What ya up to?"
"Nothing much. It's been a strange day for us. Me and Sally got letters from our pen pals, but all there's in there is just one sentence, and a puzzle piece." Charlie Brown said.
"Hey! So did we!" Peppermint Patty said as she and Marcie held up their pieces.
"Wow…" Heather muttered. "Maybe this could be connected…"
"I suppose it could…" Charlie Brown said, deep in thought.
"What's going on here?!" Lucy shouted as she and Linus approached their friends.
"Apparently our letters from our pen pals and the puzzle pieces that came with them are connected." Marcie explained.
"Puzzle pieces?" both Van Pelt siblings asked in unison.
"You got them too?" Sally asked.
"Yep. I got this one from my pen pal Benjamin Olafson from South Dakota." Linus explained. "It reads, 'Come along with me to find it. It's everywhere.' What do you suppose that means?"
"Who cares?! But mine is even weirder! It's from my beauty pen pal, Julie Woo from San Francisco!" Lucy said. "It reads, 'I know something that I want to share'."
"So, you guys all got one sentence letters and puzzle pieces from your pen pals?" asked Heather.
"It is very peculiar." Marcie confirmed.
"But what's the connection?" asked Peppermint Patty. They then heard Snoopy whistle.
"It looks like Snoopy's already found it!" Charlie Brown smiled. The seven then rushed back to Snoopy's dog house.
Snoopy and ReRun stood by and admired Snoopy's 3D puzzle which had only six pieces still missing. "Wow Snoopy, that's a very big puzzle you just put together." ReRun smiled. "I wonder where that door could lead too." Just then, his siblings and the rest of his friends approached the two.
"Snoopy, how many pieces are missing?" Charlie Brown panted.
Snoopy looked it over and held out his paws to tell his friends that six pieces were missing.
"Six?!" the kids, minus ReRun, exclaimed. Just then, the six kids' puzzle pieces glowed.
"My piece is glowing, Chuck!" Peppermint Patty exclaimed.
"So is mine!" Sally exclaimed.
"So it is all connected! These pieces must lead to that door!" Charlie Brown smiled.
"But what's on the other side, Charlie Brown?" Heather asked.
"I don't know. But surely it'll be a unique experience." Charlie Brown assured his girlfriend.
"But what about the one sentence letters? Where's the connection in that?" Lucy asked. Snoopy then grabbed the letters, then mixed them up until he smiled and saw a connection. Linus looked over Snoopy's work and smiled.
"They look like lyrics to a song! Try singing your piece first, Lucy." Linus said. Lucy thought the whole situation was crazy, but gave it a try. As she sang, she found her puzzle piece glowed even brighter.
Lucy:
I know something
that I want to share
The kids gasped as the puzzle piece floated out of Lucy's hand and stuck to the door. "That's it! Just sing, and the puzzle will be complete!" Lucy realized.
Sally:
I know somewhere,
let me take you there
Linus:
Come along with me to find it
It's everywhere
Charlie Brown:
Let's get going
Don't wanna be too late
Peppermint Patty:
Got a feeling
Things will work out great
Marcie:
Come on everybody
Let's tell our friends!
Finally, after the last piece fitted onto the door, the door came to life with a sign that read 'The Puzzle Place'.
"The Puzzle Place?" the kids asked in unison.
"Hmmm?" Snoopy muttered.
"What do you think what's in there?" Heather asked.
"Probably just a store filled with puzzles." Sally muttered.
"You don't know that." Peppermint Patty smirked. "It could be anything."
"Like a huge book store filled with puzzling books?" Marcie smiled, to which Peppermint Patty rolled her eyes.
"Well, there's one way to find out. As Kirkergard would say, we need to take a leap into faith." Linus smiled.
"OK. Stay by my side at all times, ReRun." Lucy instructed as she held her little brother's hand.
"Are you coming too, Snoopy?" asked Charlie Brown to which the beagle eagerly nodded. "Alrighty then. Let's explore The Puzzle Place."
Then, one by one, the kids walked through the door and entered, not knowing they were in for the most exciting time of their lives!
