(A/N: Okay, I've got an idea for a good "Donkey Kong" fic. I know that you can't wait to read it, so I'm going to get this show on the road right now!)

It was early October on Kongo Bongo Island. The weather was still warm, but cold weather would be on its way real soon. It's also morning, and I'm sure everyone at Donkey Kong's treehouse is up and about right now! Let's head on over there!

At DK's treehouse, Diddy Kong woke up and saw the sunlight streaming in through his bedroom window.

"Good, the weather's fine, just like it was years ago on this day. Now let's hope it stays like this all day." Diddy said to himself as he got out of bed and started getting dressed.

You see, today was a very special day for Diddy Kong. It was the anniversary of the day he met Dixie Kong, the gorilla his dreams, as DK would put it. And Diddy had planned to celebrate this special day by exploring the island with Dixie at his side. The pair of them loved exploring, so why not spend their anniversary doing something they loved?

(A/N: Okay, the detail of October being the month that Diddy and Dixie met comes from A Heart With No Hope, written by DiddyKF1. Said author has granted me permission to use details from his story in this fic.)

Once Diddy Kong was dressed, he started to put some things in his backpack, things he would need while going exploring with his favorite girl. One of the last items he needed to put in it was something special, something he had been hiding in his dresser, underneath his starry tank-tops.

During their time together, the two had become closer than anything, and Diddy decided that he was now ready to take the next step in his relationship with Dixie. And he was planning on doing that sometime today. What Diddy had been hiding turned out to be a small, black velvet box. He held the small box in one hand, then opened it. Inside was a ring he'd picked out himself at a jewelry store about 2 weeks ago. To Diddy, it was as though the ring was made just for Dixie, and it was the perfect ring to pop the question with, so he bought it.

"I hope she likes this." Diddy said to himself as he closed the box before putting it in the backpack. Since he had pretty much everything packed in there, he closed the backpack. Then he quickly made his bed, nice and neat. With that done, he left the room and made his way to the kitchen, where his family should be having breakfast.

Sure enough, Candy was making French toast, and Jr. was sitting at the table, watching as his dad filled everyone's glasses with Tampico citrus punch.

"Hey, Dad, look! Diddy's awake!" Jr. pointed out to DK.

"Hey, Diddy! How are you feeling, little buddy?" DK asked, seeing his nephew.

"I'm fine, DK." Diddy said, but he sure didn't sound fine.

"You sure? You don't sound like you're fine." DK said as he finished his task and put the juice back in the fridge.

"You know what today is, don't you?" Diddy asked as he joined his cousin at the table.

"I know. Why else do you think I'm making French toast, which I only make on special days?" Candy asked.

"I see you remember that it's the anniversary of the day I met Dixie." Diddy replied.

"What?! That anniversary is today?" DK asked as he took his place at the table.

"Yeah, and that's not all. I'm going to ask Dixie to marry me, remember?" Diddy asked.

"Why are you going to ask her a question like that?" Jr. asked, confused.

"Because I love her." Diddy replied.

"So, why are you not fine?" Jr. asked.

"Because I'm scared she'll say no, and I want her to say yes." Diddy said.

"Dixie's not going to say no when you ask her to marry you. Has anything happened during your relationship that caused the two of you to hate each other?" DK asked.

"Well, no..." Diddy said.

"Have you ever had any major arguments that almost caused the two of you to break up?" DK asked.

"No..." said Diddy, unable to think of any. He and Dixie only had friendly arguments, which were always easily resolved, thanks to their undying love for each other.

"Then you have nothing to worry about. She'll say yes when you ask her the big question." Candy assured him, transferring two slices of French toast to each plate.

"What do you think, cuz?" Diddy asked his cousin as Candy sliced bananas and topped the French toast with the banana slices.

"Does Dixie know that you love her?" Jr. asked.

"I tell her every day that I love her." Diddy said.

"Does she love you, too?" Jr. asked.

"I know she does. I feel it in my heart every time she kisses me." said Diddy.

"Then stop being afraid, cuz. She'll marry you." Jr. replied.

"Okay, then." Diddy said. He was glad to have support from his loving family.

"Now, eat up. You can't go exploring with an empty stomach." Candy said as she set the plates of French toast in front of everyone before sitting down.

"Okay." said Diddy. But before he could start eating, Candy said, "And don't eat too fast; I don't want you to choke."

So Diddy was doing his best to eat slowly, but it was hard to do. He really wanted to see Dixie.

After breakfast, Diddy ran back to his room, grabbed his backpack, grabbed his lunch sack from the fridge, put it in his backpack, and left the treehouse.

"Good luck, Diddy!" DK, Candy, and Jr. called after him as he ran to Dixie's treehouse.

When Diddy got to Dixie's, he knocked on the door. After about 5 seconds, the door opened, and Tiny was standing there.

"Hey, Dixie! Your boyfriend, the major babe, is here!" Tiny called out, making Diddy blush like a madman.

"Tiny! I'm glad you know that he's my boyfriend, but you seem to forget that I'm the only one who can call him a major babe!" Dixie's voice called in exasperation, making Diddy blush even more. Then she quickly added, "I'll be right out!"

A minute later, Dixie showed up, and Diddy got himself to look normal again by that time. He looked at his girl, noticing that she was still as lovely as ever, and Diddy often wondered how he got so lucky to have such a pretty girl in his life.

"Ready to go exploring, Diddy?" Dixie asked, smiling as Diddy held his hand out for hers.

"Ready when you are, Dixie." Diddy replied as Dixie gladly took his hand.

"I was born ready, so let's get going!" Dixie said.

So Diddy and Dixie set off, and now they could go adventuring.

The duo spent much of the morning in the jungle, climbing trees and swinging on vines like Tarzan and Jane, and they were having a lot of fun. Then again, they always had fun when they were together.

Before long, the young couple decided to do something else, so they went to the banana plantation to gather some bananas for a snack. They were also thinking of taking some bananas back to their families, and so they picked the ripest bananas they could find.

"Do you think we could stop for lunch while we're at it? It's almost noon." Dixie said, noticing the position of the sun.

"Sure. If you want to, we can do that." Diddy said.

"Good. I'm just about starved." said Dixie.

"Didn't you have breakfast?" Diddy asked.

"Yes, but the thought of seeing you made me too excited to eat, so I ate only a little." Dixie replied.

"I see. Anyway, I'm pretty hungry myself, so lunch sounds like a good idea right about now." Diddy said.

The two sat under the welcome shade of a banana tree, and Diddy produced his lunch sack. It contained two banana sandwiches and two juice boxes containing banana juice. He handed one sandwich and juice box to Dixie.

"I was thinking of having a couple of the bananas in this tree for lunch, but it seems you came prepared. What a wonderful trait in a guy." Dixie said as she accepted the food from her beau.

Although Diddy and Dixie were ravenous, Diddy found his appetite disappearing. You see, when he reached into his backpack to get the food, he felt the box, and it reminded him of what he was planning to do. He wasn't sure if he'd be able to do it.

"I said I would do this, and I'm going to do it. I just hope she accepts." Diddy said to himself.

"Did you say something, Diddy?" Dixie asked, looking up from her sandwich.

"Uh... I was reminding myself of something I have to do when I get home tonight. That's all." Diddy said.

"Okay." said Dixie, and she went back to enjoying her lunch.

Diddy put his worries aside and quickly ate his lunch. The last thing he needed was to worry, otherwise he'd miss out on a lot of fun.

After lunch, the young couple just walked around the island, clearly enjoying each other's presence.

"I'm really glad we're able to spend the day together, Diddy." Dixie told him at one point.

"So am I, Dixie. Any day I can spend with you is a perfect day in my book." Diddy told her.

"You're really sweet, do you know that?" Dixie asked.

"No, you're the sweet one." Diddy told her.

"You're sweeter." Dixie told him.

"No, that's still you." Diddy said.

"Okay, if I'm the sweet one, then you're the awesome one." Dixie replied.

"Now you're exaggerating. I'm not awesome." Diddy said.

"You are awesome." Dixie told him.

"What makes you so sure?" Diddy asked.

"One: I'm your girlfriend. Two: You're my boyfriend. And finally: I've always believed that you're awesome." Dixie smirked, knowing she'd won this round.

"Okay, you win. I really can't argue with that logic." Diddy said, pulling Dixie close for a kiss.

"Another added bonus: you're the best kisser on Kongo Bongo Island." Dixie smiled when they broke apart.

"Really?" Diddy asked.

"Yeah." Dixie replied.

"Have you ever kissed with or been kissed by anyone else on the island?" Diddy asked.

"Outside the family, you mean? If so, nope. You're the only one." Dixie said.

Both apes were blushing as they continued to walk around, feeling like the luckiest Kongs alive.

Several hours later, the couple found themselves at the beach, and the sun was starting to set.

"Well... here we are... The beach..." Diddy said as he looked around.

"This was where we first met each other." Dixie said.

"Yeah... I remember that..." Diddy said. As he looked at the sea, watching the sunlight sparkle on the water, his mind brought him back to the moment he walked over to Dixie and spoke to her for the very first time. He had been so nervous then, but the nervousness he felt then was nothing compared to what he was feeling now.

"Are you okay, Diddy?" Dixie asked as they walked over to the spot where they had their first conversation years back.

(A/N: Diddy and Dixie meeting each other at the beach and having their first conversation at sunset is another detail from A Heart With No Hope.)

"I... I think so..." Diddy said.

As they arrived at that spot, they just stood there in silence for a bit, watching the sunset. It was an amazing sight, as usual.

"I still can't believe that it's our anniversary, and that we're finishing it up in the same spot where we first spoke to one another, at the same time." Dixie said, admiring the sight.

Diddy looked at Dixie, noticing how pretty she looked in the light from the setting sun, and he knew that it was now or never.

"I have to do it now, or else I'll never do it." Diddy thought.

"Dixie..." Diddy started.

"Yes, Diddy?" Dixie asked, turning to face him.

"Well..." Diddy didn't know what to say, but he knew he had to say something, and quick. So he said, "Did I ever tell you that I fell in love with you the moment I saw you all those years ago?"

"Did you really?" Dixie asked, blushing.

Diddy got so nervous that all he could do was nod his head in response.

"Aww, Diddy. I knew you were a sweetie." Dixie said.

"I thought I was the awesome one." Diddy said.

"Yeah, but you were insisting that I was the sweet one, so you became the awesome one. But you really are a sweetie. I thought you should know that." Dixie said.

"Okay, then. Anyway, we seem to be getting off-topic. I remember falling for you even harder during the talk we had around this time that same day." Diddy said.

"You did?" Dixie asked.

"Yeah. And ever since then, I don't think I've ever felt happier. Since you came around, my life has been brighter and happier. And if anything, I'd like it to stay that way for always..." Diddy said as he got down on one knee.

"Diddy, are you saying...?" Dixie asked, obviously surprised.

Diddy reached into his backpack and pulled out the black velvet box. Then he opened it, and Dixie gasped in complete surprise when she saw the beautiful ring inside. The ring was 14-karat gold, and the jewel in it was pink, her favorite color.

"Oh my goodness..." Dixie said to herself, hand over her mouth.

"Dixie Kong, would you continue to make me the happiest I've ever been, by becoming my wife?" Diddy asked, looking into the emerald eyes of his sweetheart.

Dixie was speechless. Never had she expected something like this from the monkey she loved with all her heart! She managed to nod her head and replied in a loud whisper, "I will!"

"I knew it was too soon to ask you..." Diddy said, bowing his head in sadness as he closed the box. In his worry, he thought she'd said no.

"What are you saying?" Dixie asked.

"What did you say?" Diddy asked.

"I want to marry you. That's what I said." Dixie told him.

"You said yes?" Diddy asked; he could feel his heart pounding now.

"I couldn't say no. I could never say no. Not to you. Now do you want to marry me?" Dixie asked.

"You'd better believe I do! I've been wanting to marry you for a very long time!" Diddy said as he opened the box again, took the ring out, and placed it on Dixie's finger.

"It's beautiful!" Dixie said, admiring the ring.

"When I saw that ring, I just knew that it was made for you!" Diddy said as he kissed her cheek.

"Say, what shape is the stone? It looks like a teardrop, but it's straight on one side." Dixie said, noticing the shape of the jewel.

"Oh, it's shaped like half a heart. That's what made it really perfect, because it symbolizes that you're my better half." Diddy told her.

"Then I love this ring, but not as much as I love you." Dixie told him.

"So, when do do you want to get married? Would a summer wedding be good?" Diddy asked.

"Summer is usually when people tie the knot, and it'll give us plenty of time to plan the wedding, so yeah. How about we tie the knot in June?" Dixie said.

"You want to be a June bride?" Diddy asked.

"They're not very common anymore. I recall a year where everyone and their sister wanted to get married in August." Dixie replied.

"Good point. Don't worry, Dixie, if you want to be a June bride, I can handle that because I love you so much." Diddy said, slipping his arms around Dixie.

And then they kissed. They were kissing until the sky turned dark and the stars and moon appeared in the sky.

"Perhaps we should be heading home now." Dixie said when she saw the moonlight sparkling on the water.

"Yeah, we should, but that's not going to be easy. I don't want to leave your side right now." Diddy said.

"I know, Diddy. I feel the same way. However, I also know that DK's probably worried about you right now. And my family is probably wondering what's keeping me." said Dixie.

"(sigh) I guess you're right, sweetie. We should get home and tell our families that we're engaged now." said Diddy.

"They're not going to believe this." Dixie said as they made their way into the jungle.

"DK probably won't be too surprised. He believed that you were going to accept." Diddy said.

"He knows how much we love each other, Diddy. It's been plain to see for a long time." Dixie replied.

So Diddy walked Dixie home first, and after a lingering good-bye kiss, he began making his way home. When Diddy was out of sight, Dixie let out a loving sigh, then entered the treehouse.

In Dixie's treehouse, Tiny was sitting in the living room, watching T.V. When she heard the door open, she was surprised to see Dixie come in.

"Dixie!" Tiny cried.

"Tiny! Where are Chunky and Kiddy?" Dixie asked.

"Chunky is busy getting Kiddy settled for the night, but it's you I'm concerned about. You should have been back here before the moon came up! What took you so long?" Tiny asked.

"You tell me." Dixie replied, smiling sweetly as she held up her left hand to flaunt her engagement ring at her sister.

At first, Tiny didn't notice, but she swore she saw a faint glitter when Dixie moved her hand a little.

"What was that?" Tiny asked, moving closer for a better look. As soon as she saw what caused the glitter, she gasped loudly.

"Dixie! That's a ring! You mean you're...?!" Tiny started, shocked.

"Tiny, how would you like to be my maid of honor?" Dixie asked, grinning like a stupid kid.

Upon hearing those words, Tiny's eyes were as big as dinner plates. Then she let out the loudest squee Dixie had ever heard, and then she was practically crushing her in a hug.

"Oh my gosh! I can't believe you got engaged! This is so awesome!" Tiny said.

"I can't breathe!" Dixie cried.

"Oh, I'm sorry, sis!" Tiny said, letting go of Dixie so she could breathe. While Dixie was gasping for air, Tiny asked, "Can I have a better look at the ring?"

"Okay..." Dixie said. So Dixie and Tiny walked over to the lamp, allowing Tiny to get a better look at the ring in the light.

"It's beautiful!" Tiny exclaimed.

"And look at the jewel! It's shaped like half a heart." Dixie said.

"Why half?" Tiny asked, confused.

"According to Diddy, I'm his better half!" Dixie said.

"Ooh, how romantic! You're so lucky, Dixie! You won the heart of the sweetest and most attractive monkey on Kongo Bongo Island!" Tiny said.

"What's going on out here?!" Chunky asked as he came into the room with Kiddy right behind him. Apparently, Kiddy had been awoken by Tiny's excitement.

"Ask Dixie! That's what I did." Tiny said, grinning.

"And that's what I plan to do. What kept you from coming home before the moon rose, young lady?" Chunky asked, talking to Dixie in a rather stern voice.

"Well... I think I'll let you figure it out for yourself." Dixie said, holding up her left hand to flaunt the ring again. The ring caught the light, allowing Chunky and Kiddy to see just what had happened. Boy did their eyes get big!

"Where did you get that?" Kiddy asked in surprise.

"Guess." Dixie smiled.

"Diddy proposed, didn't he?" Chunky asked.

Dixie nodded, too happy to speak.

"Well, I was upset that you're home later than usual, but now I'm so happy for you! Diddy's a good-hearted monkey, and I know that you and him will be very happy together." Chunky said as he gave Dixie a hug, making sure he didn't hug her as tightly as Tiny had.

Meanwhile, at DK's treehouse...

When Diddy got home, DK and Jr. were busy playing a video game, and Candy was watching them. But when Diddy came in, Candy turned her attention to Diddy.

"Diddy! You're home!" Candy said.

DK quickly paused the game, then got up and ran to greet Diddy. Candy and Jr. immediately followed suit.

"Hey, little buddy! I was wondering if and when you'd be back! How did it go?" DK asked.

"It went rather well. Dixie and I had a lot of fun exploring Kongo Bongo Island today." Diddy said.

"Did she say yes?" Jr. asked.

"Well..." Diddy started, and everyone immediately felt bad.

"Didn't you ask her?" DK asked, a little worried.

"I did..." Diddy said, looking a little nervous.

"We're very sorry, Diddy..." Candy said, putting a hand on Diddy's shoulder.

"What are you sorry for?" Diddy asked.

"You were going to say that she said no... weren't you?" DK asked.

"Actually, I was going to say that Dixie and I will be married the following summer, and you're all invited to the wedding!" Diddy replied.

Everyone suddenly felt happy again.

"She did say yes!" Jr. realized.

"You bet she did!" Diddy replied.

"I knew she would! I'm really happy for you, Diddy." DK smiled, hugging his nephew.

"Congratulations!" said Candy, giving Diddy a happy smile.

"Then what happened?!" asked an excited 3-year-old Daisy Kong as she sat up in her bed. (A/N: Daisy Kong is my OC, and she's Diddy and Dixie's daughter. She was born in my fanfic "The Big Surprise".)

"What do you think happened? Your mother and I were married by the big baboon one night in June, and after we returned from our Aba Daba Honeymoon, we lived happily ever after." Diddy replied, turning his gaze towards Dixie, who was sitting right next to him.

"And your father and I are still very much in love. We always have been." Dixie replied, meeting her husband's gaze.

"What was your wedding like?! And your honeymoon! Tell me!" Daisy asked, even more excited.

"Daisy, sweetie, I think we should probably save those stories for another time, like maybe tomorrow night, or the night after that..." Dixie said.

"Aww, how come?" Daisy asked, her excitement replaced with slight disappointment.

"Because we promised you one story, Daisy. That was it. Now it's time for you to get some sleep." Diddy said.

As much as Daisy wanted to hear those stories, she knew that there was no use arguing. Her parents were right. She herself had agreed to hearing just one story that night.

"(sigh) Okay... Good night, Mommy. Good night, Daddy." Daisy said as she laid back down and snuggled under the covers of her bed.

"Good night, sweetheart." Dixie said, giving her daughter a kiss.

"Good night, Daisy." Diddy said, also giving his child a kiss.

Then the couple made their way out of the room, and they turned out the light, but Daisy had a small, heart-shaped nightlight near the bed that kept her from being afraid of the dark.

Once they were in their own room and under the covers of their bed, Dixie asked Diddy, "What compelled you to tell her that particular story tonight, Diddy?"

"The anniversary of the day we met is tomorrow." Diddy replied.

"It is?!" Dixie asked.

"Look at the calendar." Diddy said, pointing at the calendar on the wall.

Dixie got out of bed and walked over to look at the calendar, and sure enough, tomorrow's date was circled, and the words written there proved that it was what Diddy said it was.

"Would you look at that? It is tomorrow." Dixie said.

"Uh-huh." Diddy said.

"I think that story we told Daisy was among one of my favorites. It was an anniversary I'll never forget." Dixie said as she got back into the bed to cuddle with her husband.

"I know. I'll never forget that day, either. But I had been so nervous to ask you the big question." Diddy said.

"What made you think I wouldn't marry you? I was going to say yes, no matter what." Dixie said.

"I don't know. What if you thought it was too soon to get married?" Diddy asked.

"Not when we've known each other as long as we had, with no problems whatsoever." Dixie told him.

"I'll never stop loving you." Diddy told Dixie as he pulled her to him, wondering how he got so lucky.

"And I'll love you for the rest of my life." Dixie said, before giving Diddy a loving kiss on the lips.

The End

Okay, I don't think I've ever written a "Donkey Kong" one-shot this long before! But I have! What a story this has been! I hope you enjoyed it!
