Walking through the hospital, I checked the room number before going inside, knocking quietly as I did so. "Danny." I spoke warmly and full of sympathetic concern, entering as he turned his head minutely from the bed he was lying on. A grin immediately lit up his handsome face.
"Cordy. What are you doing here?"
"Well when I get a call this time of night telling me that the handsomest, sexiest and most delicious guy in the entire school had been taken to hospital because of paralysis…" I began to explain as I closed the door behind me and walked inside, putting my care package and get well soon card on the table next to him in order to sit down, I took his hand as I smiled teasingly. "…well I just had to come over and take advantage of the fact that he can't refuse my advances, didn't I?" He laughed, making me feel relieved that he seemed okay. "But seriously though, how do you feel?"
"Weird, I guess? I mean I can't move anything, but the same thing happened to my ex so I'm feeling much better than the others probably do around about now." Understanding entirely, I brushed my fingers against his hair then held his hand for a little while, sitting with him. "Thanks for coming, Cordy. I appreciate a friendly face."
"Anything Danny. You know you're one of my favourite people." He laughed lightly then looked towards the care package I'd brought him so I picked it up and set it on my lap. "I bought you a few goodies to make you feel better, just a couple of pick-me-ups. Of course, chocolate and candy is a basic, I got your favourites. A hospital teddy bear with a cute little bandage around his head, some soda, let's see…oh right, Armani aftershave because you and I both know that it is the best smell in the world. There's some other little knickknacks in here, you know, gum, magazines, homemade cookies…though maybe you should leave those, I can't guarantee they won't kill you…oh and some flowers, of course, because no hospital visit should ever be without a bunch of flowers. Want me to open the card for you? It'll make you laugh."
Smiling all the while, Danny watched as I opened the card and he indeed laughed at my rather dark sense of humour as I showed it to him, looking much better already than before. His finger twitched as he laughed so I immediately pointed it out. "Hey! Your finger moved! That means you must be recovering right? Do they know what happened exactly?"
"Not really, it was confusing at the club because of the low light and all the people there, but all I remember is feeling some kind of pain at the back of my neck before I couldn't move. I think some people were saying they saw a monster, but I reckon someone was spiking the drinks." My mind immediately returned to the night at the pool when Derek had lost the ability to move his body due to the reptile thing, kanima? I think that's what they called it.
"Well, so long as my gorgeous Danny is okay, then there's nothing more I can ask for." Holding his hand for a little while I sat and talked with him, keeping him company so that he didn't have to feel alone. When Scott and Stiles had called me to tell me everything that had happened with Lydia and Derek trying to kill her, I'd almost hit the roof. First I'd yelled at them for not calling me to help protect her, but then they'd reminded me that I'd asked them not to involve me in what was going on. A good point, but irrelevant. If some psycho is trying to kill my best friend then that obviously negates all previous conversations.
Anyway, after I'd yelled at them some more, they'd told me that they'd followed the kanima, who turned out to be Jackson of all people, into a gay nightclub, they'd asked me to go and check on Danny whilst they dealt with Jackson. I was totally confused as to how Jackson could be that ugly reptile creature, but they'd cut the call before I could ask them. Wait until I get my hands on those two, they are going to wish they had never been born once I'm done with them. "Hey, you okay?" Danny asked me, noticing how I was lost in thought and frowning slightly.
"I'm fine, just worrying about some stuff."
"Midterms?" Oh right, those too.
"Yeah. It's not looking great for me." Danny smiled at me and I felt him trying to strain his body in order to give my hand a squeeze, struggling for a few moments before his hand twitched again. I beamed at the achievement.
"You're smarter than you give yourself credit for. I know how hard you study, your grades aren't for a lack of trying." Danny said to me astutely, making me arch my eyebrow quizzically at him. "I know it's none of my business, but if there's something you're struggling with, then you really should ask for help. It won't make you seem weak or anything, everybody needs a little help sometimes. It's just the way life goes."
"My, my Danny." Humming softly as I leaned closer to him, I gently ran the back of my hand over his cheek affectionately. "Handsome and insightful. There's just no end to your appeal, is there?" Placing a chaste kiss on his cheek I returned to sitting back in my seat with my hand resting over his, thumb running back and forth over his skin as he sighed deeply. Thinking about it, I don't think I can really recall how we started our tradition of flirting with one another. I was definitely the instigator, and it happened more or less the moment I met Danny because I developed a fast falling crush on him.
The flirting was a means to try and tempt his interest but he was never anything but polite and sweet, making me want him more. It was only when I figured out that he was gay that I gave up that venture, but the playful flirtations never ceased and Danny had always gone along with it. I guess that was just our vibe, and I enjoyed it immensely. With Danny it was harmless and innocent, and I liked that about us. Glancing back at him, I saw that he'd finally fallen asleep so I carefully removed my hand then pulled up the blanket to cover his arms and chest, not wanting him to catch cold. Delicately lifting his head, I lowered the pillow so that his neck wasn't at an angle then pressed the button to lower the frame into a flat position, flinching every time it made a noise until finally, I felt that I couldn't do anything more to add to Danny's comfort.
Knowing I wouldn't be able to stay the night, I left him a note by his card telling him to take it easy and that I would see him at school once he was better before leaving, carefully closing the door behind me and with a soft click, I left.
