Time Period: A Flashback Thanksgiving 2008

Theme-A Crash Course in Religion and PTSD

(Sarah distributes meals to her family. It catches her off guard to see Derek sitting at the head of the table. Derek is in a very serious and solemn mood. Maybe he is waiting for someone to pray over the food.)

Sarah: Derek, why are you sitting at the head of the table?

Derek: I am the alpha male

John (laughing): The alpha male?

Derek: The king of the castle

Sarah: I am in charge here

John: Derek, you are unusually quiet

Derek: Today has been one of those long and crazy days for me

John: How so?

Derek (changing the subject) I am hungry. Someone needs to pray over the food.

Sarah: I never knew we were supposed to pray over the food. Is prayer really necessary?

Derek: Yes. Prayer is tradition

Derek: Yes. Praying over the food has been a family tradition of mine.

Sarah: We can pray over the food this time.

Derek: Why can't we pray over the food everyday?

Sarah: I am not a deeply religious person. What I have cooked is not poisonous or unhealthy. Most of my meals are made with love. I don't have a recipe.

John: Mom, I remember a time when you almost burnt our dinner

Sarah (offended): JOHN!

John: I am sorry, mom

Sarah: No. You are not sorry.

Derek: I request for us to start praying and eating right now.

Cameron (to Derek): I want to pray. How do I pray?

(Irritable and annoyed, Derek ignores Cameron and starts praying over the food.)

Theme- Thanksgiving 2020

Scene: The Dining Room- Dinner Time

Derek: Today is Thanksgiving. We should pray over the food.

Sarah: I didn't poison the food. I made the food with love.

Derek: We should pray over the food. Who knows what kind of ingredients that you put in the food?

Sarah: Now that Kyle is here, your reign as the alpha male has ended. Kyle is in charge now.

Derek (to Kyle): I am your older brother. Are you really going to allow your wife to disrespect me?

Kyle: It is getting annoying to hear you two argue like children. Please leave me out of it.

Derek: Whose side are you on?

Kyle: I am on nobody's side.

John (trying to ease the tension): Today is Thanksgiving. What are you thankful for, Cam?

Cameron: I am thankful for you, John. I love you.

John (blushing): OH Cam...

Derek (shocked): What the hell?

John (to Kitty and Chance): What are you two grateful for?

Kitty: I thankful for my family

Chance: Me too

John: Thats good, kiddos

Derek: John, you are my favorite person at the moment. I love you like a son.

John (choked up): Derek, you are too kind and cool for words

Sarah (kissing and hugging Kyle): I love you

Kyle: I love you too
