Is anyone interested in this? I'm calling this Oscar/Roman ship Forest Fire.
Ironwood approached Oscar, intimidating the boy to slowly walk backwards in Atlas's vault. The kid hovered as his feet found the edge and the large man paused. He pulled out his gun, stiffly, "James is what my friends call me...To you it's General."
Oscar tensed as Due Process fired. The boy heard a yelp from a flurry of rose petals who careened into him. They fell off the vault's border. Oscar gripped Ruby's shoulders and wished his best friend wasn't going to die with him.
She coughed, "Meant to save you."
Oscar smirked, "Awful job." He reached for her belt, "Crescent Rose!"
She shook her head, "Doesn't have enough bullets, and we're too heavy together."
Oscar twisted himself to look down, "I'm surprised we're still talking."
Ruby squinted at the ground they were approaching, "I think we have a few minutes." She let loose a choked giggled. Then she gasped, "Long Memory, it has a few tricks up its sleeves!" She grabbed him by the waist and he pushed the lever of his cane.
He raised a brow and for the first time in over a year, he heard Ozpin.
Ozpin, I could have saved just you Oscar. If you are willing to take a risk to possibly save Miss Rose as well-
Oscar, "I am!" he barely heard Ruby's soft laugh over the whistling air.
Ozpin, I prefer taking this chance as well. This is where we part ways. Where you go I cannot follow.
Ozpin's wisdom shoved itself into the boy's mind and he knew exactly what to do, "Ruby! Grab Long Memory and push your Aura into me!"
He burned through both their Auras and Oscar doubted, his arm about her waist and locked onto her silver eyes. Until she focused onto the horizon, he followed her gaze. The sun, a brilliant orange faded into pink, set behind hazy mountains. At least they die with a good view and excellent company.
Then nothing
Direction ceased its meaning and the surroundings were below frigid. Ruby held tight and she tried to speak but no sounds came out. Eyes bugged and they realized there was no air. A less than ideal way to die.
Then
It was immediately less cold, underneath a pile of snow. They dug themselves free and he got a clear sight of Ruby, and shouted, "You're bleeding!" blood slowly pumped out of her side.
She leaned heavily on him, "Happens when you get shot."
He remembered her Aura couldn't be used defensively when she was in her semblance. He knelt, allowing her to climb onto his back.
She grunted as she tried to apply pressure to her side, "It's the middle of winter, we are tapped out of Aura. You know we're dead?"
"When did you become a smart aleck?" He started walking towards the smoke.
"You met my Uncle?"
"Right family resemblance. Keep pressure on your wound."
"You were talking to Ozpin when we were falling?"
"He's gone...he said he could not follow us here." Oscar could make out the start of houses
"Are you okay?" She pressed her cheek to his ear trying to offer what comfort she could.
He didn't want to think about the empty ache in the corner of his mind, "Asks the woman slowly bleeding out." He picked up the pace when he felt her go slack. The homes were few and far between, but he could hear music and chatter drift over the cold air. He needed to get them warm and to see to Ruby's wounds. His legs shook, but he moved to what he hoped would be towards people.
A tavern, Oscar let loose a sob of relief as he shouldered the door open. He made eye contact with the barkeep. There was a moment pause and the old man gave a bewildered look and gestured to a table.
A hooded patron cleared off a table in a violent sweep of the arms. He shouted, "Callows!"
Laying out Ruby and Oscar thought his heart stopped as a man with a scorpion tail approached him. Much much younger than Tyrian, still an obvious relation.
The Faunus looked at the boy white-knuckling a cane. He raised three fingers to the barkeep. He gave a short yet nervous laugh, "Young man I am an Atlas Vet and I was also a medic. You're not going to find better help here."
The hooded patron handed Callows three shots of vodka. Two went on the Faunus's hands, and then he held a third over Ruby.
Oscar gritted his teeth and opened her corset, "She was shot with a handgun, there was no exit wound."
Callows turned to the man with the hood, "Kid, run home and get my bag. You get to learn how to remove a bullet today."
He lowered his hood and smiled at Oscar revealing a silver and a green eye along with messy orange hair, "I'm Roman." He ran off before the boy could respond.
