Theme: December Bliss and Blues

Time Period: A Flashback post the abortion

Date: 12-2-1981

Situation: Kyle attends a Christmas party hosted by Sarah's family

Scene: The Backyard Patio

Kyle (walking onto the patio): Hello, Sarah. I have been looking for you. You should rejoin the Christmas party. They miss you inside the house.

Sarah (depressed, she sits in a chair): I don't deserve to be alive. I killed an innocent life. I haven't quite healed physically or emotionally from the abortion even though it took place a few months ago.

Kyle (sitting in a chair): You are not a murderer

Sarah: You're saying that because you love me

Kyle: You are not a murderer. I mean it from my heart. It was your body and choice.

Sarah (observing the stars): I wonder if our baby's soul is in heaven.

Kyle (squeezing Sarah's hand): Our baby is an angel. God is taking care of him or her for us.

Sarah (choked up): I think our baby was a boy

Kyle (fighting back tears): Our baby was a boy

Sarah (crying): Your legacy is dead and it is all my fault. I am so sorry. I should've kept the baby.

Kyle (touching Sarah's cheek): You are innocent. Please don't hate yourself for the abortion. We are young and in high school. If it is God's will, we will get married and have more babies in the future.

Sarah (kissing Kyle): I love you

Kyle (hugging and kissing Sarah): I love you too

Sarah (notices a small box in Kyle's coat pocket): What do you have in that tiny box?

Kyle (opens the box and puts a necklace around Sarah's neck): Merry Christmas. I brought you a necklace for Christmas.

Sarah (smiling): Thanks

Kyle: You are welcome

(Then the flashback ends)

Time Period: A Flashback Post the blind date (an one night stand) and the miscarriage

Date: 12-2-1990

Place: Sarah's hospital recovery room

A nurse (trying to wake up Sarah): Wake up, sweetheart

Sarah (waking up in the bed): Good morning

A nurse: You had a rough night. You are well enough to go home. You and your son have been good patients.

Sarah (worried): What happened to my son?

Nurse: Your son is in good perfect health. He slept on the couch and the hospital staff looked after him while you were recovering.

Sarah (getting out of bed): Alright. I thank you for your help. I am so ready to go home.

Six year old John (playing with a game boy on the couch): Cool

Sarah (reaching for John): It is time to go home, buddy

A nurse (helping Sarah into a wheelchair): Sarah, you need to take it easy. You had a miscarriage. The baby was a girl and she was at seven weeks gestation.

Sarah (sadly rubbing her flat stomach): OH my precious little princess

(The nurse escorts Sarah and John to their car (a jeep). She gives two teddy bears to Sarah and John as goodbye- early Christmas gifts. They tell her thank you. While driving John and herself home, Sarah forgets about this painful chapter in her life. John doesn't have a clue about his mom's pain and sorrow. John only knows that Sarah is a strong person and she loves him. The flashback ends.)

Time Period: The Present Reality

Date: 12-2-2020 (thirty years later)

Place: The Connor Reese Residence- The Kitchen

Action: Sarah is busy making double chocolate muffins and brownies for her family

Kyle (observing Sarah): You appear to be a little off

Sarah (lying): I am fine

Kyle: If you are fine then why are you emotional?

Sarah (fighting back tears): This month, December is always hard for me.

Kyle: I assume December is hard for you because of the abortion and miscarriage. You had an abortion thirty nine years ago. Your miscarriage took place thirty years ago.

Sarah: You are correct

Kyle (embracing Sarah): Everything will be okay. I love you. We should appreciate this second chance that we have been given.

(Sarah is about to completely fall apart in Kyle's arms when John and Kitty enter the kitchen)

Kyle (leaving Sarah): I will talk to you later, my love

Sarah (to Kitty): Did you enjoy your visit with Santa Claus at the mall yesterday?

Kitty: Usually, I visit Santa Claus on my birthday. I don't understand why you and dad took me to the mall before December 20th.

Sarah: We took you to the mall now because the corona virus could get worse on December 20th. Plus, we may have other plans.

Kitty (looking at the brownies and chocolate muffins): Yummy..

John: Kit, you are going to turn into a brownie or muffin someday

Sarah (livid, she yells at John): JOHN

John (studying Sarah): Something is wrong with you

(Things begin to get serious when Sarah requests for kitty to leave the room. Sarah discusses her miscarriage with John for the very first time. John is shocked and yet shows Sarah compassion).
