New chapter. Hope you like it :)
Sage's first week on the island flew by in an instant. In that week he had managed to obtain 30,000 bells and pay off a small amount of his enormous loan. He'd also caught butterflies, beetles and a wide range of different bug species. In fact, he'd gone through 3 nets within the time range of that weeks. He'd also dug up fossils which he gave to a jolly old owl named Blathers who added them to his museum collection. Apparently, once Sage had collected the right amount of fossils, bugs and sea creatures, Blathers could open a museum. Sage was excited. He thought it was a splendid idea.
But the one thing that Sage was most thrilled about was the residents who had moved in. Within the short amount of time he had. he met them all (which was only two at the time). Both of them were indeed, perfect.
Kody, was a very excessive jock-like Kodiak Bear. In general, he was always talkative and whenever Sage walked past him, he wouldn't be surprised if he was doing daily fitness routines. Leonardo (or Lee, as Sage called him) was a very large, body-building Lion. He'd go on and on about how he used to lift weights before he retired and how he'd won hundreds upon hundreds of body-building trophies. Overall, Sage admired his determination. This was one of the first times Sage had been pleased with Tom Nook for bringing these villagers to Cascade Cove.
But in fact, as the days went by and Sage grew stronger and learned many more things about running the island, he started to notice Tom Nook. He was making more calls then usual and whenever Sage went in to make something off the bench (Timmy and Tommy had bought their own plot of land and built Nook's Cranny to sell their infinite supply of wonders) he'd always watch Tom call for hours and/or write letters to people. Sage wondered what he needed to spend so much time on.
Isabelle moved in the next day. She set up her office in Resident Services and always gave Sage a reassuring smile. He adored that smile and always made sure to greet Isabelle when he needed to make something at the workhouse. He had then made a DIY Workbench which he set up outside his house (he had paid off his 5,000 nook mile loan and was now living literately in the comfort of his very own house). That way he needn't have to go to Resident Services if he wanted to craft something. Later that day, Sage wondered if Tom Nook had been writing all those letters and calling on his NookPhone to Isabelle. He would later realize that he was partially correct.
On Sunday, Sage woke up excited for the day. But when he opened up the window and pushed away the curtains, his eye noticed Tom Nook speaking to a big brown dog. Sage tilted his head and leaned closer out the window to listen to their conversation.
"The name's Butch, RRRROOOOOWF!" Tom laughed and handed Butch something. Sage leaned even farther but realized too late that he'd leant too far out the window. He tumbled out of the house and into the soft grass below. Tom Nook smirked and Butch burst out laughing. It was hard for Sage to take too and he even chuckled a bit. He got up, shook off the dirt and trotted over to the two.
"Hello, Sage! This is Butch. He's thinking of moving in!" Sage turned to Butch and they shook hands gratefully. "Good to meet ya." said Sage cheerfully. Butch just glared at Sage. Then Sage reminded himself of what Tom Nook had said when they were discussing residency.
Flashback~
"Villagers have different personalities. Some are "cheery". They're easier to become friends with. Some are "jock" (like Kody and Leonardo). And the ones who are "cranky" are more difficult to befriend. But, with some convincing and that cheery spirit of yours, I think you'll be able to befriend cranky villagers in the nick of time, Sage!"
Sage thanked Tom Nook for that compliment and had made it his mission to become friends with as many "cranky" villagers he could.
He guessed that Butch had a cranky personality and decided to keep himself low and make sure he didn't say anything to upset, antagonize or annoy Butch. They chatted for a couple of minutes before Butch spoke up. Sage hoped Butch would move in. They'd had quite the intriguing chat and Sage enjoyed listening to Butch's story from where he came from. Sage had made a good impression on Butch (he begged) and Butch had even smiled Sage. Tom Nook kept giving Sage good looks which Sage read like a book You're-doing-great-keep-going-and-he'll-move-in looks where the regular smiles that Tom Nook gave whenever Sage said something Butch was interested in.
And when Butch took Tom aside and made an offer, Sage was ecstatic. Butch was the perfect villager that Sage wanted on his island. In fact, Butch reminded Sage so much of himself that he almost called him Sage! It seemed like Butch enjoyed talking to Sage too because Sage overheard their chat from the orange tree behind the plot of land that Butch was to buy.
Sage couldn't wait.
He hadn't had much friends back in Marvel City and so he was excited to meet Kody and Leonardo.
But never
Never in a million years would Sage expect to meet someone as interesting as Butch. He could just imagine what they'd do together in the future. Climb the cascades. Catch rare beetles. Dig up hidden treasures on the shore of Cascade Cove. So many opportunities that Sage could picture in his ever expanding mind.
And this was the best day for Sage in a long time.
It was very rare you'd get a grumpy newcomer to be your most favorited newcomer.
