Authors Note
Hello. Welcome back, everyone. This is chapter 7. We saw in the last chapter that Ash, Red, and Gary have finally become rivals on the 3rd day of camp. In this chapter, we'll get to see day 5 and as well as the last day of the camp. This'll include the usual Ash helps Serena, except Red will be there with him.
For those that reviewed the previous chapters, I've sent you a PM answering any questions you had and such. For those that use guest accounts while reviewing, I'll answer your questions and reply to your reviews in the Authors Note at the beginning of each chapter. There have been no new guest reviews since the last chapter.
With that said, the poll for Red's starter Pokemon is now closed. The results are as follows.
Charmander: 7
Bulbasaur: 7
Axew: 6
Poliwag: 4
Eevee: 2
Squirtle: 1
So There. I gave another week, but there is still a tie. At the beginning of the week, it was 6 for Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Axew. The latest votes dropped it to a two way tie instead of 3 way, so now I'm just going to go with the one I prefer from the two winners, which is Charmander. My reason for doing so is that I believe Bulbasaur would be better suited as the starter Pokemon for Leaf and that Red should get Charmander.
Now! I know some of you have been waiting for this for a long time, so Ash's poll is finally reopening. I checked the exact time given and realized it was 8 days given for Ash's poll and 3 whole weeks for Red's poll, so I'm going to give 2 more weeks for Ash's poll. I'll also throw in the pairings poll after those two weeks. I'll alternate every week between the poll for Ash and Red.
Ok, that's it. On to the final part of the Pokemon Summer Camp.
-In another dimension far far away-
In his prison, Shadow was resting, content with the fact that the only ones with the power to stop him would soon be dead. Suddenly, he felt his minion's presence enter his mind once again. "WHAT IS IT, MINION," Shadow asked. "DID YOU SUCCEED IN GETTING RID OF THE CHOSEN ONES."
"No, master," the minion said telepathically. His fear could be felt even through the mental connection. "Please forgive me."
"WHAT, YOU FAILED," Shadow yelled, furiously. "HOW DARE YOU."
"I was about to kill them, master," he said. "But then, then I…"
"THEN WHAT!" Shadow screamed at him.
"An aura guardian showed up and saved him." The man said, trembling with fright.
"AN AURA GUARDIAN MANAGED TO DEFEAT YOU," Shadow questioned.
"Yes Master, he defeated all my Pokemon with just his Aura powers."
"YOU'RE WORTHLESS," Shadow said. "YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE INFORMED ME OF THIS. YOU KNOW VERY WELL THAT SHADOW DOES NOT FORGIVE."
"No. Please Master," the minion screamed, as Shadow sent a powerful burst of dark energy through the mind link. "NOOOOOOOO" the minion screamed one last time, as the power surged into him. He slowly started to disintegrate, until all that was left of the man was a small pile of ashes.
"I SHOULD HAVE SENT SOMEONE STRONGER FROM THE START," Shadow said to himself angrily.
-Pallet Town-
"That was such a fun class, right guys," Ash asked.
"Of course!" Red replied. The 4th day of the summer camp was over, and two brothers were walking back home along with their friends.
"Yea! Pokemon evolution is really awesome," Gary added. In today's lesson, the students had learned about Pokemon Evolution. Professor Oak had taught them about the various changes that Pokemon go through while evolving. He showed how evolution can even add another type to the Pokemon, and give them new body parts as well.
"It's scary," Serena said, shuddering as she recalled how the small harmless Kakuna had evolved into a large Beedrill. Professor Oak had used the evolution of Weedle as an example to show that upon evolution Pokemon can gain another body part, the way Weedle gets stingers and wings upon evolution.
"What's scary about it?" Leaf asked. "I for one loved the fact that we got to watch Professor Oak's own Charmeleon finally evolve into its final form. Upon Charmeleon's evolution, Professor Oak showed how Charmeleon gains the flying type when it evolves into Charizard to make it a fire and flying-type pokemon.
"Yea! It grew so much bigger when it evolved," Elaine said excitedly. "I loved the way its ember attack turned into a super-powerful Flamethrower.
"Exactly. And the way it defeated Professor Oak's Exeguator in battle with just a couple of hits," Ash continued. "That was amazing."
The friends continued to converse, and before they knew it, they had arrived at the intersection that led to their respective houses. They said a quick goodbye, before taking the road leading to their house.
When they reached home, Delia greeted them with a smile. "Hello boys," She said. "How was the 4th day of camp."
"It was amazing," Both boys yelled. None of them had ever witnessed Pokemon Evolution before, and to then, it was mind-blowing.
"We saw Charmeleon, Kakuna, and some other Pokemon evolve to their final forms," Ash said.
"Yea! They got so much bigger and more powerful," Red added.
"Great! Why don't you two go and wash your hands while I set up the dinner table," Delia said. Both boys were very hungry and sprinted over to the sink to wash their hands. Delia quickly set 3 plates of sandwiches on the table. Both boys quickly ate and then went straight to bed, hoping to be well-rested for the next day of summer camp ahead of them.
-The Next Morning-
The next morning, both boys woke up bright and early in order to get ready for their 5th day at camp. After an exciting day learning about Pokemon evolution, the boys were even more psyched than usual to go to Pokemon Camp. Delia quickly prepared a breakfast of omelets, before the boys left to go to Professor Oak's lab.
When they got to the lab, everyone else was already there. "Hey Ash," Ritchie greeted. "That was some lesson yesterday huh."
"Yup!." Ash agreed. "It was pretty awesome."
"So, did it make you think any more about who your favorite Pokemon is," Ritchie asked.
"Not really," Ash said, shrugging. "But I thought that Charizard was really cool."
"Yeah, same here," Ritchie agreed. "It was incredible how it grew wings and was able to fly."
Ash was about to answer him but right at that moment, Professor Oak walked into the room. "Ok class," He said. "Settle down." He walked over to the front of the class and stood in front of the board. "Today we are going to cover another aspect of Pokemon evolution," He continued. The class got even more excited at that.
"What are we going to learn now, Professor," Serena asked worriedly. "We already learned that Pokemon can gain a type and can also grow new body parts as well. Is there anything left?"
"Yes. As a matter of fact Serena, you all learned about Pokemon that evolve by training together with their trainers," Professor Oak said. "But that is only one of the methods of evolution."
"What," Red broke in. "Are there really more ways to evolve Pokemon," he asked.
"Yes. You see, there are certain Pokemon that can't evolve only by battling and training. There are some Pokemon which require a certain item, usually an evolution stone, to evolve," Professor Oak explained. "There are also those that only evolve when their friendship level with their trainer is very high and those that can only evolve by trade."
"Wow that's amazing," Leaf said. Professor Oak smiled and nodded before flipping open his textbook.
"Ok. Robert, why don't you start us off today," he asked.
"Ok, sure Professor," Robert said. "While many Pokemon evolve by leveling up through battles, there are many Pokemon that require an additional component to evolve. These components come in multiple forms known as evolution items. There are also some Pokemon that evolve once they have been traded with another trainer and those that require a powerful bond with the trainer in order to evolve."
"Thank you, Robert," The professor said. "Why don't you read net Gary."
"Sure Gramps," Gary said. "An example of a Pokemon that evolves using an evolution item is Growlithe. Growlithe evolves into Arcanine once it is given an evolutionary item called a Fire Stone. The evolution process automatically starts once the Fire Stone is given to the Pokemon."
"Perfect. Now…. How about you, Elaine," he asked.
"Right. An example of a Pokemon that requires trading to evolve is Kadabra, the first evolution of Abra, the Teleportation Pokemon. Upon trading, Kadabra evolves into its final form, Alakazam, a Pokemon said to have an IQ of over 9000."
"Great! It's your turn next, Serena."
"Some of the hardest Pokemon to evolve are those that require to be traded while holding an evolution item," Serena read. "An example of this is Scyther, which evolves into Scizor when traded while holding an evolution item known as the metal coat."
"Ok you may close your books for now, class," Professor Oak said. For the next half an hour, the Professor showed all the students the different evolution items and explained which Kanto Pokemon evolve using items and the items used to evolve.
"Ok class, that's about it for the first section of the reading," Professor Oak said. "Now we'll see some of these evolutions in action, and end class with a surprise about one of the most mysterious Pokemon in the world."
The professor led the trainers to the corral where a small group of Pokemon were waiting for them. "Are you all ready," The Professor asked. He took out some evolution items from his pocket and set them in front of the Pokemon. "Ok, guys. It's time," He said. The pokemon touched the stones and began to grow a bright color before slowly evolving. Now, they were the newly evolved Arcanine, along with a Nidoking, a Vileplume, an Exeggutor, and a Starmie.
"You see," The professor said. "These Pokemon have all evolved after coming into contact with their respective stones. One of this world's biggest mysteries is why some Pokemon require specific items to evolve."
"Wow that's so cool," Ash said.
"Aww, Ninetails is so cute," Serena said, rushing over to the Pokemon.
"And look at the Exeggutor. It evolved using a leaf stone," Leaf said.
"Ok class. Now we're going to have a small quiz," Professor Oak said. "You will be given the names of 20 Pokemon and must choose which method of evolution they use. If they use an item, you must state which item is used." The entire class groaned at that but obediently went inside to get the test over with. After the test was over, Professor Oak gave them half an hour of free time, while he quickly graded all of them.
When he was done, he called all the students over. "Ok class. The average score was 16 out of 20. The highest score was Gary and Ash who both got 19's." Both boys began to glare at this, as once again they had ended up tying. "Now we'll get to the surprise I was talking to you about." He once again led the students inside.
"We'll be looking at a very special Pokemon today," he said. "This Pokemon is called Eevee." He displayed a picture of the small furry Pokemon on the board. "Now can someone tell me why Eevee is such a special Pokemon?" Professor Oak questioned. Everyone looked towards each other, confused. "No one knows? That's fine. You're about to find out."
"He pressed a button and the image changed to that of a group of Pokemon. And Eevee could be seen in the center with arrows pointing out of it to 7 other Pokemon.
"What are all these Pokemon, Professor," Ash asked.
"Those are all the evolved forms of Eevee, Ash," Professor Oak said. The entire class gasped at that.
"There's that many?" One of the students asked.
"Yes, Their names are Flareon, Jolteon, Vaporeon, Espeon, Umbreon, Glaceon, and Leafeon," Professor Oak said. "And they all have unique methods of evolving."
With the press of another button, the picture changed to that of the fire, water, and electric type Eeveelutions. "These are Flareon, Vaporeon, and Jolteon, the fire, water, and electric type evolutions of Eevee." The professor instructed. "They evolve using a Fire, Water, and Thunder Stone respectively."
The picture then changed to the ice and grass type evolutions. "This is Glaceon the ice type Eeveelution, and the other Pokemon is its counterpart, Leafeon, the grass type evolution of Eevee. These evolve when close to a moss rock or ice rock."
"The last two evolutions of Eevee are Espeon and Umbreon," The professor said, switching the images again. "These two are the most peculiar. An Eevee requires a powerful bond with its trainer to evolve into either of these two Pokemon. If it evolves during the day, it becomes an Espeon, and it evolves into Umbreon at night."
"Wow!" The whole class said. They couldn't believe that one Pokemon could have so many different evolutions.
"Ok! That's it for today's class," Professor Oak said. "You all may return home now if you would like." Soon all the students had gone back home to get a good night's rest.
-Last day of Camp-
"Ok class," Professor Oak started. "You all have been excellent students for this week-long summer course, and have learned a lot more about Pokemon."
"Yea, all thanks to you, Professor," Ash said.
"No problem, Ash," The professor said smiling kindly. "Over this last week, you have learned about different evolution items, healing items, and a lot more. Just yesterday you learned about all the different types of Pokeballs and their effects." The class remembered getting to see a master ball for the first time. They knew that a master ball was incredibly rare, and the fact that the Professor had one was mind-blowing for them.
"So today, we're going to do something fun and educational to end our time together." Professor Oak said. "We're going to be having a scavenger hunt. Around the entire camp, lots of different items have been hidden. Even in the Forest and inside some of the rooms." While talking, he passed out baskets to everyone along with a piece of paper with the names of the items that they all had to find.
"You will need to find the items on your list. There are multiple of each item, so don't fight over them," The professor stated. "The winner will get a prize at the end, and you will have until lunch to look. This will also show me how much you have learned if you manage to find all the correct items. Many have been disguised as other items to make it trickier." The students looked at each other and grinned. This would be tricky, but it would be fun.
"You hear that, Ash," Gary asked.
"Sure do!" Ash said. "And I'm gonna win it for sure!"
"Ha!" Gary laughed. "Keep dreaming. The winner's gonna be me."
"Oh, yeah?" Ash yelled.
"Yea!" Gary yelled back.
"We'll just see about that," Ash said as the two glared at each other.
"Ok calm down boys," The professor intervened. "Let's start the hunt. 3…. 2…. 1….GO." All the students immediately dashed off to complete their challenge. Gary immediately ran towards the classrooms. He knew the area best and wanted to check the classes first because they provided great places to hide things. Leaf ran to the river along with Elaine, while Serena went off into the forest, knowing that no one else would check there. Ash and Red ran in the direction of the grassy fields, noticing that no one else was going there either.
-Gary's Search-
"Ha! I know some of the best hiding places here. I'm sure I can win it," Gary thought to himself. "Hmm. I'll look in the classrooms first." Gary ran into the lab and looked through the rooms. "Let's see," he said. He quickly skimmed over the items and then looked around. "So I need to find a quick ball huh," he said to himself. "No biggie. I'll just go to the Pokeball storage room." He made his way to the room and looked at the large assortments of empty Pokeballs. He picked out a quick ball, put it in his basket, and crossed off the item from his list. After further searching, he also found the Fire Stone as well as a stuffed Squirtle. "Ha, I'm well on my way to winning this. I'm sure no one else has found a single item yet," he thought, as he walked over to the next area to search.
-Elaine and Leaf Searching-
"Hey Leaf," Elaine called. "Let's go check out the river area."
"Ok sure," Leaf answered. "Looks like no one else is going there anyway."
The two girls quickly ran over to the river. There were lots of small bushes and trees that would make great hiding places. Leaf took the left side of the river past the small bridge, while Elaine searched on the right side.
"Hmm, I'll start looking in the bushes fest," Elaine thought. "Maybe I'll find something hidden there." After searching through the bushes Elaine came across one of the items on her list. A luxury ball. Along the side of the bridge, she also found 2 old rods, which happened to be on Leaf's list as well.
In the meantime, Leaf was busy looking in the trees situated on the left side of the river. "So, I need to find an Everstone," She thought. She looked towards the river bank and saw multiple rocks near it. After a closer look, she realized that one of them was very smooth. "This must be the ever stone," she thought, putting it in her basket.
In about 15 minutes, Leaf and Elaine had found a luxury ball, 2 old rods, an Everstone, as well as a potion and a Pecha berry. They were about to leave when Elain stumbled, dropping the luxury ball onto a sharp rock on the ground. She was about to pick it up when she noticed something peculiar "Hey! Look at that. There's something red underneath this," She said.
She quickly grabbed the rock and started trying to reveal the red area. "No way! This was just a Pokeball painted to look like a luxury ball!" Leaf cried.
"Oh well," Elaine said. "The Professor had said that there would be disguised items to trick us and make it more complicated. We'll just have to check all the remaining items more carefully."
"Yea! How about we go check out the sandy area next," Leaf asked.
"Sure," Elaine answered as the friends walked over to their next destination. "Looks like we're doing really good. We'll definitely win this," Elaine said.
-Grass Area (Ash and Red)-
"So Red," Ash asked, "What's the first item on your list? Mine is a dragon scale!"
"Wow. That one may be hard to find," Red said grimly. "I need to get a miracle seed."
"That one sounds easy," Ash said. "I'll put off the dragon scale for now and look for a yellow shard instead."
"Ok let's get going then," Red said as they reached the fields. In a couple of minutes the two had already found the miracle seed and the yellow shard. Ash had also gotten his dire hit and Red had managed to cross off his 5th item, a metal coat. After making sure that nothing else was hidden around the area, they decided to head on to the forest.
-Forest (Serena)-
"Ohh, I shouldn't have come into the forest alone," Serena thought for the hundredth time as she shivered with fright. The large trees completely blocked out the sunlight, making it very dark and scary to be in there alone. Serena was in here searching for a leaf stone.
"I hope I can find the leaf stone fast and get out of here," Serena thought. Suddenly she noticed something odd protruding from a tree trunk. Pulling it out, she noticed it was a rock with a leaf engraved in it. With a start, she realized this was what she was looking for, and stuffed the rock into her bag.
She was about to turn around when she heard a rustling sound from behind her. A small shadowy figure jumped out of the bushes. "AAHHHHHH," Serena screamed, taking a step backward. As she moved back, she tripped and her knee ended up hitting the tree trunk. She cried out with pain, as the black figure once again retreated into the bushes.
-Forest (Ash and Red)-
"Hey, Ash, what do you wanna look for first?" Red asked.
"Well, we both have to find a big root," Ash said, "So let's look for those first."
"Sounds good to me," Red said, as both boys walked deeper into the forest. After a while of searching, Red noticed some roots coming out of the ground around a large clump of bushes. "Hey Ash," He said, beckoning the other boy over. "Look at these."
"Hey! You found it," Ash said. "Good job. Lets both take one and look for the next object." The boys quickly ripped out the roots and put them in their respective baskets before heading off to look for the next item on their list. Suddenly, they heard a loud scream and turned to look at each other. -Grass Area (Ash and Red)-
"Wait that sounded like," Red said nervously.
"SERENA!" Both brothers yelled, running in the direction of the scream. After a couple of minutes, they came across a small clearing and noticed their friend on the ground clutching her knee in pain.
"Serena, What happened," Red asked, kneeling down next to her.
"S-something startled me, and I accidentally tripped and hurt my knee," Serena said. She tried to move but stopped when the pain started to increase.
"It's ok, Serena," Ash said, pulling out his handkerchief. He tied the handkerchief on the scrapes as a makeshift bandage to prevent it from bleeding any more. "Can you walk?"
Serena tried to stand up but fell back down. "No. It hurts too much," She said.
"It's ok, We'll help you get back to the lab," Ash said. He put one of Serena's arms around his shoulders while Red took the other. Together they supported her and made sure her injured foot was off the ground with no strain on it. It was long and tiring but they finally made it back to the camp right as the time given for the Scavenger Hunt ended.
"Ha! Ash, looks like I beat you," Gary taunted, showing off his full basket and the completed list of items. "Woah wait a minute. What happened to Serena," he asked, finally noticing.
"She got hurt, so we brought her back," Ash said. "She can't walk because it hurts so much."
"Oh. So that's why you guys didn't finish the hunt," Gary said. "Sorry."
"It's ok. Can you call Professor Oak to help treat Serena," Red asked him. Gary quickly ran into the lab and returned a coupe moments later with the Professor, who was holding a first aid kit. Pulling off the handkerchief, he quickly cleaned out the wound and applied a fresh bandage, before giving Serena some medicine to help her sleep, promising that the pain would be gone when she woke up.
"Ok students. Please come here to decide the winner," Professor Oak said. "Gary here brought back all of the items, and was the only one to do so, which makes him the winner." Everyone clapped politely even though they were disappointed that they didn't win. "On the other hand, Ash and Red put aside the hunt and helped their injured friend back to camp, making them winners in their own way." The students applauded again as the two brothers turned red with embarrassment.
"Hey gramps, how about we split up the prize 3 ways," Gary asked. "Ash and Red definitely could have finished as well."
"Oh, this isn't a prize that can be split up. I'll be giving the prize to all three of you," Professor Oak said. "The prizes for winning are… these Pokemon Eggs." The whole class was shocked. They knew Pokemon eggs were very rare. "There are 5 eggs here, and each of you may pick one."
The professor brought out a small cart with 5 eggs and incubators. 2 of the eggs were a dark shade of blue and had 2 black teardrop shapes on either side. The third egg was white and orange and seemed to radiate heat. Another egg seemed like it was made completely of metal, and the last egg was shaped like a rock.
"You can choose first Gary," Ash said.
Gary walked up to the cart and said, "I choose this one." He picked up the orange and white egg and gently put it into the incubator.
"Great!" Red said. "Let's go, Ash." The twins walked up to the eggs, wondering which to pick. Suddenly they both felt a tug. Something was pulling them towards the blue eggs. Confused, they walked to the blue ones and picked them up. Feeling the same energy again, they knew these were the eggs they wanted.
"Professor we'll take these," Ash said as he and Red placed the eggs into the incubator.
"Excellent choice," Professor Oak commented. "I myself don't know what they will hatch into. Do take good care of them."
"You can count on that, Gramps," Gary said, and Ash and Red nodded in agreement,
Professor Oak then turned to the rest of the students. "And with this, your time at my summer camp has come to an end." He quickly wiped his eyes before continuing. "You have all been excellent students and have learned much in this camp that you can utilize on your journey. My doors are always open to you should you need any help. I'm sure that you all will be incredible trainers in the future. Good luck to you all. You have the rest of the time to play, have fun, and say your goodbyes." After finishing he walked back inside the lab while the children started playing.
A couple of hours later, camp's hours had officially ended, and everyone was about to leave to return home. Ash and his friends quickly went up to Ritchie. "Hey Ritchie, Thanks a lot," Ash said.
"It's been great hanging out with you all," Ritchie said to everyone.
"Make sure you come back and visit us sometime," Serena said.
"Don't forget us," Serena chimed in.
"Yea. I can't have somebody forgetting about me, The Great Gary Oak," Gary commented.
"Oh come on," Red said, rolling his eyes. "Take care of yourself, Ritchie."
"Show me any grass type Pokemon you catch next time we meet," Leaf said.
"You got it Leaf. And I'll definitely come back to visit whenever I can," Ritchie said.
"Hey Ritchie, it's time to go," A voice called. Parked at the gate of the lab was a car, from which Ritchie's parents emerged.
"Yea just one minute," Ritchie said, before turning back to his friends. "Well, I guess this is it, guys." They all had a quick group hug before Ritchie said his goodbye and leaped into the car. Ash, Red, Gary, Elaine, Serena, and Leaf walked back to their own homes, thinking about all the memories they had made over the last week. Memories that would stay with them, forever.
And there it is. I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter, even if it is a bit cringy. I ended up squeezing Day 5 and 6 into one chapter cause I assumed you guys had enough of them being 5-year-olds. Because of that this chapter is extra long compared to the other ones (above 5000 words instead of around 3000 like usual).
Quick Summary: This chapter explained Shadow's minion getting punished for his failure. It went over all of day 5, and a summary of day 6 as well as the final day of Summer Camp in which Serena got injured. I also had this idea of finally giving them these Pokemon Eggs. I'm sure you guys can guess what Pokemon is gonna hatch from the eggs they received.
As I've said before, I will be needing OC's in this story in the future. The first OC will come in Viridian City, and I'd like to thank GA Pokemon Fan for offering his OC for that chapter. I'd also like to thank Northstar Pokeshipper for letting me use him as an OC. If anyone wants to help me by giving me more OC's, please do PM me or send me your OC as a review. It would be a big help!
All I'm asking for the OC is some basic information such as full name, hometown, home region, age, Pokemon team, personality, occupation (What they want to become, such as trainer, coordinator, performer, etc). At the same time, I'm not accepting any OC gym leaders or Elite 4s or Champions (unless they were one of these in the past and no longer are or are trying to become one). OC's will be greatly appreciated. Please try to make sure your OC's are not very overpowered, since I'm still early on in the story and will need mostly weaker characters at this point in time.
Other than that, Ash's Poll is back on and it'll stay up for at least another week. Maybe even two weeks. The current standings for that poll remain the same as before and can be viewed in Chapter 3. After that the polls for pairings will be set on my profile, switching back and forth every week.
Ok, that's about it! I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please remember to review, ask any questions you have, give suggestions, and vote in the poll. Constructive criticism will be greatly appreciated, as it'll help me become a better writer. If you guys liked the story, then please do favorite the story or follow it. Thanks!
Peace Out and see you all next time.
