Memories
"Hey, Serena?"
"Yes, Shauna?"
"Do you ever wonder what it'd be like if you hadn't moved to Kalos? Or if you'd moved here just a little later or sooner?"
Serena shifted slightly so she could look down at Shauna. They were currently in Serena's flat in Lumiose City, curled up on the couch after watching a couple of cheesy old movies. She'd bought the place not long after becoming Champion, and, since she'd taken the day off, her girlfriend had come to visit her there.
"I guess I do sometimes," Serena replied, sliding her arm around Shauna's waist. "Why do you ask?"
Shauna looked up, though left her cheek against Serena's shoulder. "I dunno. I was just thinking... if we hadn't met when we did, do you think we still would've ended up together? And our dates are some of the best memories I have... I'd never want to give this up!"
They'd finally started dating not long after Shauna had gotten back from her trip to visit places outside of Kalos. Serena had thought about asking her out several times before then, but she'd kept putting it off. The thought made her feel various combinations of guilty and curious sometimes, but she agreed that she was ridiculously happy with Shauna now. Wasn't that what mattered?
"I agree. I'm happiest when I'm with you... And I'd never give this up, either."
Serena pecked Shauna on the forehead, and she replied by closing her eyes and humming happily. Then, Serena squeezed Shauna's hand for attention.
"Now how about we go out for dinner? I haven't been to the Sushi High Roller in ages," Serena suggested.
"That sounds great! Let's go."
Shauna instantly leapt off the couch with all of her usual energy. Serena was slightly disappointed by the momentary loss of warmth from contact, but she quickly reached for Shauna's hand after she stood up. Together, they left the apartment and headed out into the busy streets of Lumiose City.
And, as Shauna grinned and swung their arms lightly as they walked, Serena thought she truly was the luckiest girl in the whole world.
