Chapter 15

Sam could not sleep as he thought about the quest before them and if they would make it back. He was also worried about his best friend, he saw what they ring had done to Gollum but he had not seen any signs of it on his friend as of yet but Frodo had always had a strong will and he had to hope that would be enough.

"So bright, so Beautiful our precious." Gollum started talking to himself and Sam remembered what Harry had told him and decided now was as good a time as any to try and at least start to help the fallen hobbit.

"You know Gollum the ring has no hold over you unless you let it." Sam sat down beside Gollum as he ran his hand through his hair.

"How would you know, you know nothing of us?" Gollum snapped glaring out at the swamp.

"I know just enough to know that no one was there for you when the ring seduced you. You only had yourself. I have to believe that if someone was there to help you, if someone cared enough to see that you needed help then you might have overcome the ring's influence." Sam replied looking over a Gollum.

"Why, why do you have to believe this?" Gollum's voice changed from angry to insecure.

"Because if I give up hope on that then I have to give up hope that Frodo can make it through. I won't let him fall as he is my best friend so that is not an option. I also have hope that maybe we can help you along the way." Sam thought he was getting through to Gollum.

"How do you get someone who is long gone to forgive you?" Gollum looked up at Sam with big eyes full of pain.

Sam put his arm around the small deformed small hobbits "Who do you want forgiveness from if I may ask?"

"His name was Degal he was my only friend and I killed him because the ring told me too. After I had killed him I tried to explain it to my village but the stoned me and drove me away where I settled in the misty mountains, alone." Gollum explained as he tried to turn away thinking that Sam would turn on him to now that he knew.

"Well I think to gain Degal's forgiveness you should do now what you did not do then and help us destroy the ring now." Sam sighed before continuing "I will help you as much as I can to find yourself again, and to help you gain the forgiveness you seek and hopefully we can do it together."

Gollum smiled a little "I think we can try, can you call me Smegal as that was my name a long time ago."

"Sure Smegal I think I can do that." Sam gave the deformed hobbit a small side hug.

Frodo finally cut in "I will help you as well Smegal, your helping us it is only fair and right that we help you too."

Remus could not help but smile at the three of them knowing that they were now on the right path. "We should try and get more sleep young ones we have a long journey ahead of us."

But right as they three hobbits had stood a loud shriek echoed around them. Gollum yelled at them to hide as Sam saw the black rider and warned the others. So enough they were all hidden under a huge shrub like tree. Frodo heard the ring start to call for him to put it on but instead he grabbed the ring Harry had given to him when they had separated from the fellowship and put it on his finger and immediately the ring's voices where cut off he could not longer hear them and he felt lighter. Soon enough the wraith left and they decided to move on as it was no longer safe where they were. But as they set off all of them had a little more hope that they might succeed than they did before and also had grown closer as a group.

Soon enough the group had come across where the Uruk's had been slaughtered by Éomer and his men. Gimli started to sift through the bodies trying to find any sign of the hobbits among them. Soon enough he had found one of their belts. Harry's who had been sniffing around as a wolf howled sadly as Aragorn screamed in frustrated grief.

Harry then saw that right at Aragorn's feet was a indention in the ground just big enough for a hobbit to lay and woofed drawing attention to it. "A hobbit lay here," Aragorn studied the indent and noticed another sitting next to it, " and the other was right here." He continued as he ran his hand lightly through the indention.
"Harry do you think you could follow the trial hopefully we can find out what happened to them?" Aragorn could not help but laugh at the insulted look that crossed Harry's face even as a wolf it was easy to make out.

Harry snorted at Aragorn and started to follow the trail soon enough they found to bounds of rope that had been cut soon enough they followed the trail right to Fangorn Forest.

"Fangorn, what madness drove them in there." Gimli breathed out in stunned wonder.

"Not madness Gimli but desperation." Just as Harry said this his eyes bled to white his father started to come to his side to make sure his son was alright but Aragorn beat him to it and held Harry steady as the vision happened. Once he came back to them Harry was breathing hard but knew what he had to do. "I need to leave you all here. I will meet back up with you all in Edarass but there is someone one I need to save. All of you be careful."

"Why do you need to go?" Aragorn asked wondering why Harry had to go when they needed to stick together.

"Because I need to save the life of someone my brother loves." Harry replied to Aragorn before turning to Draco "I promise I will save him Dray, I won't let you lose someone else that you love."

A tear escaped from Draco's eye as he nodded his thanks and hugged his brother "You stay safe you here I better not come to Edarass to find you dead, or I will bring you back myself just so I can kill you again."

Harry chuckled but nodded before appirating away.
