"Why?!" Will yelled.
"Because, it will be so much easier." Rose said. "The costumes are easier to find, the sets are easier to build, and the script will be easier to learn and understand. Plus, Charlee's the drama kid, she should be the main person behind this."
"But We Will Rock You has Queen!" Will complained. "That should be the main reason we do anything! And why should Charlee get to make all the decisions?"
"Will, we're sorry, but our decision is final." Chris said.
"This is bullshit!" Will exclaimed. With that he left the apartment, slamming the door behind him.
"Anyways..." Rose said. "I talked to Sanchez this morning, and he said he's cool with Heathers, as long as we cut out the f-bombs, and the sex scenes. He also reasoned with me, and now only half of us have to be in it, so...Not it!"
"And I'm doing the set with the art club!" Alex said quickly. "So, not it!"
"So, that leaves Will, Charlee, Bradley, and me?" Chris huffed.
"Charlee's probably already given herself the part of Veronica Sawyer, am I right?" Rose asked. Charlee nodded. "And we can just put Will in since he's being an ass. So, that just leaves you two."
"How should we decide?" Bradley asked.
"Draw straws?" Chris shrugged.
"I have a better idea." Alex smiled.
An hour later, they were up at the moonbase, Will and Chris sitting in desk chairs, holding fire hydrants. A few moonbase operatives, Rose, Mindy, Alex, Charlee and Jason Stork were there, cheering them on.
"Okay, on the count of three, release the pins." Charlee said, standing behind them. "The first one to make it to the other side wins!"
"One!" Rose yelled.
"Two!" Alex yelled.
"THREE!"
Chris and Bradley immediately let go of the pins to their fire hydrants, racing to the other side, a trail of foam following each of them. The audience began cheering and clapping as they raced, both putting more pressure on the handle.
Though it was close, Bradley was the first one to make it to the other side, laughing as he did.
"Yes, eat it Chris!" He yelled, setting the fire hydrant down. He rose his arms in victory as the crowd cheered, Rose high fiving him as she walked over.
"Shit." Chris groaned, letting his fire hydrant fall to the ground. He got up and walked over to Charlee, who was sitting by Jason and Alex.
"Who's the first person who dies?" Chris groaned.
"Heather Chandler." Charlee said.
"Can I be her?" Chris asked.
"Do you want to be an extra?" Charlee laughed.
"You do have a heart." Chris sighed. "What would being an extra mean?"
"You'd be a student throughout and only sing during "Beautiful" and the reprise of "Dead Girl Walking"." Charlee explained.
"That works for me." Chris smiled. "What's Will going to be?"
"I think I can make him Kurt Kelly." Charlee said. "He'd die about half way through, though he would appear again during "Yo Girl"."
"When are auditions?" Chris asked. "Assuming we'll have them."
"Next weekend, but you and Will don't have to audition." Charlee said
"What about me?" Jason asked, smiling at her.
"You have to, you're auditioning for JD." Charlee said, putting her hand on his.
"But, I'll get preferential treatment, since I'm the boyfriend of the girl playing Veronica, right?" Jason said.
"If you can sing." Charlee smiled. "And act deranged."
"Possibly on the act deranged part. I don't know about singing though." Jason said as he placed a small kiss on Charlee's temple, and she leaned back into him. Alex immediately got up, mumbling about how he needed a cigarette. Chris followed him, curious of why he was acting so weird.
"Why have you been smoking so much lately?" Chris asked as he followed Alex into the hallway. "That's like your third pack this week."
"Nothing, I just have a headache." Alex mumbled, lighting up a cigarette.
"You've been smoking constantly since, like, November." Chris said. "Anything you want to talk about?"
"Fuck off, Chris!" Alex said in between puffs. "I'm fine."
"You're going to give yourself lung cancer, but fine." Chris said. "But if you need to talk about anything, I'm here."
"Just leave me alone." Alex said.
Chris sighed and left Alex alone to brood about whatever, making his way back to the main entrance where Mindy was standing, hands on her hips.
"You know it's because of Charlee and Jason, right?" Mindy smirked.
"What?" Chris asked.
"Alex is jealous of Jason, and every time he sees Charlee with him, he has the urge to smoke." Mindy said. "I thought you knew that, he's only be in love with her since he was 11."
"I thought he was over her after Jacob." Chris admitted. "He still likes her?"
"Duh." Mindy laughed as they walked over to a table and sat down. "Don't you notice the way he looks at her?"
"I don't know." Chris shrugged. "He told us he was over her when she started dating Jacob, and then he started dating McKinley Howard, so we thought so to."
"He was obviously just trying to get back at her for dating Jacob." Mindy said. "And isn't she in jail now?"
"She got arrested for DUI, but that's it." Chris said.
"Nice." Mindy said. "So, are you playing Kurt Kelley or Ram Sweeney?"
"Extra #1." Chris smiled. "But Will is Kurt Kelley. Why?"
"Just curious." Mindy said. "So, if I were to audition, what do you think the chances of me getting a part are?"
"Mindy why would you want to?" Chris asked. "We're being forced to do it, Jason's doing it to impress Charlee, and everyone else in it is just doing it since they're drama geeks?"
"It would be fun." Mindy shrugged. "And I feel like I never see you guys anymore. You're always busy and trying to avoid the AND, and sometimes I get caught up in the mix." She gave him a sad look, causing Chris to pity her.
"Hey, Minds, I'm really sorry." Chris said. "And if you were to audition, I can guarantee you would get a part."
"Even with the Drama Bitch as the director." Mindy said.
"What?" Chris said.
"You don't know." Mindy said.
"Know what?" Chris asked, worried.
"Never mind, I shouldn't talk about it with outsiders." Mindy said, getting up.
"Wait, Mindy, what?"
The next Saturday came, and Chris, Bradley, and Rose were sat in their high school auditorium, ready to start auditions, and waiting for Charlee, Alex, and Will. Surrounding them were drama kids, reading over the parts they were auditioning for. Bradley had fallen asleep in the table, Chris was mindlessly scrolling through social media, and Rose was planning on how to kill Charlee, Will, and Alex.
"Honestly, all they have to do is wake up at nine, get ready, and be here by eleven, but no, Charlee and Will are probably just now getting up, and they'll take five hours to get ready, and Alex is probably not going to wake up until two. Honestly, this is mostly because of them, since Will and Alex have more detentions than all of us combined, and Charlee's the main person behind this."
"Yeah." Chris said, not looking up from his phone.
"Mmhm." Bradley groaned in his sleep.
The door to the auditorium then opened again, but instead of who they hoped, it was just Sanchez.
"Hey guys." He said, smiling. "Where are the others?"
"Taking their sweet time." Rose said. "They can never arrive at the agreed time."
"I see." Sanchez said. "Is there any way to get them here faster?"
"I texted Alex and Will that the volleyball team was practicing in the gym." Chris said. "But I don't think they've read it yet."
"The volleyball team isn't practicing." Sanchez said. "Why would you tell them that in the first place?"
"Alex is horny, Will is a pervert, and the volleyball team mainly consists of people who are considered..." Chris trailed off.
"Whores." Rose finished.
"Essentially." Chris said.
"Your mother was on the volleyball team." Sanchez said.
"Which one?" Rose asked.
"Rachel McKenzie."
"And how old was she when she had us?" Rose asked.
"Point taken." Sanchez said. "Anyways, are they coming before noon?"
"That's debatable." Angie said as she walked over to them with Jason and Mindy.
"Hey Angie." Rose said. "Are you auditioning?"
"Yeah, I have to do it for community service." Angie shrugged, sitting in the seats behind them. "Not because I want to get laid."
"I'm not doing it to get laid." Jason said. "I'm doing it to support my sweet, and talented girlfriend."
"Please, you want to get laid." Angie laughed.
"You want to get laid." Jason said.
"I get laid by more people than you ever will." Angie retorted.
"I didn't finish." Jason said. "By Will."
Angie's face turned red
After her and Will's breakup (of a relationship that was built on sexual frustration from two years of pissing each other off and had lasted about half a week), the two of them had avoided each other like the plague, and had been distracting themselves with other people. Though, there was still an obvious attraction, one often blushing when the other's name was mentioned.
"I don't care about Will." She asserted.
"Moving on." Sanchez said from where he was sitting uncomfortably. "Could we begin without them?"
"I mean, I guess." Chris shrugged. "Though Char would be pissed."
"Well, let's go ahead." Sanchez said, walking up to the stage and turning on the mic.
"Okay everyone, welcome to auditions for Heathers: The Musical. Some of our directors are running late, so let's go ahead and start-"
The door then burst open, Charlee striding forward, Will and Alex following her. As she made her way to the stage, several drama geeks began to whisper to themselves, while staring at her fearfully. Will and Alex sat down with Rose, Chris, and Bradley as she got up on the stage with Sanchez. Sanchez then sat back down with the others.
"What the hell took you guys so long?" Rose asked.
"Charlee took forever getting ready." Will said. "She said that she need to get 'the look' just right, or no one would take her seriously."
'The Look' Will was referencing, was a green and white striped turtleneck, a black skirt, and doc martens. Charlee had also placed her hair in an elegant bun on the side of her head and was wearing extreme makeup which probably took at least an hour to do. Compared to the rest of them in jeans, t-shirts, and hoodies, she looked much more drama-kid-esque.
"Hello everyone!" Charlee said into the mic. "I'm sure you all remember me from my previous years, but for the new ones, I'll introduce myself. I am Charlotte Anastasia Albright, and I am the lead director, music coordinator, casting head, wardrobe head, makeup head, choreographer, and the lead actress of this production of Heathers. You may remember me from some of my earlier performances, Small Alice in Alice in Wonderland, Mrs. Pots from Beauty and the Beast, Ariel, from The Little Mermiad..."
"Is she listing every play she's been in since the third grade?" Chris leaned over to ask.
"It appears so." Rose whispered back.
As Charlee droned on about herself, Chris looked around to see all the Drama geeks whispering to themselves and looking up at Charlee with worry in their eyes. Chris remembered what Mindy had said about "Drama Bitch" being in charge.
"...But nothing will mean as much to me as this role will, as it is not also my comeback, but my directorial debut, along with my assistant directors, Chris and Rose Peters, Will Albright, Bradley Williams, and Alex Carter. Will and Chris will also have a part of the play, while Alex will be in charge of props, and Bradley will be our stage technician. So let us begin!"
"I should go." Sanchez said, getting up. "Good Luck."
Charlee sat down next to her friends, smiled, and pulled out a huge binder full of notes and other things.
"Wow." Rose said. "You've put a lot of work into this."
"It's my comeback." Charlee said. "My chance to show them all."
"Why did you leave the Drama club in the first place?" Chris asked
Charlee laughed nervously. "No reason. Let's start. Erin Baker!"
A sophomore with light brown hair went to the stage smiling nervously.
"Hey Charlee." She said nervously, sweating a bit. "Long time no see."
"What part are you auditioning for, Erin?"
"Um, uh-uh Heather Duke." She stuttered.
"Okay." Charlee said, flipping through her script. "Please read the section from the song "Beautiful".
"O-okay." Erin said, her hands shaking as she flipped to the page.
"Um-um-um, do you do prescriptions?" She stuttered.
"Shut up, Heather." Charlee said, reading along.
"Sorry, Heather." Erin said.
She read through her part, stuttering slightly, but did a decent job singing. Chris, Alex, Rose, Bradley, and Will thought she did an okay job, though she was slightly nervous.
"Okay." Charlee said as she jotted some things down in her notebook as Erin finished. "You did okay with the singing, which as you know, is very important, but not our one priority. You see, Heather Duke needs to have confidence. She is the richest girl in school, and can buy her way out of anything. The actress who plays her must be confident in her part, do you understand?"
"Um, yes." Erin said.
"Good." Charlee said. "You may take a seat."
Erin left the stage as everyone turned to Charlee.
"That was a little harsh." Will whispered.
"Yeah, it sounds like she was just nervous." Chris said.
"Well, I can't have Heather Duke stuttering when an entire audience is watching." Charlee said. "NEXT!"
As the auditions went on, Charlee only grew more hash. It got to the point where she was hurling insults at one person, stating she couldn't have an actor wet himself on stage.
"NEXT!" Charlee screamed. Angie then took the stage, giving the other five a look.
"Okay, I'm auditioning for Heather McNarma." Angie said.
"Okay, read the paragraph on page 130 and sing Lifeboat." Charlee said.
Angie began her part, Will staring at her the entire time. He thought she looked beautiful up there, not stuttering, and unafraid of his sister. He also thought she sang beautifully when she began to sing, not as well as the actress who had originally played McNarma, but not terribly either. Once she had finished, she had looked to Charlee, waiting for an insult.
"Not...terrible." Charlee said. "But there is still room for improvement. I'll advise you on it later. But for now, NEXT!"
Angie smiled and got off the stage, and sat down next to Jason, whispering him a good-luck.
Jason got up and went to the stage, and gave Charlee a small smile. Charlee smiled back and gave him a wink, asking him to sing "Our Love Is God".
Jason had many talents. He was skilled in technology, a great guard to the TND, and did decent in school. He also could be a great actor. It's just that, he wasn't exactly gifted in singing.
He was absolutely terrible.
Rose slightly flinched as he began, Chris and Alex had exchanged looks, Will had a pained look on his face, and Bradley had been woken from his sleep.
As soon as he finished, Rose let out a sigh of relief as Charlee began to clap.
"You did amazing Jason!" Charlee exclaimed.
Everyone snapped their head to look at her, giving her the look of "What the Fuck?".
The drama kids were even confused to why Charlee was applauding him, having heard his terrible voice from their seats.
"Next!" Charlee said happily.
The auditions continued, Charlee mostly giving not-so-constructive criticism, even to Mindy, until it was finally over. Everyone who had auditioned had lined up on stage, per Charlee's request, as she paced in front of them.
"After much contemplation," Charlee said.
"Not much." Rose added.
"And debate,"
"None." Alex said.
"We have decided,"
"Charlee has decided." Will whispered.
"On the perfect cast."
"Which Charlee has picked based on who she's fucking." Chris whispered back.
"All of us have carefully watched your auditions."
"I was asleep for most of them." Bradley said.
"And have decided on which characters would suit each of you best."
"As you know, I am playing the lead role of Veronica Sawyer." Charlee said. "And Will is playing the role of Kurt Kelly's dad, and Chris is playing Kurt Kelly."
"Wait!" Chris said. "I thought you were going to have me be an extra."
"Well, Chris." Charlee said. "I realized that it was probably for the best if I change your part to Kurt Kelly, since Will's my brother and would it really be appropriate for him to sing a song about me making his balls blue."
"Well, have someone else play the character." Chris argued.
"Well, um, Chris...Will you explain." Charlee said.
"Charlee told me that you would play this particular character if I did the play." Will smirked. "And I'm going to enjoy watching you sing a song about how your balls are blue."
"Charlee!" Chris exclaimed.
"I'm sorry, Chris, but it was the only way he'd cooperate." Charlee said.
"Fuck this." Chris said, getting up.
"If he's not doing it, I'm not." Will said, following him.
"Wait guys." Charlee said, getting up as well.
"Char, we can talk to them later." Rose said as they left. "Just continue here."
"Fine." Charlee said. "The cast is..."
Chris was waiting tables at the diner an hour after the auditions. During the holiday seasons, he had worked to make some extra cash, but had eventually stuck with the job, since nowhere else was really hiring, and he needed the money. As he was taking orders, Rose, Charlee, Alex, and Bradley walked in. Charlee and Alex went to the back as Rose and Bradley sat down in a booth.
"Chris." Rose said. He gave her a pouty look.
"Why did you pull an Albright?" Bradley asked.
"What?" Chris asked.
"You stormed off when something didn't go your way." Rose explained. "Besides you didn't stay for the rest of the cast announcements."
"Does it matter?" Chris asked.
"Charlee cast Zoey Pradesh as Heather Chandler." Bradley smirked. Chris's eyes bulged out.
"Zoey Pradesh? Zoey Pradesh, the girl who I've had a crush on since I was 13? The prettiest girl in school Zoey Pradesh?" Chris asked.
"You have almost every scene with her, until she dies, and then you die quickly after." Rose explained.
"But I didn't see her audition." Chris said.
"You and Alex went to get lunch when she auditioned." Rose explained.
"So, I'm going to get to, like, talk to Zoey." Chris said.
"And hopefully move on from your stalker like crush, yes." Bradley said.
As Chris smiled with glee, the door opened, and a very panicky Fanny Fulbright came in. She immediately spotted Rose, Bradley, and Chris and went over to them.
"Are Charlee and Will here?" She asked them quickly, wringing her hands together.
"Charlee's in the back, and I have no idea where Will is." Chris asked. "Why?"
Fanny swore under her breath. "I have a date tonight, and I don't want them to know." She admitted.
"We won't tell them." Rose said. "Who is it with?"
"Um...No one you would know." Fanny said nervously. "I just wish he would get here." She then left to go to the counter and get coffee to calm her nerves.
"That was weird." Rose said, turning back to Bradley and Chris.
"Kind of." Chris said. "So, who else is in the cast?"
"Angie is Heather McNarma." Bradley said. "Mindy's Martha, since she's so short and Charlee's best friend. And Jason is JD, since he's doing things with Charlee..."
"Oh shut up!" Rose said. "He's not a terrible actor."
"But he is essentially the worst singer in the history of singing." Bradley argued.
"The only reason he got the part was because he's fucking Charlee." Chris said. "Speaking of that, what the fuck was wrong with her today?"
"I know." Rose said. "She totally went ballistic on some of the people who auditioned. Is that why they call her "Drama Bitch"?"
"Who?" Bradley asked.
"I overheard some of the Drama kids calling Charlee that as she left." Rose said.
"Mindy actually mentioned that last week." Chris said. "She said that she wanted to audition, but she didn't think the "Drama Bitch" would let her."
"Well, she basically ripped everyone's souls out today." Rose said. "Except for Jason's."
"What are you guys talking about?" Charlee asked as she approached them.
"Nothing." Chris, Bradley, and Rose said quickly.
"Okay..." Charlee said. "Hey, Chris we need you in the back, and if you don't mind, could you-"
But Charlee didn't finish her sentence, as Will had burst in through the door at that moment, a person following him shortly.
"Will!" Charlee said. "Where the hell did you go after the auditions? Me and Alex-"
"Not now Char!" Will said excitedly. "Look who's back."
He stepped out of the way to reveal a woman in her late thirties, with blond hair and brown eyes, smiling happily at Charlee. Charlee's face immediately broke into a grin as she ran forward and hugged her. They broke apart and Charlee called for Alex, who came through the back a moment later.
"What?!" Alex asked, running over to Charlee. He then saw the woman, and ran over to her. "Mom!"
Fanny looked up, expecting to see Kuki there, but instead saw Alex and Charlee, hugging the woman, while telling her how much they had missed her.
As Kuki and Wally had walked in.
A/N: I actually updated in less than a month. I'm actually kind of proud of myself.
So, the new character isn't actually Charlee, Alex, and Will's mom (obviously) but the closest person they ever had to a mom. Obviously, she's going to pose a challenge for Fanny, Patton, Wally, and Kuki as they try to reconnect with their kids, since they're going to want to reconnect with her more than they will with them.
Also, thank you to the amazing dancingdeaky (I've said this a million times, but every time I see your username, I smile) for your review! I was also a huge drama kid up until my junior year when the program was cut from my school, right when I could start auditioning for lead parts (our system was weird). I've also seen Heather a million times, it's one of my all time favorite movies! I've never seen the musical though, but I've watched the performance on YouTube and know most of the songs by heart!
Constructive Criticism is Welcomed!
Please Review!
Bye- Nat
