Mercedes sat on her bed staring out the window, Sam had dropped her off at home and while she wanted him with her she needed to spend some time alone. What happened at his parents house, it crushed her. It made her feel so unimportant and so hurt. She would get over it she knew but for now she needed her space. She had kissed Sam and promised to see him tomorrow but for now she sat on her bed, heart breaking at how rude Mary was to her, how much Sam's family seemed to hate her.
As Mercedes was in deep thought her phone rang and it was the one person she truly didn't want to talk to. Shane. She hadn't had the chance to tell him what was happening and it broke her heart to have to hurt him. But she had to be honest.
"Hello?"
Shane was relieved when Mercedes picked up the phone. He hadn't heard from her since he left her place the other night, and he wanted to make sure she was okay. He didn't like how she was treated at the dinner, and he felt somewhat responsible since he was the one that insisted that they dined with the Evans. He thought they were all on good terms, but that dinner proved otherwise.
"Hey pretty lady. I was just calling to see how you're holding up, and if you want some company even if it's just to sit on the couch, eating ice cream, and watching a rom-com." He said that with a slight chuckle, hoping to put a smile on her face.
Her eyes widened as he started talking, she didn't mean to forget him, so much went down and it caught her by surprise. "Shane, hey. I meant to call you. I think we should talk." She hated those words so much, and yet now she is using them.
'I think we should talk' The five words no guy wants to hear from the person he is interested in. "Uh, Oh." He said jokingly, though he could tell there was nothing to joke about, but he can at least make it a pleasant conversation for her. "Is something wrong?"
Mercedes sighed. "Uh yeah something is wrong… I am a horrible person. I really like you Shane. More than I thought I would but...I have to be honest. I can't lie to you. I am... I am, am falling in love with Sam. And We have an actual chance to be together. I never wanted to hurt you. I am so sorry."
It hurt hearing that, but he knew he couldn't compete with Sam. He was rich, and could offer Mercedes anything she wanted. He knew that wouldn't matter to Mercedes, but he couldn't help being a bit envious. "You're not a horrible person at all. Your heart wants what it wants, I would be a fool to tell you to ignore your heart." Though he was hurting and disappointed, he just wanted her happy, even if her happiness lies with Sam Evans.
Mercedes frowned, biting her bottom lip, this was such a mess, she never meant to hurt him. Tears fell and she closed her eyes quickly. "You are so much more than I deserve, and the fact I hurt you, I am truly sorry, but I had to be honest." She sighed. "And it might not even work." She said softly. "You deserve the world and I hope you find happiness." And she meant it, he was a great guy, he deserves it all.
He knew she meant well, but he honestly didn't need her to reassure him. He knew he was a good dude, but nice guys always seem to finish last. She wasn't his first heartbreak, so he didn't know why it hurt more than the other times. He heard it all before. It's not you, it's me. He felt that if more than two women have told him that, then it was obviously something he wasn't doing right. "Mercedes, it's fine. When we went out a few times, and though I had a great time being with you, you shouldn't have to force yourself or pretend. I just hope you know that you will always have a friend in me. Even if it's just to vent." And he meant that. It would take time getting over her, but he knew his feelings would eventually subside.
She sighed with a nod, not that he could see her. "Thanks for being so understanding Shane. I really mean that and I really appreciate your friendship. But I want to be clear I wasn't pretending when I was with you. Had you told me sooner that you wanted to date, if it was you before Sam, he wouldn't have stood a chance. I need you to know that. But I know I am the last person you want to talk to so I will let you go. Don't be a stranger Shane." She said before hanging up. She let off a deep sigh and fell back on her bed, tears falling. How could being in love hurt so bad and so many people.
Quinn left the Evans home, more upset then when she first arrived. How dare Sam show up, showing Mercedes off like she belonged on his arm! She slammed her hand against the steering wheel angrily before she started the car. After everything she put up with! She even told him that he could have Mercedes as his mistress but no that wasn't good enough, no she had to have Sam all to herself. She really thought dropping the pregnancy bomb would make Sam come running back with diamonds and apologizes but it didn't.
Pulling into the familiar driveway, she sat in the car for a moment, she needed to pull herself together, needed to figure out her next step. Sam and Mercedes hadn't heard the last of her. Getting out of the car she walked up to the impressive home and knocked on the door. If there was one person who could help her make sense of all this and help her plot out her future it was Jane.
Jane was looking through her cabinets, getting her grocery list ready for food shopping tomorrow. She hated any kind of shopping, so she always made sure she knew exactly what she was getting so she could get in and out. As she was searching the pantry, she heard a knock at the door. She put her pen and paper down, before answering it. A smile spread on her face when she saw Quinn, but that smile quickly faded when she saw the distressed look on her face.
"Oh, Quinn." She gave her friend a hug because she looked like she needed one. "Come in."
Quinn hugged Jane tightly, and started to cry, damn hormones. "Oh Jane, he left me he actually let me then showed up with her! Like I was nothing." She pulled any wiping her eyes. "I have put my time, my effort, my life into this relationship and he just… left me."
Jane tried to make sense of what Quinn was saying, but it was damn near impossible because she was talking so fast and crying. So she just hugged her tighter. "Quinn, whatever it is, we will get through it." Jane leads Quinn to her sofa in the living room, and just holds her. "It'll be alright. Just relax and when you calm, you can tell me what happened because I didn't get any of that."
Quinn hadn't even realized that they were sitting but she was happy for it, since her feet would have given out. She wiped her eyes and tried to calm herself down. She needed to keep her wits about her. "Sam left me for Mercedes. We went out last night and he was fine. But we ran into Mercedes and her date at the restaurant and there was a lot of drama and he never came home…" She looked at Jane. "I went to his parents this morning but Sam wasn't there. Then he just shows up with Mercedes and says they are gonna be together."
Of course. Another Sam problem. Jane didn't really like Sam. And the reason was because of Quinn. Quinn deserves someone who would love her whole heartedly and not just as a trophy wife. Quinn is so much smarter than that. She is brilliant and should be the kick ass lawyer that she was destined to be. But of course, she didn't go to law school, because she had to prepare to be Mrs. Sam Evans, and Jane hated that. Of course she didn't really tell Quinn about it because she didn't want to see the smile vanish from her face, and it seemed like Sam was making her happy.
"I can't imagine how painful that is for you. And I'm so sorry you had to put up with that." Jane comforted Quinn by rubbing her back gently. "So, now what?"
Quinn could tell Jane wasn't as upset about this as she was. Sam was not high on Jane's people to care about and she knew that. But Sam was the love of Quinn's life and she needed him. When Jane asked what now? Quinn didn't know, she had no idea. "Jane, Jane he can't leave me! I cant raise this baby by myself." She said before she could stop herself.
"Baby?" Jane had to be sure she wasn't hearing things. "Quinn, are you pregnant?"
Quinn looked down to her hands. She nodded slowly, "I am...and before you ask Sam is the father. Even though he has the nerve not to believe me. Like I was the one who cheated on him!" She wiped her eyes. "What am I supposed to do."
"What do you mean what are you supposed to do?" Jane didn't like exploding on Quinn, but enough was enough. It was time for some tough love.
"You are Quinn Fabray. The brilliant, graduated at the top of her class Quinn Fabray, Got into Harvard Law, Quinn Fabray. What you are going to do is stop feeling sorry for yourself and chasing after a man who doesn't deserve you." Jane stood up and began pacing, something she only does when she is too upset to stand still.
"It's time to put on your big girl panties and leave Sam alone. You deserve someone who is going to love you for you and not try to make you something you're not. You weren't made to just sit around and be some trophy wife Quinn. You are so much more than that. I have sat mute while I watch the light drain out of you. And I'm not saying it's all Sam's fault, but why stay in an arrangement that makes you miserable?"
Quinn knew Jane was right, but she couldn't admit that right now. "I am pregnant, there is a child involved. Yes, maybe at one point I was Quinn Fabray all that, but right now I just want my fiance back and I want us to be a family. This is my chance! My chance to be the family I always wanted. You know the house I grew up in, my child deserves to be with its mother and father. I can't turn away from that!"
Jane pinched the bridge of her nose. "You told that man that you were pregnant, and where is he Quinn? He isn't by your side." It pained Jane to hurt her friend, but what kind of friend would she be if she just watched Quinn crash and burn? "Being with a man, just because he is the father of your child, doesn't guarantee a happy life. Your baby deserves the best life possible, and I'm afraid that they won't get it if you chase after Sam." She sat back down and took Quinn's hand in hers. "If he doesn't want to be a part of your life or that baby, that's his loss. Just start a brand new life, you'll be more happier that way. I don't remember the last time I saw you genuinely smile. You caught Sam about to cheat on you, and you didn't do anything but accept his lame excuse and proposal. You've become someone unrecognizable all for a man who can't love you the way you deserve." Jane couldn't help the tears that filled her eyes.
"It's because of Mercedes! We were happy Jane! You saw us just last week at dinner! We were happy and I was getting everything I ever wanted!" Quinn couldn't open herself up to hear what Jane was saying, not until she was certain she couldn't get Sam back. "His parents have a plan. They are gonna take everything from Sam and then offer Mercedes 8 Million instead of the 5 they offered her this morning to leave Sam. He will have nothing and Mercedes will not want to see him so down in the gutter. She won't want him when he is broke and this is a win win, she gets money I get Sam. His mom said its foolproof. I will have my happiness. I just have to be patient and I can be… I can." She was sure Mary would come through for her.
To Jane, Quinn was talking crazy. "Mary offered Mercedes 5 million and she didn't take it, what makes you think she will take the 8 million?" This hit so close to home for Jane. Mike's parents didn't offer her money, but they didn't like Jane and made it difficult for them because they wanted Mike with an Asian woman, and not a black one. They eventually came around, but Jane remembered how unpleasant the whole experience was. And though she doesn't know Mercedes, and doesn't really care for her, Mercedes is a black woman being railroaded by white people. It didn't sit right with her. But of course Quinn wouldn't see it that way.
"Do you really want Sam to be with you as a last resort? Do you think he'll give you his all knowing he is being forced to be with you? He will end up hating you and resenting you Quinn. Why do you need Sam so bad? You're rich, you have your own fortune. What can he give you that you can't get for yourself? And don't say love, because that's not how you treat the people who you love. Sam is a liar and a cheat, and you know, I feel sorry for Mercedes because if he could treat the woman who he has known since yall were kids like that, there what's stopping him from treating her like that? You dodge a bullet and you just need to go get your life back."
Quinn looked at Jane. "This is my birthright, this is what I was bred for my whole life. I knew from the time I was 8 that I was going to be Mrs. Sam Evans. She will realize that Sam is like most men and that the money will set her and her family up better than Sam ever could. He was mines Jane! He was mine first and he will be mine. That's all I need to know. I love you and I just need your support. I am about to go to war and I need strong Allies." She wiped her eyes and sat up. It wasn't that she didn't hear Jane, she just didn't "hear" her. "Now the school the Twins and her siblings go too. You know the Headmaster correct? I need you to have him take them off of scholarship...or at least set up a meeting for me to do so."
Jane gave Quinn an incredulous look. "Okay, I'm not going to sabotage innocent children and their education. That's not happening. You're going to be a mother soon Quinn, so I suggest before you do anything to Mercedes and her siblings, that you think about how you would feel if someone did that to your child."
Jane stood up and stretched. Quinn wasn't listening to her and she knew that Quinn will do what Quinn does best. Self sabotage and then come to Jane for help fixing her mess. It's a vicious cycle and the only reason Jane is still friends with Quinn is because of how Quinn was before her and Sam became official. Jane loves her and knows how loyal Quinn could be. She just wished that she would listen every once and awhile
"I have to do what I have to do Jane. How will she take the money if she doesn't need it? I was hoping to leave Mary out of it but if I have to I know she will gladly put the screws to him if she has too. I am thinking about my child Jane. About our future with their dad. Nothing else matters. Mary said this is what we have to do to make sure that Sam comes to his senses."
"Oh my god, stop listening to Mary!" Jane couldn't help but scream at Quinn. "That woman is just going to drag you down with her as soon as you don't act the way she wants or something. That family is crazy and you need to distance yourself from them."
Quinn stood shaking her head, "Mary has been nothing but great to me this whole time. She has helped me and guided me, been more of a mother than my own! And she wants me to be with Sam." She ran her hands through her hair. "I love Sam and we will be together. We will."
Jane signed knowing that there was nothing to say to Quinn. So she left alone. Sometimes a person has to hit rock bottom before they get themselves together. "Listen, today has been emotionally draining for you, so why don't you stay in the guest room for tonight. We can have a girl's night, just us two. We can use the basement, and kick Mike out if you want." She said the last bit with a tiny smile. I'll even cook dinner. When's the last time you had a home cook meal?"
Quinn wanted to leave but she couldn't go back to Sam's place. Not like this not when he was all over Mercedes. Maybe her staying away will show him something. She nodded. "I think a girl's night is just what I need. And to be honest. I am starving. I haven't really eaten today."
Jane smiled at Quinn and led her to the kitchen. Nothing was really resolved, but Jane was just going to chuck it up as Quinn hormones. She really hopes that Quinn comes to her senses about Sam and Mercedes and just worries about the new life growing inside of her. She feels that she couldn't have been more supportive, but it's hard to support a friend's destructive behavior.
Since he didn't want to risk the chance of running into Quinn, Sam spent the night in a hotel. He could have gone to Blaine's, but he needed some time to process everything. He had to figure out what to do about his family. They needed to respect his choices regardless of how they felt about them. And he also had to reflect on being a father soon. He didn't want to have a family with Quinn, but the baby is here, and he had to figure out how to be the best father to his child, while having a cordial relationship with Quinn.
And then there was Mercedes, who took the brunt of the criticism from his family. She didn't deserve any of it. She had been amazing and classy, but he wished his parents would just back off of her. Maybe it's on him for not doing enough, but he honestly doesn't know what to do, but he needed to think of something fast because he isn't going to stand for Mercedes being disrespected like that.
After a restless night, Sam heads to the office to try and get his mind off of things and get some work done. He walks into the lobby, and nods to the security guards before making his way to the elevator.
Shane was hurt that Mercedes chose Sam, but in reality all he wanted was her happiness. She deserved the best and if she thought that was Sam, he would respect it. He was prepared to push his feelings aside when Sam arrived, to let bygones be bygones, but when Mary Evans approached him telling him that they let Sam go, and he was no longer allowed access to his office, he had to admit, a part of him felt vindicated for the wrong of Sam taking his girl. So when he saw Sam that morning he had to stop himself from showing how much he enjoyed what he was about to do. "Mr. Evans I am sorry but I am not allowed to let you up. As of right now your privileges have been revoked and you are no longer an employee here. I need your key card."
Sam stared at Shane wondering if he was just imagining things. "My key card? Is this some type of joke?" Sam straightened up, and attempted to move around Shane. "Shane, I don't have time for the jokes today, I have a few meetings lined up. So if you'll excuse me."
Shane stood tall, blocking Sam at every turn. "I am sorry ." So not sorry, he thought. "But as off 7am this morning, your card was deactivated. I can not and will not let you pass. Now if you want I can call upstairs see if Mrs. Evans can come down here but that is the best I can do." His hands crossed over his chest as he looked at Sam.
This couldn't be happening right now. He didn't want to have it out with Shane, but he would if he had to. He took a step closer to him, and had to look up since Shane had about a few inches on him. "Last time I checked, I was the CEO of Evans Corp. Mary and Dwight Evans don't call the shots here. So now if you'll move out of my way, I'll forget this little incident and your job will be saved."
Shane had to stop himself from laughing at Sam's attempt at being hard. "Last I checked, Sir, they were both still on the board with majority shares in the company, which means they still call the shots. Sir. From what I was told there was an emergency meeting in which you were let go of your position. Or as far as I heard. As I said I can get Mrs. Evans down here and she can tell you more about the situation, but I am not going to let you pass. Sir. So I advise you to stop trying."
Sam took a step back and ran his hand through his hair out of frustration. "Get Mrs Evans down here." Sam didn't miss the smug look on Shane's face and wondered if Mercedes talked to him or something.
Shane nodded and looked past Sam at Lauren, the other security guard there today. She stood in front of Sam as Shane went to call Mary down. Getting the call that Sam was there made Mary smile. Her plan was about to fall into place and soon Sam would come to his senses and take Quinn back, and the foolishness with Mercedes would be over. She looked at her husband. "He is here and he would like to speak to us. Let's put this whole situation to bed shall we?"
Sam didn't think his parents would stoop this low, but here they were. He narrowed his eyes at Mary and Dwight as they stood in front of him, both wearing smug looks. He took a deep breath. He wasn't putting up with this. "So, this is what it comes down to? You taking my job, my birthright away from me? This is low even for you. You guys preach about how family is everything, but it seems to only be everything when it benefits you."
Mary shook her head. "Samuel Dwight Evans if you can not see we are doing this for you then it is clear we have failed you. You are choosing some woman over your family! Over your birthright! What kind of example are you setting for your siblings? What message are you sending to your staff? Sam this is for the best and this is your choice! You can head right up to your office and its business as usual, then go home to Quinn and talk about your future. Or you can walk out that door with nothing, and believe me when I say you will have nothing Sam."
Dwight stepped closer to him. "Sam I know you think you are falling in love Mercedes, but I really believe its just an infatuation due to wedding jitters. It happens, you just have to get past it."
There were so many things that Sam could say, but why? It wouldn't change his parents opinion on the matter. They thought Mercedes was just a phase, and he was tired of defending his relationship choices. He wasn't a kid anymore. It was time to stand on his own two feet.
He went into his pockets, and took out his office I.D. badge and slammed it on the security desk, not caring that everyone was just staring at them. "I'm walking out the door, but I'm not with nothing. I am going to pursue my feelings for a beautiful woman. Beautiful on the inside and out. And I know with her by myself, I'll feel like the richest man on the planet, even if my bank account won't reflect that. I'm done."
And with that, he turned and walked out of the building. He wasn't going to be what his parents wanted him to be anymore. He was going to be his own man and love who he wants to love.
Sam was beyond pissed. He knew his parents were stubborn, you didn't get where they did by playing nice. But he figured that they cared about his happiness more than the family's reputation. And if people didn't accept Mercedes, he didn't want to be around them. He was driving around aimlessly, not knowing where to go. He wanted to give Mercedes space, and he didn't want to risk running into Quinn, by going back to their place, or by going by Mike. There was only one place that was relatively safe for him to hide out until he figured what to do next.
Blaine.
Blaine was his closest friend and was always real with him. He could talk to Blaine about anything, and could always crash at his place. He just hoped he wasn't intruding on an intimate moment with one of his many flings. Sam chuckled at thought. Blaine was the definition of a player and he was so unapologetic about it. Sam loved giving him a hard time about his many, many men.
Parking his car, Sam walked up to Blaine's door and rang the bell. Normally he would use the spare key, but Sam didn't want to walk in on him having sex on the kitchen counters again if he wasn't alone. That incident alone took time for Sam to be able to look Blaine in the eye.
Kurt had been sitting on the sofa in Blaine's place for the last half hour trying to console his best friend. The kids were with Santana and Brittany and he hadn't told anyone but Mercedes he was even seeing anyone. He just wasn't ready for the world to know he had fallen in love. Hearing his sobbing best friend he sighed. "Mercy, if they don't like you then screw them. Sam is the only one who matters. He said he didn't care and walked away from his family right?"
Mercedes wiped her eyes laying on her bed as she spoke. "He left but, Kurt, Quinn is pregnant and I care about Sam so much, I am falling in love with him, hell I have probably landed and am hopelessly in love with him but I can't admit it. Not until I know his parents won't convince him to walk away from me."
"Mercedes, Sam is a grown ass man, he can handle his parents sweetie."
"He can't! Not really! If you would have seen his face while they were talking to him...I never thought they would turn on me. And now I don't know what to do."
Kurt sighed. "Have you given any thought to the job offer? Wasn't that place gonna make you projects manager? Give you a six figure salary plus benefits?"
"Yeah and they are also rivals of the Evans."
"Mercy me I know you are loyal. I love that about you, but honey if the Evans don't give a damn about you, you don't give a damn about them. Go for it,take care of your family and have faith in what you and Sam have."
Someone rang the doorbell and he sighed. "Let me get the door, its probably dinner, I am gonna call you right back, B is in the shower.."
"You and I both know who B is, why are you still using that obvious and ridiculous name for him?"
"Cause he doesn't know you figured it out now bye call you back love you." Kurt hung up and opened the door. "How much do I owe-" he stopped seeing Sam standing in front of him. "You aren't delivering our Pad Thai…"
Sam looked confused for a bit. "And you're not Blaine." The last Sam saw, Blaine and Kurt may have talked once. How did that end up with Kurt over at Blaine's house waiting for dinner? "Um, is Blaine home?"
Kurt moved to the side letting Sam in. "Yeah he's in the shower… Are you okay?" He closed the door and leaned against it. "I can tell Blaine you are here unless you wanna go on up, he should be done now."
"Yea, I'm okay. Had a long day and thought to unwind with Blaine, but if you two are busy, I'll just catch up with him some other time." Sam didn't want to dump his problems on Blaine when it looked like he was on a date?
Kurt shook his head. "No its fine I am sure you need to talk and I know that Blaine wouldn't want me sending you away without making sure you were okay." He wanted to let him know he knew what was going on but it wasn't his place. It was up to Sam if he wanted anyone to know. And it was up to him to protect Mercedes in case things went bad.
"Oh, okay… so you and Blaine are an item now?" Sam didn't want to assume anything. He knew what kind of playboy Blaine was and he didn't want him to doing that to Kurt since he was Mercedes best friend and all.
Kurt ran his hand through his hair. "I will let you and Blaine talk about that one." Kurt said seeing Blaine walk down the stairs. "I am gonna call my best friend back, if you don't want me to tell her you are here I won't."
Sam gave Blaine a smile that didn't reach his eyes, before turning back to Kurt. "Oh, um… I was going to call her later. I didn't want to worry her, but I don't mind her knowing or anything." Sam ran his hand through his hair, a habit he does every time he feels like spiraling.
Kurt nodded and tapped his shoulder as he walked out the room. Blaine looked at Sam and crossed his hands over his chest. "So this doesn't look good. Mike called me a bit ago so I expected you to reach out."
He moved to give Sam a hug, he seemed to really need it. "Come one and tell me what's going on?"
Sam returned the hug, before following Blaine to his living room. Sam sat on the sofa, not knowing where to start. He didn't want to ruin Blaine's night since he had company. "Long story short, my parents are basically disowning me unless I break up with Mercedes." Sam wasn't even sure if he told Blaine about the whole Mercedes thing. "Quinn is pregnant. And this morning, I went to Evans Corp, and my parents just took it from me. I don't work there anymore." Sam still couldn't believe all of this happened in a span of two days. "I just need a place to crash for a bit until I figure out what's my next move."
Blaine sat back looking at Sam as he listened to them. He didn't want to say anything until he got the whole story and once he did, he was unsure of what he was supposed to say. "Okay so you broke up with Quinn, admitted to your family you wanted to be with Mercedes and now Quinn is pregnant and you lost your job." He whistles. "What a fine mess this is."
Standing he walked over to his bar and grabbed two glasses, pouring scotch in them and handing one to Sam. "Okay, first thing that comes to mind is, if you lost everything to be with Mercedes, why are you here and not with her?"
That was a good question. Normally, he would want to go to her, but he just couldn't. "She took a lot of crap from my mother. They basically called her a gold digger and tried to bribe her with money to leave me alone. I feel kind of embarrassed about the whole situation. Plus, I'm not sure where we stand. Are we dating? Or are we just figuring things out?" The more Sam talked, the more confused he got. "What if she doesn't want to be with me after all of this? I can't take another loss."
Blaine blew air from his lips sitting up and placing his glass on the coaster in front of him. "I love you Sam, you are my best friend and if you are saying that you care about Mercedes to give up everything then I am here for you but… that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. She had to have known what she was getting into when she decided to stay with you, I may not know what your relationship is but I know she cares for you. And if your parents bribed her and she didn't take the money, I highly doubt she is walking away from you."
Sam knew Blaine was right. Mercedes didn't take the bribe so she didn't care about Sam's finances. Sam knew that was his own insecurities that he was probably projecting on her. "I guess, I'm just trying to figure out how to stand on my own two feet. How to be successful without my parents' crutch. How to be in a relationship with Mercedes, when my family is so set against her." He knew he probably should be having this conversation with Mercedes, but he wanted to give her some space to figure out what she wanted to do.
Blaine sighed and grabbed his drink. "Yeah well I am not the right person for that conversation. I have never been in a relationship long enough to know what you and Quinn had or what you and Mercedes have. But if Mercedes was worth giving everything up for, if she is worth leaving your child to be born without his parents being together, then give her a little bit of credit and call her. Now."
She was worth that and more to him, but he didn't know why. He didn't know her that long but she absolutely stole his heart. "Wait, you want me to call her now? Don't you think she needs a few weeks by herself to see if she really wants this?"
"Few WEEKS!" Kurt said before revealing he was eavesdropping on them. "I am sorry, I just…" Kurt stepped closer to them. "You will be the biggest fool in this world if you wait a few damn weeks to talk to her."
Blaine laughed shaking his head, "Should have known you were listening. But I do agree with him Sam, you wait too long and she will think you chose to be with Quinn."
Sam eyed both Kurt and Blaine for a moment before speaking. "I'm sorry, but are you two an actual couple?"
Kurt folded his arms. "No I am sorry but are you trying to lose the best thing that has ever happened to any man lucky enough to win the heart of Mercedes Jones."
Blaine smirked. "And that is why I love you Kurt." He said before realizing what he said. He looked at Sam. "Pretty sure he's right. Now call her."
Obviously they weren't going to answer his question, but hearing Blaine tell Kurt he loved him was an outer body experience. He would be sure to ask Blaine about all of this when his life wasn't falling apart.
"What do I even say to her? She hasn't called me either, so maybe she needs time. I don't want to burder her. She has her siblings to worry about."
"Yeah because it was her family who cut her off right? Sam don't be stupid you and I both know you are very smart. You need to call her on this one."
Sam was just going to leave it at that, but he did want to hear her voice. He missed her, and maybe she could put some things into perspective. "Fine." He takes out his phone and calls her. Waiting for her to answer was the longest ten seconds.
Mercedes sat in her car, she had no idea what she was going to do. She spent the morning in a Meeting with Barnes and Wade and she left there even more confused than she was walking in. She just promised to hear them out but what they offered. She sighed looking at her phone and bit her bottom lip as she answered and put the phone on speaker. "Hello.?"
Sam didn't even realize he was holding his breath until he heard her speak. "Hey." Sam didn't know why he felt awkward. He didn't know what to say to her, but hearing her voice did seem to comfort him a bit. "How are you?"
Mercedes chewed her bottom lip nervously until she heard his voice. "Hi, I heard what happened at the office, I wanted to call but that on top of everything. I just figured you needed some time. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. I'm just at Blaine's place for right now. I'll probably book a hotel room or something later. Just trying to figure out my next step. But enough about my pity party. How are you feeling after everything that happened last night at my parent's place?"
Mercedes sighed. "You shouldn't have to stay at a hotel Sam. Look, the kids are with San and Britt for the night. Come over. We should probably talk." She realized that could sound ominous and Sam didn't need that stress. "Not about us but about everything that happened. Alot happened today for me too."
Sam knew she was right. Talking on the phone isn't the best. They needed to talk face to face, plus he just wanted an excuse to see her. "Are you home now?"
She sighed heavily. "On my way there. I am about 15 minutes away."
"Okay, then I'll meet you there." He ends the call and stands up. "Well, I guess you guys were right. I'm going to head over there and we'll figure everything out I guess. But don't think I'm going to forget to grill you about this new relationship, and the fact that you told Kurt you love him." He said teasing Blaine.
"I didn't!" Blaine defended and looked to Kurt who smiled. "Yeah you did!" Blaine sat back in disbelief as Sam left. Damn, he was in love.
